Issos Point to the Tayo - October 2023

Northwest of Agios Georgios Argyrades are Issos Beach and Dunes. The beach is a very popular destination, but the dunes are also interesting with their petrified sand formations and unique flora and fauna.
The dunes are boarded by Agios Georgios from the Southeast, Lake Korission from the North, Chalikounas Beach to the Northwest and the Ionian Sea splashes onto Issos Beach from the South.
It is about 3.5 km long and 700 meters at its widest point with a total area of about 169 hectares.
It is part of the Limnothalassa Korission Natura 2000 protected area on Corfu (natura2000.eea.europa.eu/Natu.... It is quite arid and home to forest of Juniperus phoenicea or cedar trees (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniper....
In this video I fly my drone from Issos Point to the inlet or “Tayo” of Lake Korrision. At the Tayo there is a small house that is used by the men who fish and manage the lake. I like this video for it shows the cliffs of the dunes along the cedar forest. I have been boating by these cliffs the last several years on my way to work on Chalikounas Beach at Kite Club Corfu (kite-club-corfu.com).
