Even though it wasn't the desired ending, it was very consistent with the construction of the characters. Each one had their own ethics and beliefs. And it culminated in the law, above all.
We can't forget that, although faithful to his beliefs, justifying the practice of euthanasia, Kan was not only deceitful, but also manipulated Tew on many occasions. For love, of course. But how legitimate and forgivable is this? Furthermore, he really did murder Boss. In this case, it was not about belief but about defending your interests. I haven't read the novel and I don't know if this point is clear, but it's possible that the investigation didn't gather enough evidence to lead him to the death penalty or life imprisonment. That's why he's released in 8 years. And Tew was there, waiting for him. I think it was a great end to a great series. I hope the audience makes the necessary reflection on the subject.

I know this is the best ending we could have but dam*****🥹🥹🥹🥹🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 My heart is broken into pieces💔💔💔💔💔 I hope they could make a spin-off for 8 years later after Kan is released from jail, Tew comes to pick him up and they both start over together. Sadly that in the book, even after Kan’s incident, Euthanasia is still illegal in Thailand. Nothing change.
