“And when you teach in the hood and sleep in the hood, you must tell students of places they can dream of to escape this nightmare,” this poem is dope & true. I love it.
"My inner herbalist wants to take advantage of his dumb ass prices, but the math teacher in me is pissed, because he should be better with his measurements" "The only difference between a counselor and a customer is the time of day". Both truthful and powerful. Especially when she says "Keeping money on their books because we don't get money for books". Having been born and raised in the hood, and having gone to schools in the hood, I can attest to the truthfulness of this statement. In 1996, we staged a walkout at my school, to try to get books that were more recent than 1985 (seriously, my history and English books were published in 1985 and the newest book we had, biology, had been published in 1991). The books were not only old, but in horrible condition and we weren't even allowed to take them home. It was insane.
