I used to live a block and a half away from lakeside growing up and the cinematography here really captures every bit of what made this place magical for me every summer as a kid. I'm so scared that they may not financially be able to survive until 2021 or 2022 because of COVID
Thanks a lot, I'm glad that I could help recapture some of those memories! I agree, I really hope that the park is able to bounce back following this summer.
Lakeside is a amazing park! I really hope this park can become how it was in the late 70 to early 80s again. They could really start with little this to make the park better like fixing/lighting up the tower again. The tower was one of my favorite things about lakeside when it was lit up. It was always there in every photo with bright colors and everything it looked amazing. Another thing they could do is destroy or rebuild the race track. I know there was a accident that's why it closed. But they should really do something with that land like build a water park or something and not have a rotting speed way that's also there bone yard. They could also paint there rides and buildings replace more lights and that would already make the park much better. I hope the park is starting to bounce back and I really hope the owner will now being willingly open to excepting donos to help the park. Also this park has a lot of wasted space like the ball rooms inside the tower and more.
I would love to see all of those things happen as well! Lakeside already has a distinct charm that most modern parks can’t obtain. Touching up the property would seriously do wonders. But given how content they seem with the status quo, I can’t see that happening for a while. But finally opening the Zyklon coaster and reopening the refurbished Roll-O-Plane late last season is a very good start.
A Gem of a classic American amusement park before "Theme" parks took over that venue in the 1970's. While "biggest/fastest/loudest/flashiest" seems to distract us from the satisfying basics of fun and entertainment when it comes to amusement parks today, Lakeside delivers in the fact it has retained most of its original features that provide classic entertainment in glorious color and shapes. Don't judge this book on its somewhat tattered cover once inside. Lakeside is rich in entertainment, nostalgia, and excitement appeal. A family owned enterprise, that is all about providing fun and thrills, because, the owners are passionate about owning a amusement park that provides people a place to escape life's routines, and have a good time having fun. Good for them, and us....still today 12/28/2019.
Very few parks these days really have those classic down-to-earth vibes like Lakeside does. It's an entirely different feel from the big corporate parks for sure.
I have a question about something that happend to me at this park. I went on the kiddie coaster and went on the back row and the seat leather thing was not screwed in or something and i could see the track and move the seat. So idk if the ride was built without screws there. Or something with maintenance is happening. I would love to hear your thoughts on what it could be.
I know that with some parks, there could be some cosmetic wear that looks sketchy but is totally safe. But I can’t be sure with Lakeside not knowing their maintenance protocols.
6:30 To 6:38 just Feel so unreal. Like Lakeside Looks like not your average park that place looks Like something out of Dream. Your Videos are Also really Great you need more subs
Thanks a lot! The story I heard is that a journalist took some unflattering photos of the park and wrote a scathing bad-faith review of the park, and ever since photography has been prohibited. Which is a shame since the park really is something special once the lights come on.
Elitch Gardens is only Classic in the fact that the former version of the park was. Trister is complete Junk vrs. mr. Twister and even Knobel’s version smokes both. This crummy incarnation was nothing but a holding place until they could redevelop the property. In a few years, Lakeside will be the only game in town, and hopefully people will realize just what a gem of a park it is.
Yeah, I have to agree it was kind of a stretch calling EG "classic." There's a lot of history behind the stories of the two Denver parks, but Lakeside undoubtedly retained their charm the most.
Thanks a lot! Though I should probably say that I have no clue if I'm actually pronouncing "Vettel" correctly, that's just how I presumed it was pronounced lol.
Love this video awesome job! My boyfriend is going to be doing college in Denver so it’s nice to see these charming areas to go to :) I live in Las Vegas and saw you also posted a video on that, looking forward to watch that now!
Thanks a lot! Denver’s a pretty fun city with a lot of nice areas (and a beautiful mountain backdrop). Amidst it all, it’s great having the classic theme park to escape to as well!
Great video but it's a shame the main tower wasn't lit up . I call Lakeside the Knoebel's of the west . I was was only there twice in the 80's & 90's and loved the place especially at night . It's hard to believe that with all the people in the Denver area the park seems to be hanging on by a thread year after year . I would suggest they come up with a Knoebels like maintenance program to preserve all those nostalgic rides and attractions .
Thanks! From what I’ve been told, the tower lights got damaged in a hail storm and the park has been unable to repair it. The park has so much potential to be up to Knoebels level, they’re collection of classic rides is one of the best out there. I definitely hope they’re able to bounce back this year.
You are welcome to use the footage. While I had no intention of ever riding Blue Streak again, I'm kind of going to miss how messed up that coaster was.
I used to work there as an employee back in the '90s and yes the park was beautiful day or night so I know I loved it at night cuz I have to work till the park closes at 11:00 p.m. he's worked with Rhoda her daughter Brenda and a lot of good employees I used to know way back then I miss them now because I live here in Nashville Tennessee so the video was fantastic the final season was either 1998 or 1999 many years ago
Thanks a lot! And thanks for sharing your story. It's a very unique and pretty park, and I love how it leaves so many different impressions on different people.
i wonder why the cyclone runs its red cart for ACE Night at lakeside but normally is the blue cart i rid it that year and it was the blue cart why do they run red for Ace Night at lakeside?
I've actually only been to the park during ACE events, so I hadn't noticed. That is interesting to hear. I wonder if they have a train rotation schedule throughout the year. Blue train was running at ACE Preservation Con this year.
I actually went to Lakeside two Sundays ago. I popped in really quick to ride the Zyklon and the Roll-O-Plane (as well as Loop-O-Plane and Wild Chipmunk). I didn’t take any video as it was just a quick unplanned visit since I was in the area.
Apart from my fantasy of them getting the complete Eyerly Plane series, I think the only major omission in their lineup is a good old-fashioned dark ride. Otherwise, I think they're actually pretty set on the classic rides they have.
Your cinematography is top notch!! This place is a real dump, and wasn't that great as far back as the early 1980's when I first visited it. This was the Poor Man's Elitch Gardens back then. But you captured its best angles.
Thanks a lot 😀! I have to agree the park is rough around the edges, but I think it has the potential to be something special. Their lineup of classic rides and the way the lights bring the park to life at night are very unique!

Yeah, I definitely think the park ought to focus on getting all of their current attractions open before buying a new one. Not sure what they'll name the new one, but I would be ok if they go with one of the classic names that typically goes with that style of coaster.
I love lakeside so much
I always have a blast whenever I get to visit Lakeside. I hope they're able to re-open this year.
While I have only been to Lakeside one time, I really enjoyed this park. Nighttime was my favorite time to be there. Great vlog as usual!
Thanks Sean! I love parks that have different vibes and feels between night and day. Looking forward to returning for Preservation Con next year.
