- Day THREE of dumpster diving during college move out! The dumpsters were FULL today and we found so many great items thrown away outside the dorms. We always find so many laundry hampers, storage bins, dorm room supplies, and of course sealed food.
We’re happy we were able to save so much today and look forward to sharing more of our college move out dives with you soon - next video up Friday!

Don't nervous Kelly..the worst they can do is ask you to leave. You guys are so polite and respectful that I can't see there being an issue. You always leave things neater than when you got there.😊

In my town it is trespassing if you go onto a property and go through a dumpster. I'm sure they don't want charges against them. Even though they keep it clean does not mean other people do. They could crack down on all the people doing this just to get rid of the ones that make a mess. Including them. So every time they do this in a parking lot they risk getting charged for trespassing.
I tried watching other DD College moveout and yours are hands down the best.
The first video I ever watched years ago was a college move out and I was hooked on the videos and how upbeat Kelly was in the videos.

Back in the late 80s I used to spend my summers cleaning and fixing the dorms of my college. I found so much there. Money, food, beer, books, art supplies, clothes, drugs, stereo equipment, furniture and a bicycle. It was amazing how much my fellow school mates threw away and how wasteful they were.
I realize it can be scary going dumpster diving around the college, thinking that someone is going to tell you to leave. I get it! But if you just stayed home and didn't go anywhere, all those nice things you usually find would go directly to the landfill and be covered in dirt, to rot for an eternity!! When you're feeling anxious next time, just think of the bigger purpose of keeping more things out of the landfill!! Kelly, you and Alex are playing a big part in this world by recycling, resaling, and donating. I salute both of you for doing a grand job at it as well!!! 🫡

Also, you’re not doing anything wrong! The worst that would happen is that someone would ask you to leave. They won’t prosecute you or anything. Don’t be nervous! You’re doing a really good thing.
Yes I thought about that yesterday - everything staying in the dumpster or me diving. I rescued a lot and now can give it away to people in need who are unhoused/low-income. they're always so appreciative. I give it to them directly at a Catholic Worker House nearby.

The item that you couldn’t identify was a shoe rack. You hang it on your closet door and put your shoes on it! I have several and it broke my heart when you left it in the dumpster! I love watching your videos! You guys are always laughing! Such a cute couple. I admit that I have checked the dumpster around move out here at the University of Virginia. I’ve found some awesome stuff. A desk, folding table, vases, stemware, fabric shower curtain, a cute folding chair like the one you put back in the dumpster, which I gave to my friend for her son, etc. I’m constantly amazed at how much good stuff these kids throw away! Good job guys! You’re my favorite channel.
I had a great uncle who was with the campus police at a college in Washington. He would take stuff out of the dumpsters and sometimes students would just ask him if he wanted any of their things before they threw it in. They also had trash shoots and he was in charge of swapping out the dumpsters at the bottom of it. He got all sorts of things just like you do.
This was in the 80's. He never sold anything, he would give everything away that he couldn't use. Nowadays it's easier to sell the things you find.
it never stops amazes me how much good usable stuff gets tossed in dumpsters. keep up the good work and yes you are making a difference.

The first video I ever watched from this channel was actually a college move out video and was hooked not only on the videos, snd Kelly has this upbeat attitude and friendlyness that makes people like her and want to watch her videos

You guys should check the elementary schools dumpster after school let’s put. Another diver I used to watch got tons of stuff when the teachers move out of their rooms.
Public schools throw out everything at the end of each year to the point it makes me angry…literally $300 digital pens that were never opened and they have the nerve to guilt trip parents into giving them more money for supplies and it’s not spent on supplies ….when they get millions every year and then waste it…then complain they don’t make enough…they make plenty!
@@w8what575 I am super happy that the teachers at my daughter's elementary would keep anything that was unopened or gently used. They had boxes for parents to put leftover supplies in to keep for the next school year. Also they would send home reminders to hang onto any good supplies to use next year.
I would think these people should invite you two to dumpster dive, you are so good for cleaning their messes.
It would be so much nicer if the schools would offer a spot that kids could drop off items that are still usable and the community could take what they want. It would be cheaper for the school, they wouldnt need all those dumpsters.
They do that at the university nearby where I dive - it's great to see!

Hi, I'm 74. We're near Chicago. I check 2 indoor dumpsters and other places where people leave free stuff. I just took a box of baby stuff and clothes to a local
charity. My craft and hobby stuff is all used or free. Styrofoam packing is good for making stamping tools. Tina, Al's wife

Not a belt rack but a shoe rack that hangs on a door. I have always done well on yard selling clothes. Two things I learned, keep it cheap like $2.OO a Wal-Mart sized bag and the most amazing thing is never fold the clothes. I always got my friends utility trailer and threw a tarp in the bottom and dumped all the clothes on them. I have had as many as twenty people surround that trailer and stay there digging as long as two hours.
Don't be afraid. They are people just like you and me. Talk to the students that will help. Keep on moving on.
I agree, even if the students can't figure out how to get their stuff home or to a new job, they might appreciate that you are saving it from the landfill.
The large white piece you past on, is for shoe storage. It hangs on the back of the door. Fun to see all of good stuff you find.
If anyone asks, say a bag got unintentionally thrown out in your process of moving that you’re looking for. ;)
The white rack with the loops at 28:50 is an over the door shoe rack! If you see it next time you go, you should definitely grab it! They're really handy.

Kelly you are so awesome for picking up all that trash on the ground that others left. Really like those two small carts you found; they’re pricey at the stores. These colleges & students are so wasteful; they could have a place that stuff could be donated for the new students coming in. Not everyone will have the $ to go buy all the stuff they need.
That white thing that was definitely some thing was a back-of-door shoe rack 🤣
So many of those back pillows! I got one of those when I started college with the idea I could sit in bed to study and be comfy, but nope. I was not comfy at all and my quality of studying was awful! I improved so much by sitting at a table with Mozart in my ears (Thank you, Wolfman, I aced so many exams because of you!)

My daughters live in a college town, and used to pick up the throw away, every year that college let out. They did not ever have a problem with anyone.

I told my partner about what you find and he was shocked, I might be able to convince him to check the college in our city....he's pretty much been against me dumpster diving, but he was intrigued with your finds

I understand why you're both nervous and I feel sad for both of you. I would ask maintenance if and when they stop you, to watch one of your videos. You clean up more of the messes that the students leave behind and you are providing as much sustainability as you can. I wish people would understand that. When I lived in London Ontario I noticed first the garbage, then clothing, and a few days later bigger items the last was always refridgerator foods and kitchen spices. So much is completely wasted and I'm so surprised that the Universities aren't passing the message along to donate or do curb alerts. In Toronto they have Swooping websites, theyreso cool people post good stuff on the curbs, they take photos wgen the put out their belongings or people just let others know. It's realky growing in T.O. and it's great anything worthwhile saved from a landfill is the right thing to do. Keep up the wonderful work you do, it does help our planet. All the best to you both.
