I was 13 when Complicated was released. Avril instantly became an idol of mine. What she's saying is true, we punk kids got picked on bad for being ourselves. I mean, some really dark, violating, judgmental bullshit was kind of our everyday experience with others. It was wrong and I for one am so glad kids experience that to a lesser degree now. It needs to end altogether, imo.
I was 14! I'm glad I found a comment where someone discovered her at the same & is almost the same age as me. I remember going to a my best friend's house party in the baggiest trousers around that time lol. I never really got much backlash for the way I dressed & I would paint my nails black, wear eyeliner, put thumb holes in my sleeves & safety pins in my clothes. It got me a little attention & some people would mention it, I guess, but I was lucky in that sense. I got piercings as soon as I left school at 16. I'm glad alt fashion became more mainstream & accepted, though. I remember when only subcultures would embrace piercings, tattoos, leather, spikes etc. but it became fashionable, trendy & popular in recent years. Now it's normal to see big pop stars like Justin Bieber & Rihanna sporting the same looks. Artists like Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Linkin Park, Blink 182, Geenday etc. really helped bring alternative subcultures & subgenres to the mainstream. They made spikey hair, converse, black nails, eyeliner, skateboards etc. more acceptable & even "cool."

When Avril talks about how things were different when she was coming out and things were physical, YES! I had every poster she ever made on my wall. I had every magazine she was in. I STILL have every album she’s every released on CD. I used to listen to her on my Walkman all day every day. She has been one of the biggest influences in my life. And her coming back and being the absolute power house she is what this world needs.
She has already released her 2019 album Head Above Water which you can check on her UA-cam channel and Spotify account which it is available in full. New Pop Punk single drops April/May 2021 with a Pop Punk album in the Summer of 2021. She's working with Blink182 drummer and bassist Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus respectively as well as Machine Gun Kelly,ModSun,Marshmello and producer John Feldmann.

Such a cool story. As a Canadian Female I’m super proud of her. At such a young age she knew who she wanted to be. I see that in my son and it makes me so proud and kind of leaves me in awe. It’s a special thing I think this generation is getting to have that others haven’t. Awesome to see. She was ahead of the curve. Way to go Avril.
Nice to see how she never fell into the mass partying and drug scene. Sign of real personal strength. It’s unfortunate, but true, that tragedy produces the best art. Strange that being happy, is less inspiring. She still such a natural beauty.

And I think she will be around for a lot longer because she is becoming much deeper ever since she went thru her health concerns and thinking that she wouldnt make it.
