  • Did you know 9 in 10 seniors are happy with their Medicare coverage? That’s the good news. The bad news is that Medicare doesn’t cover everything, and in fact, some benefits you’re accustomed to with private group health plans aren’t included in Part A and Part B.
    It’s important to comparison-shop your options before you choose your Medicare path. For some people, Original Medicare with Medigap and supplemental companion plans for vision, dental, and hearing make the most sense. For others, an all-in-one Medicare Advantage plan offers the most cost-effective coverage.
    Let's dive into the 6 things Medicare won't cover!

      It wasn't in my case.
      The years that I applied for obamacare, even though I had low income, they wanted to charge me high premium and with *_$6000 deductible_* (6 thousand, not 6 hundred). And that premium got higher year after year. I used to wonder how they can call it _"affordable"_ . I couldn't afford it.
      I didn't buy it and got penalty from IRS but it was much cheaper $95/y. Thank God, I was healthy and didn't have any health issue at the time.
      I remember my friend didn't believe $6000 deductible, I had to login and search for obamacare and show her on computer screen. She was surprised and said her insurance through her employer had much lower deductible.

You pay those things out of your own pocket. Homeowners insurance isn't for a running toilet, it's for when your house burns down. Here's a novel concept. Try setting aside money every month for routine medical expenses. Better yet, have a high deductible insurance plan so you can contribute tax free money to an HSA. It's mind boggling to me how uneducated people are about insurance and finances.

    In May of 2015, my 78 year old mother visited a doctor for pain in her back. The doctor had X-rays taken of her back and at the edge of one X-ray film he noticed a dark mass. He then ordered an MRI and found a tumor growing in one of her kidney. We rush her to see a doctor who specialized in kidney cancer and he was so alarmed by the size of the tumor he operated on her within 2 weeks (part of the time was spent to get clearance for surgery from her cardiologist) and it saved her life. What does this have to do with Medicare? Medicare denied payment for the MRI and declared it "an unnecessary procedure" and my family had to pay over $7,050 for it. It was the MRI that found and confirmed the tumor and ,yet, Medicare said it was unnecessary. If you are approaching retirement, do NOT make the mistake in assuming Medicare pays for everything. In fact, the federal government conveniently don't tell the American people that Medicare is not accepted by all doctors because Medicare take so long to pay the doctor's bill that many doctors have to put a hold on taking new Medicare patients and wait until the bureaucrats in Medicare finally decides to pays the bills which in some cases can take over a year. Whatever you do, make sure you have some money set aside for this and/or have supplemental insurance even after retirement and being on Medicare. My family isn't rich and that $7050 really made a huge dent in our budget, especially when you include things like paying for hospital parking (totaling over $100), fuel bill for all the trips to the medical center, lost wages due to taking time off work to take her to all the doctors and hospital visits. It was a scary and difficult time for my family and with the exception of the doctors who treated her very well, we were on our own.

      Diagnostic imaging costs have no relationship at all to the value of the procedure. The real cost should be less than $500.00 for a typical 30-45 minute exam and that assumes all the support costs. The radiologists interpretation should also be inclusive in that fee for this service. This is 30 year old technology and these machines no longer cost a multiple millions to buy and install. True! Andsome doctors take take Medicare on a "non-par" ["non-participating"] agreement; in which you have to pay about 15% of the amount that Medicare approves up front each time; and then, if you wish, you may file a form that allows reimbursement of the difference.

I had attorneys appeal but it was denied. I could've had an EKG done at my primary's clinic and sent to my cardiologist brother but my primary refused to do one and sent me to the ER. Now I'm stuck with the bill. Add insult to injury: My Social Security benefits were unexpectedly cut in half by the State of Texas at the last minute when I retired. Surprise! The major problem with having bad health is our toxic food....also ......seeing a doctor and taking their toxic drugs that are made from chemicals that continues to keep you sick and or sicker. Symptoms are the body felling you that you need to change your diet or something about your body. Just like the light in you car...when it comes on...it tells you something is wrong...you just don’t tape over the light and go on driving...you look for the problem to change or fix. A doctor sees you for 10 minutes and gives you a pill to take away the pain or stop the symptoms and you stay on those pills month after month...year after year and the doctor keeps giving you more pills. Thats the scam for the medica/Big Parm idea of keeping the big bucks coming. You will never get better until you find the cause and get off that posion medication giving you more symptoms after each and every pill. Do research as to why you have high blood pressure do to potassium/magnesium Deficiency watch dr Bergs videos and learn. Your depression/heart irregular heart beats and many many deficiencies are lack of minerals and enzymes the body needs to function. Try running a car on gas alone and no oil or water....it will run, but will break down sooner or later. The vaccines and flu shots keep you ill and put toxins in you body....protect your body and it will protect you back with better health. Your doctor is only good for emergencies....anything else.....stay away. My family is never sick with colds or nothing.....have not seems a doctor in 28 years or more.....take no meds or get no vaccines. Wake up

All doctor consultations and hospitalizations are free too, unless we choose private care. The % of income I pay in tax is about the same as that paid by my sister in law in SC and the National Health Service is funded by our taxes. I too have dual citizenship. I have carried Medicare for more than ten years. With all the money paid in over my working life, plus the $169.95 a month I pay, Medicare is an absolute joke. Medicare is controlled by the insurance industry in cahoots with your politicians. Couple of years ago, while in Amsterdam came down with bad case of flu. Went to a private doctor, had an examination chest x-ray, PLUS anti-biotics - total cost was US$42.00. Feeling much better, I continued on to Zurich. Checked in with a local private doctor for a follow-up, as proposed by the Dutch doctor. Same thing: chest x-ray, examination and more anti-biotics - but a bit more expensive at US$44.!

    I've been using care credit credit card for dental & vision cause the monthly payment for that is actually much cheaper than insurance and no limitations as with some insurance plans. And for vision you can go to an opthalmologist not an optometrist and Medicare covers the 80percent. An opthalmologist is much better, more in depth exam. But then of course you have to take your prescription to an optometrist to purchase glasses. Which I again use care credit credit card.

    Thank you for this informative video. I have been unable to find info on the internet whether it makes sense to get Medicare Part B if my monthly premium is $386 + tax, so about $500/month total. I have FEHB that I will be keeping (GEHA who uses United HealthCare as the provider), and I've been happy with what they have provided. I just turned 65 and need to make a decision this month about Medicare Part B if I want to avoid a penalty. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

      @BoomerBenefits  2 роки тому

      Hi Janette - With the Part B based premium being $148.50 and you do pay an additional amount due to IRMAA, it could be more cost-effective to delay Part B. However, you will have to opportunity to appeal the IRMAA charge. At any point if you no longer make the same high income as you once had, then you can file an IRMAA appeal to appeal your high Part B premium. We have heard of many people who have FEHB who have enrolled in Part B and others who have delayed it. Just know that if you delay Part B, you will be charged with a lifelong late enrollment penalty if you were to ever enroll in Part B.
      With that said, you have options for your coverage and should choose whichever is most cost-effective by premium costs and out-of-pocket cost-sharing.

      As an example, for Medicare to cover your ambulance ride, you must be transported to the closest facility that is able to provide you with the medical care you require at the time of the emergency.

    Basically, it seems as if we can expect our medical costs to increase after we stop working. We can not assume Medicare covers medical expenses. It seems that we can expect any money we have saved for retirement, to go to medical expenses. Based on this information, if we don’t have enough money to pay medical expenses, we will go into debt. What does the government advise us to do to avoid going into medical debt? The government knows that one major medical event could potentially bankrupt the victim; what do they think we should do to avoid this outcome? What is the best coverage to insure and ensure the elderly? This is horrifying. I think death at 65 is the only solution. Or, never stop working. If companies will keep you. Unless you’re a millionaire. Thank God I saw this video. I thought Medicare was like regular insurance where you have deductibles and co-pays but that you had to have a separate plan for prescriptions. I knew it didn’t cover hearing aids; at least it didn’t pay for my grandma’s. But this video makes it clear that Medicare doesn’t really cover anything. Obviously it does cover some stuff. But not everything. I guess I won’t be retiring. Bummer. Thanks for letting me know. I’m going to go cry in my soup now.

    • @BoomerBenefits
      @BoomerBenefits  3 роки тому

      Hi Lori - Medicare covers any services that is deemed medically-necessary by your doctor. Yes, Medicare will not cover routine dental, vision, and hearing exams. But, Medicare covers many services to make up for it. For example, if you were to be admitted to the hospital or were to need surgery, Medicare will cover it. Medicare Part B covers doctor's visits, ambulance rides, durable medical equipment, vaccinations and much more. Many seniors enjoy their Medicare coverage. When it comes to cost-sharing, you will pay the Part B deductible of $203 for outpatient services and then 20% coinsurance. If you were to purchase a Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan, these plans will help with your out-of-pocket costs. Although this video discusses the things that Medicare does not cover, and it may seem like a lot, we can promise you that Medicare covers many healthcare services.
