  • This is the thunderbolt behind the abandoned Urbandale Elementary School. With it's unreliability issues, it appears they have upgraded the antenna in an attempt to improve it's reception.
The upgrade appears to have worked, but time will tell.
    Siren is a 4/5 thunderbolt 1000T with a 5m blower.
Calhoun County tests on the first Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM
    Thanks for watching!

This thunderbolt has had many problems for the past 5 years, but the radio upgrade was long overdue as some of the other sirens in the system already have new radios. The one in downtown has had little to no issues for the past 10 years so far, the only issue is the gap in between the horn and chopper cap but has proved to be anything but a problem sound wise because though it sounds funky a bit a now, for what its worth especially with the fact it has a 5M blower mounted that high it has proved to be more effective.
One of the issues this siren in particular had was ignoring cancel tones...
Back when Calhoun County switched to just 1 Minute Alert/Steady after a long time of doing 1 Minute Alert 1 Minute Attack, the thunderbolt siren would function okay with it until 5 years ago when it began to ignore the 1 minute alert and do the full 3 minutes. That was until Calhoun decided to switch to the full 3 minutes all together, it wasn't until just recently back in around mid to late 2022 the radio started to miss the activation tones and eventually grew into a bigger problem around 2023. Dan (Siren1000T) and I have been saying it for months, these older sirens can't keep working on the current radios they're using (The radios they've used originally). Dan even called and sent a voice mail to the EMA director about it directly quite literally about the whole situation with not only the Thunderbolt but with other sirens too including the ATI's.

@EastDetroitMusic-Sirens3000A kinda seems like it is just a reception issue. This particular unit just had a little whip antenna on it, and after the upgrade to an omni, it appears to be doing good.
Note these units arnt using siratrols, they have fc's

The BC tower bolt actually failed the test last month. I’m not sure if it worked this month.
