Geniuses both. But, the tragic 'Tristan and Isolde' prelude seals it; makes me cry like a baby every time. Wagner: undiluted, intravenous emotion. Siegfried's funeral march in 'Gotterdammerung' is a funeral score of epic proportions. Sheer power; in-your-face grandeur.
The Liebestod alone is enough for me to side with Wagner.

Wagner's older operas (Lohengrin, Tannhauser, The Flying Dutchman, etc.) are overrepresented, if there were more moments from the Tristan, the Ring cycle or Parsifal for instance Verdi would have been completely destroyed. Also there was a very sadly missed opportunity to put the anvils from the "Descent into Nibelheim" from Das Rheingold after the anvil chorus from Il Trovatore.

Verdi also suffers from poor choice of examples made by the author. In fact most music buffs know pretty much nothing about Verdi. His legacy is much more than a buch of overperformed and fairly overrated pieces.

Verdi humming La Forza overture is hilarious.
The greatest opera composers of all time alongside Mozart, Two geniuses who composed some of the most dramatic and emotionally powerful music ever and changed opera, I personally have a very slight preference for Verdi over Wagner but then again it is probably because I like the Italian language more than German, Either way nobody can doubt their genius when it comes to stage.

Con su concepto de "drama musical", Wagner podrá haber sido precursor de lo que más tarde se conocería como "música de película", pero sin dudas fue Verdi quien alcanzó la estatura de auténtico clásico, fundamentalmente por la profundidad humana de su música.
Felicitaciones por la producción. Didáctica y a la vez entretenida, o sea, doblemente instructiva!

castillo samuel 3:18 they forgot About Brahms Vivaldi Mendelssohn Orff Pachelbel Schumann Paganini Palestrina Puccini Offenbach ( Even thoe he’s French he’s also Germany) Correli Stockhausen R Strauss Weber Hindemith and many more they forgot even Morricone and Zimmer.
Indiscutibilmente due geni che hanno raggiunto lo stesso scopo in un dramma musicale attraverso due vie diverse. Penso sia futile stabilire chi sia stato il migliore. Al limite si rimane stupiti dalla crescita costante di Verdi rispetto alla più precoce maturità di Wagner. Forse è proprio questo aspetto che lo rende più sorprendente.
