Hailey was born on Christmas day, the last part on Castle was December 24th, and Arose takes place after he OD'd on Christmas night, so it all takes place within a single night.
At the end he says 'i'm up, it's Tuesday it's morning', Christmas, 25 Dec in 2007 was on a Tuesday. We might have lost Em that night if he were to have made it to the hospital 2 hours later (doctors words).
He struggled with depression after losing Proof, in April 2006, his best friend since highschool, they were inseparable, and not only that, later that year he divorced Kim a second time after having getting married only a few months before... from what i've heard she only did it to obtain a joint custody of Hailey.. he was takin pills like crazy, he said something like 70-80 pills a day. If you watch any of his interviews at the end of 2006 is heartbreaking, he was a husk, a walking dead, could barely talk.
Loved this one, from the same album, Revival, you can check out 'untouchable', it's incredible and with a twist or you could give 'darkness' a try, whole song's a double

Hailie knows her father's discography very well. In 2021 it was revealed that she's in the top 3% of listeners on Spotify for Eminem's music, which pretty much means she listened to all his music back to back many many times. So she knows all the stories and themes Eminem put into his music starting from before Hailie was born. She's well aware.

Like please be real, Eminem is by far my favorite artist and I enjoy 95% of his songs. But this album was really not great. It had a few good ones like walk on water, framed, believe, and ofc castle & arose. But the rest of it just sucked.

🤯 That percocet, per cassette bar in the boom box/cassette tape scheme. Thank you for catching that. I've heard this song countless times, but I was so invested in the story that I wasn't even thinking of catching bars. That one went right over my head.

Exactly! This album "flopped" because a lot people these days don't want actual content or substance. They just want brain-dead lyrics or a dance beat. But even as a "flop", Revival STILL outsold everyone else lol This album is what you'd get if it came out in the 90s, when substance and content was what Rap was about. And it reminded me of that Golden Era of Hip-Hop. For me, it had straight 90s vibes.
And I think about that "what if" all the time too. Just as I think about the "what if" Janis Joplin hadn't died from her overdose. What kind of music would she be making today and look at how much music we missed out from her because she didn't make it. It's just sad as hell to think about either of those "what if" scenarios. What if Janis survived, and what if Eminem didn't? Both are equally depressing, to me, because Janis and Eminem are my Top 2 all-time favorite artists.

He did overdose in December of 2007, was 2 hours away from dying when he reached the hospital and missed Christmas that year, which was also Hailie's birthday. He's been sober now since 2008 💪💪
If ya wanna hear more about before he became famous, check out "Rock Bottom" from 1999. It's a little more aggressive and angry as he had literally been poorer than poor just the year before.
    Nice reaction!
Fun fact: "Arose" samples "The Rose" by Bette Midler (probably spelled her name wrong) You can hear it in the background, which was from a movie that was loosely based on Janis Joplin's life.
It's the 2nd song by Em where he features a Janis-related tune. The first one was "Rock Bottom" which samples Joplin's "Summertime" song.
This album "flopped" because a lot people these days don't want actual content or substance. They just want brain-dead lyrics or a dance beat. But even as a "flop", Revival STILL outsold everyone else lol This album is what you'd get if it came out in the 90s, when substance and content was what Rap and Hip-Hop was about. And it reminded me of that era of Hip-Hop. For me, it had straight 90s vibes.
And I think about the whole "what if" he didn't make it all the time. Both are equally depressing, to me, because of the fact that Janis DIDN'T make it and how we have missed out on who knows how many great songs she would've made if she had and the fact that Eminem almost didn't make it and thinking about all the songs we would've missed out on had he not. Both are my Top 2 all-time favorite artists.

New subscriber. As a 40 year old man I swear I love watching reactions and seeing younger people find Eminem’s music and see that it makes them react the exact same way as people who are my age. This album was a masterpiece and I’m glad that his true fans listened and understood what this album was. After overdosing he had to learn to do everything again, including rap, grieving for Proof who passed shortly before and to just function. His hater’s say “Oh I can’t relate to any of his music!”, This album was for them but they never gave it a chance! Which gave us Kamikaze and MTBMB A&B!
Great vid and I look forward to watching more videos of yours in the future!

This actually happened. He overdosed in December 2007 and the doctors thought he would actually die.
and when he rewrote the last castle verse in arose to be positive and flushed the pills down the toilet in arose that symbolized him kicking his addiction just a short while after he recovered in April 2008, powerful stuff
he got clean because he relapsed again AFTER his overdose and started taking just as many pills that he overdosed on in the first place and it scared him straight, and because he wanted to be there for his daughters
that takes some serious strength. crazy we almost lost Em

EM was taking up to 60 Valium and 30 Vicodin pills a day. He had the equivalent of 4 bags of heroine in him that day. There is quite honestly no reason for him to be alive outside of the fact he had conditioned his body to so much drugs at that point. Anyone who wasn’t a long term addict would have died long before they even got to the hospital. They said he was a matter of 2 hours away from death; any small interference would have ended this man’s life. Clearly he was put here for a reason. Then he somehow managed to recover (practically had to relearn how to rap (hence the different EM we have today vs this era)) and come back just as strong. No matter if you hate or love EM, his story is nothing short of amazing and a miracle.

Just a reminder u CAN over dose and be lucky the hospital got u to live but YES HE DID OVER DOSE after his best friend died and he already was self Medicating just to stop the pin of his life. In childhood he had, but after proof died, it kinda just threw him over the edge because his career didn't seem to be going anywhere, and then it started getting good. And then his best friend in his world died. And he self medicated to the point where he felt like he was not worthy of anybody. And then he did flat line, yeah, she did. That's what overdose means. But now everybody dies from overdose. He came through just amazing. I have a little sister who did die. And unfortunately, not come back from her. Overdo set a 20 year old so I don't understand the pain of this. And to hear him, he is such. A light for people to see that you can overcome things
