Thank you for posting this. I just rebuilt my Mercy's internal wiring harness yesterday. I don't know how I missed this one of your videos as I have watched mist of them... Your videos encouraged me to try and get this old Merc up and running, thank you.
Hey Son. Have you ever come across one of these woring harnesses thats brittle and corroded back into the main connector? Just wondering if its still repairable if i cut the rubber back
It is doable. Would have to be good at fabrication of the transom bracket and it will work. Maybe I'll do an episode on that. I've always wanted one too. Son
Thank you for your videos. We recently purchased a older lund with a Mercury 90 and i came across the same troubles with the wiring harness. If you could help with anywhere i can find identifying s/n of this motor would be great. Also found the 3 third carb linkage broken and am unable to be sure of finding the correct parts needed. would love to get this ol girl out on the water.
Hi MerCson, I have a 1969 Merc 1000ss who’s harness I’ve taken apart and most of the wiring looks good, but both the positive and negative leads are very corroded. I tried to go to Home Depot but it doesn’t look like they have anything there that I can use to splice in. I’d prefer to avoid having to buy the entire new CDI harness if I could. Do you happen to know if I need marine wiring or where I can get something similar to the original? Thanks!
Couple questions? I have a 1974 115 and would like to upgrade my control box is it possible to wire to newer controls? Second question whoever had it last used a lot of liquid tape on all the wires on the motor do they make a harness or will I have to replace them one wire at a time?
Do you think you can help me find out the what wires go on 50 hp blue band merc 1979 there is a small cluster with three wires purple with white stripe brown and white comming off the sifft box
Ok when it comes to wiring I’m a dummy. I pride myself on not having to ask anyone for help on just about everything but wiring, like I said, me dummy. lol. I have a mercury ignition and one that I bought. Don’t know which wire goes where on the switch side. Can you help?
I'm not overly familiar with wire gauge. It also depends on which wiring. The main from the battery requires a thick guage. All of the others require enough to transmit 12-16 volts. Similar to that of a boat trailer...just slightly thicker. Hope this helps. Son
the salmon colored wire plugs into the motor harness but i dont see it coming out. all i see is red and white wire for switch box and starter wires. what does the salmon wire go or hooked to on motor?
Dose any one no what kind of fracking wire and plug this damn thing is I'm trying to buy one for my dads boat and this all I can find that's the same!!!!!!
ok im trying to wire a key switch to a merc 650 1965 65hp power and don't see the gray wire all the colors i see is blue, red, yellow, white color's and the black and red 8 gauge wire ground and solenoid one.. if can send you a email with pic. o and the key switch im using.

Thank you so much for doing this video. Your videos are so helpful to me, I am in the middle of rebuilding one of these.

Hello thank you for your videos I just ordered a new internal wiring harness and was hoping u could help me with which wire goes where?
Depends on what engine you have...

Serial number should be above where you you hand tight the clamps to your transom on the transom bracket. Right below the face of the engine. Son
Where did you purchase the donor harness

Don't necessarily need marine wiring. Just make sure the gauge is correct. Might try autozone or advanced auto. Son

This is how you would convert it to a newer style controls. And yea, cdi does make internal wiring harnesses for Ole mercs. Son

There's a 12v wire that connects to the starter selonoid. All you have to do is make sure the voltage connects when you turn the keyswitch. Son
