My personal top 5 games of the year: 1) Astro Bot 2) Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club 3) Super Mario Party Jamboree 4) The Plucky Squire 5) Animal Well Cheers 🍻
I heard Plucky Squire came out kinda half baked so I didn't buy it. You're the first vote of confidence I've really seen. Interested to hear why you like it because I buried it post release.
@ I didn’t buy it at launch, so I don’t know if there were any updates that fixed any bugs. In fact, it was the last game I played on my top 5 list. I think it just comes down to personal taste. I really like the art style/narrative as I find it rather joyful and charming. The gameplay isn’t particularly difficult but I do like how it mixes things up from top down Zelda style game play, to 3D action adventure, to shooter and Punch Out battles etc. I simply had a blast 👍🏻
@ I know what you mean! I came into it thinking it would be like phoenix wright, but its mechanics are way different! I still wish there was an English dub…
For me, it kind of ruined my return to Phoenix Wright. Love the courtroom scenes and the general goofiness but Maya is such an annoying sidekick, whereas Emio hit the perfect tone for me. 80s Japanese nostalgia done perfectly, the amazement around the concept of a cellphone was brilliant 😂
Fantastic lists, guys - always look forward to these every year. That said, I would like to recommend a game not on any of the guys' lists, released on Switch this year, that is also criminally underrated - Freedom Planet 2! Apparently, Freedom Planet 2 has actually been on Steam since 2022, but I didn't even know this game existed until I saw the release trailer for Nintendo Switch last April, and that's where I played it. I remembered my good times with FP1 from the Wii U days (which is also great, though FP2 is even better), was wow'ed by the trailer, and dove right in - best decision ever! FP2 really is a beautiful game that anyone who loves Sonic, Mega Man X, or really any 90s era platformer would love. The amount of passion, love, and care that went into it cannot be overstated, and hearing it had a 7 year development time makes all the sense in the world. All 4 playable characters are fun to play as, and there are over 30 varied bosses (40 if you want to count sparring mode) and hours of content. Every stage is fresh and creative...and it actually has a good water level...a REALLY good one. I love me some Sonic Mania, and thought Sonic Superstars was okay, but FP2 really does surpass them in pretty much every regard (OK, still hard to beat Tee Lopes Mania soundtrack, though FP2 does have some great tunes). Do yourself a favor, support the devs that absolutely deserve it, and give this one a try. For a scant $25, you ABSOLUTELY will be getting your money's worth.
Surprised it took until the last video for somebody to mention Zelda! My personal GotY, it was so fun to explore and see how many ways there were to solve puzzles or get around!
I also spent 6 weeks or so around November replaying stardew valley. Haven't played it since version 1.1 and there's SO much stuff that wasn't in the game originally now that it's been just a joy playing it again. Also doing a co op farm with my wife for the first time and the co op works brilliantly! With two people you can absolutely cane it through floors in the mines, even on unlucky days. Wonderful game
I struggled completing Echoes of Wisdom felt really fun when I was just sending echoes out to fight Pokemon-style. My issue was the leaned too hard on Wisdom= Puzzles and just didn’t do anything with Zelda as a character, she’s a princess and no political turmoil, uniting the races, they don’t even know who she is.
my 5 games: 1. Super Mario Party Jamboree 2. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of wisdom 3. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door 4. Mario & Luigi: Brothership 5. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

I swear most UA-camrs never finish any games. Anytime Nintendolife talks about xenoblade games it drives me crazy, as they seem to have half played them all, then given up.
My top 5 Switch games of the year: 1) The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom 2) Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown 3) Steamworld Heist 2 4) Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition 5) Fear the Spotlight Including non-Switch games: 1) Astro Bot 2) Silent Hill 2) 3) Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess 4) The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom 5) Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Balatro is an odd one for me, I loved it, but found myself being infuriated with it more than having fun...even after the balance updates. Just because the game will find a way to screw you over before you can get to the 8th ante, boss blind screws you over, or in my case, it constantly gives me terrible hands. No matter how many discards I have, it would never give me what I need...same can be said about the Jokers, even when I get Blueprint and/or Brainstorm. Like, plenty of runs I'll just get chip jokers, or +Mult Jokers....and never get a single xMult Joker at all. lol
Thanks for these vids but one point of constructive feedback: it'd be nice to keep these videos solo. I just want to hear Alex's (or Felix's or Zion's if I were watching those videos) opinions here. The banter isn't a reason for clicking a video with this title. 💁🏼♂️ (Edit - especially because much of the banter here was "I didn't play/finish it" on a mainline Nintendo 2024 title - yikes. This is a Nintendo-focused channel, yeah?)
My personal top new to me games were: 1. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom 2. Paper Mario: TTYD 3. Minami Lane 4. Mario & Luigi: Brothership Everything else I played this year I either didn't like or it was a replay (Hades, Final Fantasy, Story of Seasons making the top playtimes).
Emio: The Smiling Man gets my fave 2024 game vote followed by Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Unicorn Overlord Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown M&L Brothership It's been a great year for games
For the algorithm, my top 5 games in order of best to worst are fire emblem 3 houses, Celeste, Mario and Luigi brothership, Resident Evil 4 and last and very least… Echoes of Wisdom.
In no particular order- Echoes of Wisdom Tears of the Kingdom Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Mario Odyssey Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (mostly cuz I finally bought Diamond)
Balatro isn’t a game that I would buy for myself (I’m not an “optimizer” naturally), but I quite enjoyed the mini version in Dave the Diver, so I understand the appeal!
@chrizchanang yea if into card games. I'm not, a lot of ppl aren't. Ppl keep talking about it like it's the 2nd coming of christ, it's a stupid card game.
Sorry, but overall these games suck. Nintendo Switch is obsolete going into 2025! All new games sucks going into 2025. Time for Nintendo Switch 2! This is not sugar coated.

With Balatro, every time people explained the game it made no sense to me. I finally bit the bullet yesterday and I am starting to like it for sure
