Franklin's almost superhero ability to never say no to the people he grew up with has a lot to do with the culture he grew up in. You look out for your people, care about them no matter how much they annoy you, and hope that one day they get better and stop acting like you're selfish or uppity for wanting better for yourself.

I remember reading an article around the time the game was first released that the three protagonists have a purpose beyond driving the plot: they each represent something about how these characters are used in the story versus how they're used by the player. Franklin represents the protagonist Rockstar has always made, the young upstart making a name for himself. Michael represent the protagonist that Rockstar has always wanted to make: the guy that grows tired of the life he's lived and has become disillusioned with the ideals that got him to where he is explores life after his retirement. Trevor represents the mindset of most players on their free time: crazy one-man-army types that use their insanity and massive weapons arsenals to take down various forms of law enforcement and gangbangers. These archetypes were separated for GTA5 because the way people played as Niko the way people do when they're bored in any GTA, which created dissonance with Niko's desire to put the violence behind him with a fresh start in Liberty City.

From what i heard it's only to show how people play the game. Franklin is the newcomer, that wants to see everything and dreams of what he can archive. Maybe even outside of his limitations... So sometimes also out of bounds in a way.
Micheal is the old gamer, searching for stuff and want to explore all the game has to offer.
Trevor, the psychopath. That only wants to rum rampage and don't really uses all the game has to offer. So basically the people, that online random kill and explain and excuse their actions with (It's GTA. Why i should not?)... It's online not singleplayer.... But whatever. But yeah, heard that back then too. :)

You missed one Unique detail in the Mission The Paleto Score. If you choose Packie for the mission, he will give a unique Recap on the GTA IV Mission: Three Leaf Clover. He will mention the whole thing how it went down (if anyone played GTA IV and remembered the mission). Packie will even say that Derrick died (Unknown whether he was killed by Niko or Died from an overdose after 2008) & how Niko was probably dead. And during the shootout he will say something about using the Heavy Armor 5 years prior to GTA V & when the NOOSE Team appears, Packie will mention how he 'missed' those guys.

Also I can relate to Franklin in how he wants to do more but is called stuck up along with some other things about his personality, also sorta helps that I am black and grew up in the hood, which is kinda surreal when I think about it and makes him my favorite of this trio. It also helps that while he has Lamar, he has no one as frustratingly stubborn and delusional as Sweet was with Cj.

I know the constant re-releases and milking GTA:O have soured many people's opinions on this game, but I still love it despite all that. The missions are fun and diverse, the three leads are great and superbly acted, great attention to detail, and the map and side content is fun to explore. I was always of the opinion that the game's story was deeper than most people gave it credit for. There's some really great writing and story-telling in places, the way it introduces you to the Prologue, and it slowly reveals the truth throughout the story as to what really happened, and culminates in Bury the Hatchet, a well-done mission. Through the conversations and cutscenes, you can piece together some interesting backstories of the characters and their personalities.
Michael is actually one of the more fascinating protagonists the the franchise, because people always debatable whether he did the right thing or not in how he betrayed his crew, only for his actions to come back and haunt him, and strain his relationship with his family, and he did what he did for them, and they never seem to fully appreciate that. Compared to characters like Claude, Tommy, Toni, and Trevor who do terrible things but players often don't bat an eye, you then have Michael who does get criticised by players for what he did. Franklin is essentially a spiritual successor to CJ and Luis Lopez, born in the hood and want to do bigger and better things, but feel held back. Just like Luis, he meets a father figure (Tony for Luis, and Michael for Franklin) who takes him under his wing. He's feels real, laid-back, and somewhat relatable. And Trevor is fun to have around and honestly makes the game better, and he had a complicated and messed-up past. Honestly, Trevor is like Niko if Niko's broken nature and pent-up anger was on the surface. They were both in the army (or at least tried to be) and that didn't go well for them. They had rough upbringings and had to deal with betrayal from close friends. The game really revolves around the three characters' dynamics and conflicts with one another, which is why the antagonists aren't that great.
Everyone argues about whether IV or V is better. I'm just gonna go ahead and say I think they're both masterpieces

I always just seen it as boredom, that this is the only gta game we’ve had in 10 years and people have examined this game so much and played it constantly that everyone is just bored of the game at this point and grown to not hate the game, but not really see it the same as we once did and not like it as they once did, i say they because i still love this game after all these years, genuinely one of my favourite games to ever exist and makes me sad to see everyone hating on it in recent years, i can take criticism and i know people have opinions but i will support and stick up for this game whenever i can, i love the characters especially Trevor hes one of my favourite characters in gaming, gameplay is fine, i love the heists, the other characters, the atmosphere, how cars handle, the stories ok but not the worst, i like the side content its fun, music is great.

By definition Trevor is a Mary Sue and to me ruined the story of GTA V with his cartoon level of antics. GTA always had unrealistic aspects to its story yet Rockstar at least seemed to try and keep things grounded but Trevor being in a lore a unstoppable killing machine who can do whatever whenever he wants to anyone regardless of who they are or their position in the world got really really fucking old after about two hours and it only keeps getting more and more ridiculous. I think back to GTA 4 or SA and how even little criminals like Vlad and the like a small timers yet still show how powerful even they are to our protagonist. Even after killing these people there are consequences and issues that arise from doing that. Trevor? Leaders of a massive biker gang? Kills them in a MISSION, one mission. Martin Madrazo? International criminal who is infamous for his reach and connections who terrified everyone in the story. Oh but not super hero Trevor nope he cuts his ear off and threatens him with ZERO repercussions. Not a single time in the entire 50 hour fucking story does anyone ever Outsmart Outthink or have any type of real Power over Trevor, it’s his story from the get go and everything else that the game builds and works toward the game shits on if Trevor is in the scene because “oh haha wacky Trevor being Trevor”. Remember this is a fucking GTA protagonist.

I think Trevor went to kill Michael for his betrayal, but upon seeing how terrible his life was, he changed his mind.

That's one of the things I love about Trevor. I don't think he could bring himself to harm a close friend, even if he wanted to. In a setting where people run each over just to shave a few seconds off the commute, this makes Trevor more moral than most.

I remember how exciting it was back in 2013, going and picking up my preordered copy after school and being blown away. So much has changed in the past ten years, and yet GTA 5 remains. I hope some day to look back on this game and be able to relive some of that excitement... Unfortunately GTA online took over and has kept this game in the spotlight. While it remains arguably one of the best open world games, the flaws and shortcomings (albeit few and far between) become more apparent as time goes on. Rockstar is unfortunately peerless, and it seems the days of other devs even bothering to make open world crime games are over.

I'm going to hot take here: I loved how they finished off Johnny. I am going to give you the "his life fell apart off screen" reason. For the reason for that is because he stayed with Ashley. If it was a different girl, I'd agree with your rant. But the fact he stayed with her, ruined his life and that was most important part of IV's DLC, that he was leaving her alone to live a better life. And he couldn't do that. So the way they killed him off, was perfect. Great shock value and made weirdly love trevor's crazy ass.

    • @CaaaramelApples
      @CaaaramelApples 9 місяців тому +5

Not to mention.. relapses happen, it’s horrible but they happen often, when you add in that he stayed around Ashley it’s almost inevitable for it to have happened. I think the scene portrays the harsh reality around addiction and how being around the wrong people can really make somebody unrecognizable and quickly start a downward spiral

GTAV is my favourite game of all time, maybe one of my favourite stories too. I do hear where you're coming from with the villians though. I felt like it all revolved around the Michael / Trevor dynamic which is why the focus was on the govt. so much, but Haines was lacking substances and agree there didn't seem to be massive stakes on it. Even with that aside, I think there were a lot of fun missions in the game and I played though it again this year for the sixith (I know lol) time and still enjoyed iy. For a 10 year old game that's a massive achievement.

It came out when I was 14, 2 weeks into my freshman year of high school. I remember waiting that whole summer to play it, trying not to rush the summer but that was the sweet side of going back to school. I remember getting home to the game waiting for me, spending 6-8 hours everyday after school for the next 6 days doing as much as I could and soaring through the story to beat it. By the end of the 6 days, I was completely flabbergasted with how badly Rockstar dropped the ball with some of the writing on the story, as well as the lack of purchasing additional safe houses and garages, and the smaller size of the map without San Fierro and Las Venturas like the OG San Andreas (my favorite GTA by FAR even to this day). That being said, even with V being one of the GTA games I have some pretty significant gripes with, that opening North Yankton heist, Bury The Hatchet, Trevor kidnapping Patricia and a few other moments just transport me RIGHT back to 10 years ago when I first played and I feel the wave of nostalgia from everything in my life even socially from that time period. I can’t believe I’m 24 now 🤯🤯
