You can buy lemons at Lina's store to use for yellow dye. One of the easiest money makers is buying tuna from Bruno, flour from the store, and make fish fingers to sell at the diner. If it's early in the game and tuna isn't unlocked at Bruno's market, you can simply buy cheap fish from Bruno, then sell it right back to him to reach the amount needed to unlock his selling of the tuna.

Also as for yellow colour, anything yellow would be good to create the pigment, which is a big relief!
I have hundreds of thousands of dollars and I’m still pretty much early-mid game from selling fish sticks/fish fingers (whatever you wanna call them) and it’s SUCH A LIFE SAVER! The only struggle I’m having is collecting enough soil. It’s frustrating.
for the soil I figured out the best way is to get like 4 compost bins and put there soil daily, in couple of days repeat, so basically have it running all the time!

Yeah getting the soil for the bigger plot is such a slog, never been so happy to wake up and see a weed lmao.
Maybe it's changed but a heads up, squids are caught with crickets. Chubs are also very cheap to buy at 4 gold a piece, crickets are a bit more expensive but still affordable, I think the energy expenditure is really more relevant in the early game.
Crickets can be also brought by your cat if you pet her!
I am the same, no way I'm selling any of my animals to the butcher. I'll just keep them forever. I actually got 6 chickens (5 brown and 1 white) and I'm not sure if their look is randomized or if it's dependent on how you name them? Can't test this now, because the game tells me I cannot have more then 6 and I am not having them butchered. Anyway I like that there is variety to how they look. Makes it even more personal.
The best way to make money is fish sticks, if you enable that in the game settings. You can then buy cheap fish from Bruno and flour from Lina and make a bunch of sticks to make money fast. It does take away some of the enjoyment though as nothing it locked behind money wall anymore and the game goes much faster. Also the squid can be bought from Bruno after you sell him enough fish but yeah, coal is a lot easier to get for ink production.
Yes fish sticks! I've been catching char and making lots each day, but I guess buying from Bruno makes more sense hehe!
You can as well sell them to Marty (I believe it's the name of of the ranch guy). Is he passing them to the butcher? O___O
I think the main factor that is stopping me from the fast progress is not the money, but different ingredients like bananas, colours, textiles etc.
And as the very smart person I am, I prefer to act first, think afterwards meaning sometimes I sell what I actually need :D
