- In Episode 3 of The Out of Doors, Joe and I explore the discussion of "A Becker for Each Season". In this 5 part series, we cover which of the Becker lineup we would choose to bring with us if we could only choose one for each season. We cover why we chose the particular knife that we selected, and how we anticipate needing to use it. We cover the pro's, con's, and in some cases, other available and suitable options from the Becker lineup.
PART 1: FALL - BK7, BK9
PART 2: WINTER - BK9, BK29
PART 3: SPRING - BK16, BK12
PART 4: SUMMER - BK11, BK16
PART 5: ALL SEASONS - BK2

Awesome Job guys👍. Cheers René
Thanks!! Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this series. I look forward to the rest of the vids. I Love my BK9. I have not seen the BK29 until now. For Winter I trust my BK9 for a great all-around knife, for chopping, splitting, fire prep, and protection. I have thought about getting an AZWelke Kydex sheath for it, but you bring up a great point with the nylon sheath helping to keep it dry, especially in Winter. As for the coffee...I never, ever go anywhere without my coffee kit: MSR Pocket Rocket, Snow Peak Titanium French Press and my favorite Columbian coffee. I also carry my Lixada Camping Wood Burning Stove in case I need a wood fire.
Bushcraft and coffee are a magnificent combination! No match a BK9 in the woods with a coffee...trifecta perfecta!!
Yeah, that BK29 is not a popular blade...and was a very limited release. Not many people really know about it, which is sorta why I chose it for this video. Added a level of interest and unique perspective!
For colder weather / winter camping I carry my BK 9 as I like the bigger oomph of the 9. I always carry a hatchet, a folding saw, and a belt knife (the holy trinity.) In colder weather, even though I have a hatchet, I still like the bigger blade.
Having a larger blade definitely helps. I think it makes a big different to be able to split wood. I'm not much of a hunter...so I'm not skinning or preparing food quite so much, so having a larger blade is advantageous to me. Thanks for watching!
What folding saw do you use?
Currently I'm carrying the Bahco Laplander, though I'm going to test out the Sven Saw next weekend. For deep winter camping I find that sometimes I skip the fire, as its too chilly to just hang out by the fire. However, I want to be in a position of strength when Im out on the trail, and the saw and bigger blade and/or hatchet gives me more flexibility.
That BK-29 is the Real Deal
Tha's a bad-ass bowie! I really enjoy that knife...it doesn't get the use that other blades get...sometimes a larger blade is just not as convenient...but boy do I enjoy a nice large chopper.
Good Video. I personally will never file anything down on a blade. If there is something I dislike then I won't buy the knife.
I do love the Becker bk9 You need a Big blade for the monster Grizzlies Monster Timberwolves etc. to the North of me.
I feel like most knives have some level of a flaw...if you can modify the blade and make it fit your style and needs, why not! There's a strange satisfaction that comes from making a successful mod! But yeah, I know you said you've had some run-ins with some visitors in the past!
My Gerber Strongarm is strapped to my saddle
I have not used the Strongarm, but I know everyone likes it. Something I should buy at some point.
I have 2 and 1 is a safe queen. The safe queen is the BDZ version
Bk10 all seasons!
I have never used the BK10...it's in a great size class and definitely something I could see getting year round use! Watch PART 5, which will be Thursday's video. We discuss a BK for year-round use.
Very Good entertaining video. Animal attack ?
Hasn't happened to me personally but I know people and have heard other stories. Some subs with issues too... not common, but it does happen
A bic, lol
Thats reality
