I find it so funny that two of the guys in Ip Man 4 who are playing karate guys are actually Wing Chun guys in real life. Chris Collins being one and the other guy being Mark Strange who played the karate guy who fought the Bruce Lee character in the alleyway.
This is an excellent technique, most sticky hands are straight and angular, your circular hands are 360 degrees all over. Same principle is using in a lot of Chinese internal styles. Thank you to show the public this technique and the principle of it.

If he was making actual contact at a PADDED opponent it would be more "convincing", or a partner who was not "playing along" with him but rather a partner having more natural reactions or at least giving some small level of resistance. Of course it's just a drill, but the point of a drill is to prepare for actual combat, so therefore drill a little closer to a combat experience. Of course the demo guys speed is very very good
This sticky hand training wouldn't work without a sticky hand partner. It's just training, learning how to get loose and flow. I'm not a Wing Chun fan, but I don't trash it either. I thought for a very long time Point Karate is just bs, til I saw Wonderboy Thompson snipering people left and right. Get a few different things in your toolbox. Wing Chun maybe not advantage in most cases, but when you Dudley"MachineGunBlow" somebody at the right time, he's fd.

Therefore if you want to show off stryking you thus must have a paddded opponent as I originally stated, the contact w/the padded person would serve his purpose of his stryking demo (or just do it on a punching bag). But he's only hitting air so why in the world are you showing us a thousand strikes for. He is also trying to demo his impressive speed but the partner is not moving at any high speed, nor is the partner giving even 30-50% resistance. The point of showing his full throttle speed is to show that it's fast enough to overcome a reacting opponent, or at least a slightly resisting opponent. If this were a REAL Chi Sao demo it would've been exactly as you said: Showing us sensitivity only, which are brief seconds of reactions. But since it's NOT for Chi Sao OR sensitivity and it's actually trying to show how practical his moves are then it is therefore more of a sparring session here yet the partner he told to act dead, so it's a useless sparr. And to demo his super strikes is really his main feature, yet it's just striking air. When he actually tries those impressive flurry of strikes on a padded person or a padded dummy he'll encounter resistance upon the impact and realize it's not as fast as he thinks it is, it'll be 35% slower! (like running on grass then running on sand).This guy is 9 yr marine btw so he's in strong shape and he makes an appearance in the newest Ip Man 4 film.
Why would someone attack you in your training school? Aren’t you friends? And if you are attacked by your friend can you defend yourself, or is it mandatory to just stand there to take the 20 punch combination?
He's just doing a Demo. Training with Sifu Chris is a real privilege, he is patient, kind and generous with his knowledge. No video can truly showcase the breadth of his skill, or his passion for martial arts and teaching.
Getting hit and light slaps to the face are part of training so you learn not to flinch when hit or shy away. If you think you wont get hit training to fight in any style, i dont know what to tell you. The man has excellent controll on his pun sau
The point is, when u are defending. You can attack too(it's like counter attack). And when u r attacking u can defend too. To have this ability need to learn " chi sao ". Correct me if im wrong. Just my little opinion :)

Chris uses speed to get in..while his student stays at the same rate.. getting in should be from skill not from speeding up.. if his student responded by moving faster then it would be a stalemate. There is a way to use one hand to "bounce" multiple fast attacks away, I guess Chris hasnt taught his student how to do that. I notice old vids of Bruce training Chi Sao with a friend and how he would also just use speed to get in.. speed has its use and advantages..but when you try to put more power into a strike you have to sacrifice speed.

所謂MMA就是綜合武術，一場比賽裡你可能使用到拳擊,柔術,抱摔,關節技等等等等，我們對於傳統武術在應用上的錯誤理解，就在於我們總是以「傳武」對抗「MMA」的方向在思考，事實上MMA的宗旨就是在實戰中每個變化的瞬間都能切換適合的武術來達到勝利，UFC裡也有位選手在比賽中使用過詠春的技法，但他並不是整場都只使用詠春，而是在那個當下詠春的技法是合適的，於是將其有效地使用出來。這也是我認為傳武依然保有少數實戰價值的原因，通過學習世界上各種武術且輔以大量實戰，將傳武中還可以使用的招式去蕪存菁並融會貫通，雖然這樣一來就是承認單純的傳武是無法和MMA來對抗，但事實本來就是如此。

何不去找些詠春人打打呢? 如果你有練boxing，他們也無從應付你的距離變化，angles，只要你shell up，走位，轉角度，很快他們就追過來，大家都在打boxing，誰比較有優勢? 打左勾吧，有驚人的效果，然而他們天天在說曲線打不到他們。如果用泰拳和他們打，根本上不用多說。

@@yuwmelon3868 不，你不懂囧，真正的詠春(麻煩自稱武術大師的武棍滾開，這邊不是在講他們)，用科學角度去看的話，是利用手臂的槓桿+人體關結活動範圍+肌肉力道使用+神經的痛覺感受和癱瘓+力學原理去實施的赤手搏鬥技術
熟練到越後面，詠春根本像在下棋，你甚至可以在每一回合去設計出防禦和反擊動作，一步步引誘敵人做出你希望他使出的攻擊模式，然後再KO他
你可以把這部影片的速度放慢或按暫停，你會發現教練是在用槓桿+力學來達到以最小的力量做出最高效率的阻斷敵方攻擊的路徑和力道，這邊的力學原理和修車用的千斤頂是一樣的，槓桿支點不同、所要花費的力道也不同
如果速度還是太快，建議可以找葉準師父的教學紀錄片，他教人都是很慢的，因為要讓學員更好懂這道理，而且葉準師傅會停下來讓學生思考：「下一步之後第二步的第三步該怎麼出?該怎麼防?」，等學生想完了、學生自己動起來，葉準師傅才會繼續跟著動，防禦後反擊學生，讓學生明白：「你這步棋思考的不夠精細，要再加油」，所以會持續停停打打停停打打
真心覺得那些假的武術大師們，把真正的武術意義給騙爛了= =讓大家以為傳武真的都垃圾或只是表演用的花拳繡腿...
若只練boxing和詠春的兩位武術家，重訓量、體能量和其他素質都一樣的話，boxing要打贏詠春很難，對詠春來說boxing的思路太簡單了，用手臂角度或關結活動範圍的限制，就能輕鬆卡住對方的攻擊
這就好比不論多重的車，千斤頂的槓桿角度和支力點對了，就是能只花一點力氣就把車輕易抬起來，意思是一樣的
就是因為詠春這個性質，世界強國的美軍才願意將詠春納入近戰搏擊的必修課程之一，但不是學完詠春就沒事了，他們還要學其他不同派門的武術，然後融會貫通去視情況使用或合在一起用

Chris (Colin) would probably tell you the same, which is why he is also a black belt at BJJ so he has the skills to deal with what Wing Chun doesn't. Submissions on the floor.
