This was the most helpful video I could find after weeks of searching. The difference between presets bin & custom bin is often overlooked. Thank you kind sir for your work, my presets are very well organised now.
This is one of the examples where the developers did a very poor job on a very obvious user need. Your video was a big help for me to work around this and I believe I just discovered a way to make this even easier. If you drag and drop folder A into folder B, it will auto-sort folder A into the right spot amongst the others (if there are any) in folder B. Same goes for presets, simple rename them to your needs and then drag and drop them into the desired folder. Again, it will auto-sort, but only the one(s) you just dropped in, it does not move whatever is in there already. Hope that helps.
Glad you've fought the Effects Presets battle for us to demo the oddities of Premiere's Presets folder organization. Thanks for your years of lessons... and bringing clarity to our ever-changing non-linear edit tools! (said the editor who's been through AvidMC, FinalCutPro, now PremierePro since 1996 ;)
I've been in total desperation moving 5 years of presets from laptop to pc and sort them the way i wanted. Thankyou so much for this video idk why didn't i search for it earlier
Lifesaver, I never thought to save my effects this way,I usually save a clip and it’s effects as a project to use as a template but this is faster and more useful, cheers Colin.
Good damn! I'm starting my editing journey at the age of 29 i thought i'm too old and regretting not starting it in my younger age and i saw this channel now i'm on fire 🔥
Happy New Year, Colin. Thanks for another great video. I'm taking an After Effects class this year with the hopes of being able to develop presets for titles, lower thirds, and so on. These organization tips are fabulous, and came at just the right time for me. Good luck in 2022, and I look forward to seeing what great tips you bring us. Proud subscriber.
Hi Colin, Thank you for this video. very helpful. I am facing an issue don't know if you can help please. I save my presets and the next time i come into my project the preset is gone. this happens some times and other time it doesn't and i dont do anything different in both cases. Do you know what the issue might be? Thank you,
9:22 I LOL'd Typical adobe old code that's been overlooked in turn of brand new buggy features. Great video Colin. Do you know if there's a way to take a custom preset bin and have it appear at the top; even above the "Presets" bin? Crazy that even in CC 2023 it doesn't seem to let you organize whichever folder in whichever position.
Maybe I missed it, but what I'm looking for is basically a way to rearrange my Presets in the Favorites folder, to sort them by alphabetical order. Is that possible?
The last two - three years I have told myself I have to organize my presets. Thanks for kicking my back. And just to mention: Jarle Leirpoll, whose presets you mention, has written my Norwegian "Bible" on how to make videos. The title of the book is "Video i praksis" and my copy is the fifth edition. (I don't think I have to tell what is my video editing "Bible" on the internet.)
Thx Colin. Auto-alphabetization is a gross oversight of basic interface design. But it’s not Adobe’s only example. After Effects won’t sort files properly in the project window either (try sorting the following composition names - 01, 02, 03, 03a, 04, 05). And there are others. These kinds of things drive me crazy. So small a ‘bug’ that never gets squashed.
Usually if something remains semi-busted like this, it's because the underlying code is very old and hard to fix without breaking more parts of the application.
@@VideoRevealed It's a small world. I've been in contact with him for at least 15 years. You and he are the most helpful guys I know, so no wonder you are friends. Thanks!
Thank you for all your UA-cam videos. I have premier pro 2021, some of the presets files and folders have small star and I cannot delete, move or rename them. I tries to search for the folder that they are in it in the computer but I could not find any reference to them. Just an example of preset of this type "Convolution Kernel" and "Lense distortion removal" and many others like that. I may have imported them sometime ago, but I cannot remember the names of the original files that I imported those presets from. I searched the entire computer for files or folders by those names, nothing was found. When I right click on any of those presets files and folder in premier pro effect panel, I see that the "delete" option is grayed out and I cannot delete them also I cannot rename them. How to solve this problem? Thank you
Is there a way to edit a preset that has been already used in multiple clips and have it automatically update the changes in all the clips it's been used on without having to reapply the updated version to all the clips?
Great tutorial. Thanks! Hope some day Adobe automatically save presets on Adobe Creative Cloud. Moving presets to another computer is not an easy task, that doesn't makes sanse to me.
A trick I found to get my custom preset bins to the top of the list is to make a new temporary preset bin, drag the preset bin that you want to be at the top inside of the new bin, and then drag it back out to the main presets bin. It will pop up to the top of the list and then you can delete the temporary bin.
Hi!!! Please I need help... I did export all my organized presets and when I wanted to import them in a fresh windows and premiere installation O god... I could emport them back, but when I change the name of any preset or folder and restart the program the presets doesn't change, and it's a infinite bug, Now I can't work because premiere doesn't save changed on presets. I did a huge research and this is a huge problem with many people, I'm so sad I can't work anymore until I fix this. Please if anyone knows something help me!!! I beg you.
You can't save these on a per project basis, can you? Seems unnecessary if Im saving custom color corrections for interview footage to have those Lumetri presets follow me around on a global project basis and clog up my effects folder.

thanks,
does the adobe updates write over these custom presets?
Happy New Year!
Updates don't but I always save just in case.
Is there any plugin that can manage all this folders? Premiere is a mess... And I can't export all the presets I have I can't believe it.
Yes, saving Presets to the cloud would be amazing.
Just found that if you drag your presets bin (after changing the name) into your top bin, then undo (ctrl + z), it'll go to the top
A trick I found to get my custom preset bins to the top of the list is to make a new temporary preset bin, drag the preset bin that you want to be at the top inside of the new bin, and then drag it back out to the main presets bin. big thanks....but where is the preset location on hardisk drives in windows 10
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder 2022\Plug-Ins\en_US\Effect Presets
