We have Grizzlies, Cougars, Wolves, Moose. The Grizzly always scares me the most. I was at the top of a trail one day and looked down the cliff side to where the trail turns back in, there was a huge grizzly. I didn't take my eyes off him until he was out of sight.
Happy first ride of the season. My goal is to ride 3x a week for endurance and weight loss so that by summer I can ride trails without worrying about turning my rims into tacos. As for wildlife last summer I was riding my old gray Marlin 7 back in the woods not to far from some neighborhoods and near a fire station. The siren went off and I heard coyotes howling in response not very far away from where I was.
I never rode a bike with a dropper and now I can feel the hype. High end bikes are awesome but you can have just as much fun on a budget bike. Awesome trail ride thanks for sharing 👍
Plenty of snakes in the woods in GA, but in truth I've only seen one when riding. Really it's the Joro spiders that bug me the most, I like to go out really early on Sundays before the family wakes up, and when you're first on the trails in the morning, you tend to run through their webs they string across the trail. They're not poisonous to humans, but they get pretty huge and my bike looks like a Halloween decoration when I finish the ride sometimes. I know I say it a lot Matty, but you have the most beautiful part of the world to ride a mountain bike, and communities that build and support the trails. I'm jealous!
That dust tornado was cool. We have rattlesnakes out in Western Nebraska. I also gotta say thanks for the motivation talk, kinda struggling lately but that was like a breath of fresh air.
I just got done with my ride 2 hours ago. Lots of bugs out. I ate a few. lol. This is my favorite MTB channel. Keep up the good work Matty. And happy birthday
Thank you for the videos - I have been enjoying them. As a kid, we only got the Wal-Mart style of bikes. Mainly riding in the backyard on paved trails, and neighborhood streets and doing the occasional backyard jumps. These are more expensive than I had ever thought of paying for a bike. We got our kids used little bikes to learn on, now we have gotten them a Rosco 24 and Precaliber 24. And now picking up my first Marlin 6 (Red to Black) tomorrow. Next is getting my wife a better bike. She is on a Schwinn hybrid-style bike.
Hi, here in Des Moines we have deer 🦌. Right in town, on the trails, they’ll just stare at you if your on a bike. Maybe they’re intrigued by my reflectors - folks, there’s nothing lame about reflectors and lights if you might be on the road at night, like if you ride to the singletrack.
To keep things short; I just bought this exact same bike and it’s all because of your videos Matty. I love it so far and I appreciate your content in helping make my decision. Subbed and looking forward to future vids. 👍🏼
Been riding the Marlin 6 for about 2 months now. It’s my first mountain bike. It’s great because it’s able to handle a variety of riding conditions. It might not be best suited for extreme MTB trails and drops without rear suspension but it can handle enough for a beginner to grow and not feel limited! Enjoy the content, thanks!
I just started mountain biking 3 months with a Marlin 6. I figure I'll ride it for a year, get some skills, then look into getting a Fuel Ex or something. I don't know how he does wheelies on it so easily.
@@Juggatarian he has some videos on how to do it if you go digging back in the library. Trust me, the guy works very hard and doesn't pay lip service to the idea of not quitting. He just kept at it until he figured it out!
Hey Matty, happy early birthday and awesome video! Good job hitting it on the Marlin. What trailhead did you ride from? This looks like a blast. There's some other good spots up near Fort Collins, you should check out Blue Sky & Indian Summer if you haven't yet.
Regarding wild animals... I meet mooses regularly. Last time he didn't want to move out of the road. I drove slowly and he run to the forrest. But I felt that if he start running to me, my gravel needs to be ready for quick escape :D It was really big creature. Greets from Poland.
Hey dude! Cool videos! I'm going to buy Marlin 6 next week. Waiting for the video about how to install dropper post on Marlin 6 with internal cable routing🔥🔥🔥
You gotta drill a hole! There are some videos of folks trying to run it over the bottom bracket but there isn't enough clearance. The old Marlins and higher end models have a hole in the frame for the cable but the last two years of Marlin 6s do not have it. Trust me I tried looking for a way on my 2022. :( Would be glad to be proven wrong though.
You left the reflectors on but not the bell? Guess that would be going too far :P Got my Trek Marlin 6 last weekend, loving it so far. Thanks for sharing.
I just bought the exact bike you got. Honestly I’m looking for some nice trails just like the one you went on. Got an adrenaline rush just watching!!!! Loved it. What’s your dream bike for trails?
Lol. Rockin reflectors and everything’ funny stuff. I had a marlin 5. I liked it but it was small for me and then I went with a new 2022 giant talon 1 huge difference in comfort. Not knocking marlin bc I liked the marlin too
@@MattyActive yea. If you try it. Try the talon 1. The bars are more comfortable and the pedal strokes are better. Gearing. It’s a different feel from the marlin. And the crotch bar the way it’s welded it gives my comfort and flex on riding. Try it
we have rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bears, black widows and bears where I ride in Los Angeles, California, bro, REMOVE the reflective gear 😁😂🤣, great video, like the shorts, will check out the company.
Put some dropper post, a rockshok and new tires, and you are gonna get a very capable bike for trails. You only are gonna get limited by the geometry and the axle, and your riding skills. Scary anymals there, a cougar? There are people that do not go to the wild without a gun.
I am thinking about getting a marlin 6 with that same paint job. Please let me know if you like this bike a lot. I love your vids just subscribed today!!!
It would help to get some 5lb dumbells or 3lb dumbells and do wrist curls 3x a week so u can build up wrist and fore arm strength and that will help you control the bike better also, and your soreness might be from those muscles not being worked as hard as you are using them now
Is it just me or did you have suspension locked out? I can’t see and movement. Love the vids man! New sub. I just got a marlin 8 and love it. Adding dropper this week

Very cool. I wish I were riding with you. 😎
On our trails we see lots of deer 🦌, foxes and the odd badger.
I would kill to long flowy XC trails like that near me.
that place looks so fun
Awesome video man. That advice you gave in that video made me subscribe. Gonna ride my bike tomorrow here in Florida. Stay safe man 🙏🤙
New here man. Just subbed.
Thank you Alex! Yea polygons are awesome!
That looked great fun!
I love the trek marlin 6. It is also my first bike.
I’ve got trails just outside the city, signs warn you to be on the lookout for bears. I spend more time within the city

what do you do to relieve pressure on wrists/pain in wrists when riding? I feel like I put too much pressure on mine. I have 2022 trek marlin 5
I think the more you ride the more they get used to it and they become less sore. Make sure you’re not gripping the bars too tight.

Happy birthday. What kind of upgrades have you done or plan to on the marlin if any?
Thank you! And No upgrades yet. Plan to do the tires here soon
Which is better marlin 6 or 8
8 for sure but the 6 is awesome for the price
What tires would you recommend for the Marlin 6/29er
I would recommend some maxxis aggressor’s
Hey, I'm changing the 30t to a 34t. Do i need to do anything to the chain?
I’m not sure honestly.
Didnyou ever do it? I want to do the same... Wondering how it worked out for you. Thx
