Greg is such an awesome bonus to the homeskoolin channel. He's a humble genius for sure. Happy father's day to all!
_Gold!_ Sincerest thanks to Mr. Gruhn, Greg Voros, Uncle Larry and the rest of the family at Gruhn's Guitars for allowing us these peeks into the world at the shop and all of the knowledge it makes available to us. I never walk away from one of Tom's "Gruhn's" videos without a few pearls of wisdom and insight into the world of guitars that I love so very much.
I have learned more about proper guitar setup from Greg Voros since Uncle Larry started posting these videos than I have in 30 years of playing guitar. Huge thanks to everyone who made this happen.
Greg is the absolute man. I could listen to him talk guitar all day long and then some.
I love these kinda set up guitar talks with Greg. Always learn somethin' cool
Dear Tom, much love to you for always being so generous by sharing your world with us. Such a blessing and privilege to be a part of all this. Happy Father’s Day to you and all the dad subscribers and/or single moms who bring love and joy to their children.
I think that Fender recommends setting relief between. 008 and .0016. I've been led to believe that's way too much relief, so I've been going for .004 to .006.
That's amazing that Greg Voros goes for .001 to .003.
It's awesome to get tips from a true Top Professional. Thanks again for another great lesson.
Watching Uncle Larry restring a guitar is pure Zen...every time I restring a guitar I try to get as close to pitch as possible befor I put the tuner on
I love these episodes at Gruhns, thank you guys so much. My favorite 'virtual' hang
So educational. Thx!
Awesome. Love these Gruhn episodes.
I love these Gruhn videos!! I always learn something new!!
Watching Greg work is one of the true joys of this channel. What an absolute master craftsman.
I'd love to see him get together with someone like Artistworks or TrueFire to do a masterclass on setup and basic repair. I'd pay handsomely for that shit. I think most Homeskoolers would.
I don't want to see anybody setting up a guitar or basic repairs. I would like to see him level some frets and go beyond basic repairs.
@@stringlocker I get that, but I watched that guy change a set of strings and learned like four things I didn't know previously. At this point, he could do 45 minutes on strap maintenance and I'd be fucking riveted.
A setup does not matter if you have funky frets. If you have a great fret leveling job it doesn't matter how you set it up it will play good for the most part
Happy Father’s Day Tom. Thanks for the wonderful gifts throughout the year.
Loving the Gruhn videos, Tom!
Keep 'em comin'!!
Great tips. Thank you, Uncle Larry.
I love this videos you do with Greg. There is always great information.
I really enjoy these videos, they're a great look into the workings of this stuff.
Thanks for sharing - so interesting to watch these people doing their job!
Such a great video! Thx so much Tom for letting us hang. Happy Dad’s Day!
Excellent. Thanks!!!!!!
You guy are like the Bob Villa and Norm from this old house for guitar. ❤️
Thanks to you and Gruhn for sharing your knowledge and experience. Happy Father's day.
Happy Father's Day Uncle Larry. The utmost respect for all you do for us, and those lucky kids...
That's a gorgeous looking headstock.

Happy Father's Day, Tom! I'm impressed with the tuning by ear...damn on target!
Tom, you sure hang with some great people. Love these field trips.
I've really been enjoying these Class Trips
Happy Dad’s Day, Uncle Larry. Love the way you talk about your children after you drive them to school. It’s a wise and loving dad who appreciates that time spent with them.

Thanks Tom, love the cutting the nut tips Hope you had a great Father's Day w your boys 🍻
Man I really dug this video! Electric to acoustic…perfect! 👍
Happy Father's Day to you Tom and all the dads out there.🍻🤙
Very helpful tip on the nut height, spacing, and backrelief for the strings.👌
Happy Fathers Day Tom!….I really like learning more about how to set up a guitar correctly. Thank you and The Gruhns!
Thanks. I’ve changed strings/ set up a tele 100s of times. Still learnt loads by watching you two.
So glad to have seen Greg again at Guitar Gathering this year. And enjoyed meeting Uncle Larry!
I really appreciate the human factor of your channel. It’s always real recognise real with you - you are exceptional at what you do and surround yourself with people who are exceptional at their craft. The excellence is at a different level. Happy for you man.
I think you nailed it. It's that human factor. It's not a bunch of hype bs. Tom is pretty honest with his opinion on things and I actually really welcome that in these days. Even if I disagree I appreciate a guy who has some conviction. Good stuff bro.
Happy father's day Tom!🎉
Happy Father’s Day uncle. Thanks for all you do 🎉
I’ve never heard of the crimping before you cut the string, love it crucial thanks fellas 🎸🤙🙏
Absolutely love it Uncle Larry. I have a dear luthier friend who worked at Gruhn's decades ago, and i love his stories. Now we get modern stories. Always learn something when you bring Greg on. He is clearly a master. Thanks so much.
Thanks Tom - Happy FD!
Happy Father's Day to you Tom! Another cool vid of just hangin' out with guitars, I was doing some of this yesterday and will be doing a little bit later today. Enjoy your day brother!
❤
Happy Father’s Day again, Tom
Happy Father’s Day guys! Life, guitars and family are all one thing with you guys and it shows in a good way!
Man! Thanks for the tips!!
The original locking tuners, never been bettered in my humble opinion 👌😎
I can't tell you how much I love this shit! I went to a seminar with Steve Morse at one of those ballrooms here in Baltimore. He spent pretty close to an hour on tuning. I tell you, I never forgot it. I was hangin' on every word. The same thing happened here.
Happy Father’s Day Tom. From one dad to another.
Happy Father's Day Tom!
Thanks Greg
Thanks for the insight everybody.
Happy Father’s Day BUK! Happy Father’s Day Homeskoolers!
What’s up Tom!
Beautiful Gibson!! Great info!! No one down here in Mexico to work on my guitars.
Thanks for stringing us along. 😛
Thanks for the High E string tip when restringing✌
Happy Father’s Day Tom, Greg and all the other dads out there from The Pepper family. :)
Looking forward to hearing that Gibson!
Love it. :) I thought this video disappeared for a bit! DR Nickel Rockers used to be my standard strings. The 2-to-an-envelope strings was OK with me: one wound, one plain. I would have to look closely to distinguish the low E and A, and hi E and B, if they were together.
Hey Buko. Happy Father’s Day Bro! Hope you got to spend some good time with the boys.
Your pal in Boston, Darin
I've been wrapping the G B & E with as many wraps as I can to get them anchored real solid for decades, never had a slippage problem. Love that tuner BTW, I have one and its really good.
Happy Father’s Day bro
Great video, but as a machinist of 40 years now, I had to chuckle when he said he was “looking” for .001-.003 clearance. The human hair is .003 thick. If he can visually see .001-.003, he needs to be working in aerospace. 😂
The Admiral came by Gruhn's? So cool!
Nice, I have a '36. It's super lightly built and resonant.
2 days ago i filed nut on my j-45 twelve string. That info was helpful, very timely.
My fav strings these days (on most guitars, not all) are GHS Burnished Nickel Rockers, but before them I used DR Pure Blues. I figured out the “kink the string” thing by trial & error as their main failure point is the wound strings unraveling over time. I like played-in strings and will usually leave a set on ‘til the intonation goes wonky or a wound string wears down and breaks.
🙌🙌
Probably so it's easier to tell em apart ;) Nice guitar.
Hey Uncle Larry! Greatly appreciate everything you do on your channel. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Would you ever consider discussing your approach (or perhaps you dont have one) on maintaining hand/arm health? Appreciated your sentiment on hearing health on one of your earlier videos, thought it would be great to get your perspective on this topic. I've struggled with tennis elbow for years and have always been curious how the y'all session guys keep your arms, hands and wrists healthy.
Some string brands include an extra B and high E strings because we mere mortals often break those ones .
Happy Father's Day Tommy! Drank so much 805 last night passed out on a pool table! I was not taking care of business LOL!
More setup intel we can all use...Gracias!
"David Robinson is NOT a nice man!" 1985 Syracuse mens basketball team. This was a great video.
Well happy gosh dang darn Father’s Day Starship Trooper……
Thank you boys for making my least favorite activity at least look fun...
Happy Father's Day Uncle Larry and ALL the Homeskooler dad's out there👍🍻
On another note the high E on my nocaster rebuild has worn a groove on the high side of the brass saddle of the E&B strings... what's the best way to get rid of that Groove I'm guessing steel wool?
I think DR packs their strings like that so people can differentiate the strings. It’s kind of difficult to get an A string and a B string confused. 🤔 I could be wrong though. Happy Father’s Day gentlemen!
Hey Uncle Larry! I hope you’re having a wonderful Father’s Day! Cheers!🍻
Tom, the UA-cam algorithm has figured me out and suggested some old Wynonna Judd videos when you were playing with her for things like Letterman and awards shows... just curious if you had any favorite moments/events from the mid 90s. Cheers and happy Father's Day!
F-ing FREAKY coincidence because after watching your last video I asked my girl, _I wonder if Tom laces his own strings?_ Now looky here! Nice work.
Someone may have beat me to it, but they package the strings like that so it’s easier to tell which is which. I also am annoyed by it and I don’t think it’s necessary.
Love the videos like this.
Happy Father’s Day folks
Happy Fathers Day Tom!
Are you from WY?
@@tomcoryell no, moved here in 96
Kenny is the best! Done many frets, etc. for me over the years.
