@@thatonekmc small question. Are capacitors worth it? Like i have two reactors on my ship and many capacitors- should i replace them by reactors? Also supership or multiple specialised ships?
@@warbrain1053 Capacitors are only worth it for point defense and a shield that is too far from the reactor. With some exceptions ofc. @@thatonekmc because in my ship, one main and two small reactors and capacitors all over the place i can cover any big demand without draining the reactors and having capacity to take on big demands like shields/engines
@@warbrain1053 I suggest ditching small reactors as soon as you can, combine them into a medium. This is because they don't only increase power but they also allow crew to carry more power. Engines don't need capacitors because the engine room kinda does that for you. As long as you are not using capacitors for main weapons your ships will be decent.
So ive been scouring youtube for these kind of experienced player tip and it is GOLD sir. Stuff like overarmouring and the bed placement was exactly what i was doing, following the power and crew bars closely. Youve helped me immesurably sir.
My key takeaway from this is not to use structures to move the armour out to reduce weight, nor crew management (operators' dorms out of the way), nor use of internal armour to protect yourself when a cannon is destroyed. Nope, it's the fact that YOU CAN CHANGE THE FUCKING MIRROR MODE AXIS DIRECTION. I was getting so frustrated having to handle symmetry on diagonal ships manually... 😕
In the Classic days, before Diagonal Mirror mode existed, I was keeping my Diagonal ships symmetrical by first mirroring the object and then rotating it 90 degrees to the right (This works on North-West axis and if you're building up the left half of the ship first). But yeah, I have to say that the Diagonal Mirror mode is one heck of a Quality of Life feature.
My dude, thank you so much. I started this game yesterday and I was already overwhelmed with all the possibilities of ship design and building, so your videos helped a lot. :) What I struggle a bit with: Lets say you start career mode and do your first missions: How do you expand efficiently? You will not be able to build this ship like that immediately, but you need to grow it bit by bit. How do you do that the best/efficiently? My ships always look like some abominations, haha ^^ Maybe you have some tips for that? I think, personally, this will be the thing that most people will struggle with when they start the game.
I'm making a walkthrough right now to help address that, but yes it is pretty much slapping on parts. If you are running into power issues don't be afraid to use cannons and lasers, since the cannons don't use ammo you won't need to worry about them being close to the reactor. The number one limiter in growth is getting the medium reactor.
The conveyer belts are really good for making an assembly line build for the cannon and cannon ammocrafter, just look at the inside of the space station to get an idea ✌🏽
I liked and sub ! You built in what ... 20 minutes, a better ship than me after hours of refiting my old ship... nicely done. I am going to start over with your advices in mind.
hey new player here, need guidance on weapon synergies, when to upgrade from small lasers to big laser/ is multiple smaller cannons better then larger cannon? any input be great :)
Thank you for this, I rarely see any guides that could fix my problem with larger ships since I love making Capital ships (since most of em are really outdated and some facilities are too different from today like Crew rooms are now had only few doors so placement are cruxial), and compared to Starsector this game is too difficult to fly a big ship since most of the time their speed became the bottleneck. Very helpful guides and I need all of it since my builds always scks at Manueverability and efficiency, also I always looking at the recommended power and crew which is why sometimes I'm seeing Idle crews and worst is power outage on thrusters and shields. Thanks a lot for this.
This channel has led me to make better ships, which has greatly improved my love for this game. Thank you, once again I can't express this enough. Keep it up, I hope your hard work pays off.
By recreating your ship I was able to gete a little bit into your skin, kuddo! I mean this is pretty cool, but what about hyperdrive, and point defense ?
Point defense isn't always needed, perhaps I should have it. A hyperdrive is only needed for career mode. So unless you are doing PVP you should add it.
@@thatonekmc I put one in the bow, man your designe is 300% better than the one I used, soo my oldship is now a cargowhale, and I use your to clear a sector. Thank, would be nice to have some tutorial on some of your design.
@@thatonekmc Thanks! Just "made" my 2nd ship, mining off a little part of my 1st ship lol. Sitting peacefully at the space station for now, with a few factories and all the storage =) This game is nuts
*11:32* Relying on the newly added vector reverse thrust and not putting any backwards-firing engines? Not wise. Otherwise yeah, this ship works perfectly. Another thing though, if your ship has way too much armor on the front, more than it will ever use, I suggest that one puts decorative (And weight-reducing) structures/holes on the SIDES of the armor nose, not the dead center that most of your enemies will be firing through to get to your vulnerable parts.
This vid is really educational, keeping these tips in mind will help me a lot (especially the change mirror axis!). But I have one question (and it's probably stupid lol), how come the first ship you show doesn't have backwards facing thrusters? Is it smart enough to just stop powering thrusters when close to where you want to be during battle?
That ship style needs good speed and would only use reverse for maneuvering, A lot of short range walls use ramming to try spinning enemies and get the weak spots.
i ran into following scenario: i have a battleship, built horizontal, and a scoutship build diagonal. the scout ship exploded, so i experimented arround with explosive charges and rebuild it onto my battleships rear, exploded the charge, recoloured the scout and did the crew management etc. now my diagonal ship flys sideways.... is there an easy way to fix this without rebuilding the ship? like completely convertingthe ship and its movement directions from vertical to diagonal? nevermind i found it out lol flight direction is at the ships hamburger menue and automatically turns arround the build menue too
Once you separate the ships you can click on the little up arrow above the power and crew bars on the right side. In that menu there should be the flight directions. You should be able to change them at any time.
it seems i can only build slope armor, is there some requirement to build non-slope armour? Edit: my bad its at the defenses as per your video and not under structures
Can you make a video about the missile launchers? i want to make a decent long range support ship since i already have a ship that tanks all of the damage from the enemy AI i just need a decent ship that can pound the pirate bases from long range
How did you rotate your screen in build mode? When I build a triangle shaped ship, it seems to think I built it in a "square" shape, so it always flies sideways instead of straight. :(
Push Q and E To make it fly straight you need to change your build direction. There is a little upward facing arrow on the right side of the screen just above where the command points are displayed.
There was some pretty good stuff, change the axis, armor weaving, door and crew management etc. but one thing bothered me :D the first "bad ship design" was so freaking bad, it must have been setup to make everything wrong, correct? Because no one would build it like that! It could be tweaked with some minor adjustments to a okayish ship.
i still don't understand how to build diagonal ships, i don't have the direction option in my game and cannot find how to enable it. like am i just dumb or what?
They measure how important it is to the crew member to do that task. Aka ordering what should be done first. I'll have a vid on this by the end of the week.
A barrage of missiles to the side of the first ship - ammo exploded, engines exposed, shields either damaged or destroyed too. Not that much of a good design, huh

Yeah I'll make one focusing on every weapon type, it might show up in my walkthrough first though because I often put them on cargo ships.
the crew cabins are blocking the easiest way to the back thrusters, anywho, good ship
A laser ship that can only fly forward unable to keep its distance is kind of suicidal tho.
For that tactic, you might want to use cannons.

Yes
why dont you put engines facing forward for braking?
That ship is meant to rush forward as fast as possible and has little need for braking. The side thruster have a little bit of brake power too.

how can it go to hyperspace or other stars without hyperspace module?
No rearwards thrusters?
Not needed for this ship

The annoying thing in cosmoteer is you gotta manually produce things in factories or buy them (ammo and HE missles) in the stations
You can actually set up supply routes so your crew do it automatically. :)
