The turtles will follow the reflection of the moon in the ocean as soon as they are born but now when they are born near a city they will follow the artificial light sources leading to many being ran over by cars or just starving to death
Tbh that's just tragic
Chuck Finley I’m glad to know someone is making something to help them. Thanks for letting me know about that :)
Yeah. And light pollution can also cause cancer of the fingernail. Not to mention lowering the median IQ for the human race.

For *everyone* questioning the clinical depression map at 2:18, there are five significant areas in gray:
- Greenland: it is NOT a country, it is a territory that belongs to Denmark
- French Guiana: also NOT a country, it is a department that belongs to France
- Western Sahara: it is a disputed territory, therefore NOT a country, at least not officially recognized by UN
- South Sudan: a very recent country, there is probably no data yet
- Central African Republic: it is among the ten poorest countries in the world, so probably there is no data either
It seems to me that some islands in Central America are also in gray, probably the ones that belong to European countries (Netherlands, UK, France) and the US (like Puerto Rico)
I see the Milky Way every once in a while
On a clear night
It’s pretty crazy to see
Galaxy brain: Moving to DPRK to watch unpolluted sky
OK
We can still see the Milky Way out here in Colorado
ah yes time to move back to my homeland of alaska
I have always been interested in amateur astronomy. The "darkness" of the sky is rated in a scale from 0 to 9. A type 9 sky is extremely bright like the middle of a downtown big city. A type 0 sky is the most dark, like the middle of the ocean. There are a few place in the US where there are type 0 or 1 skies.
It has been reported that under this kind of dark sky, the planets and Moon are so bright they are an annoyance. And the Milky Way actually casts a shadow! I would love to see that!

How do you find THAT scary?????
I would think a map of human population would be terrifying, especially comparing past present and future. We're adding 83 million people to our plane every year. We can't realistically talk sustainability without talking about population. Also, maps of who has potable water, disappearing forests and natural resources would be so alarming.
Not nearly as bad as you think.
“and it seems that diseases are spreading once again”
Yeah.... well..
It corona time

but it would help to reduce global temperature.
between the land mass is reduced due to flood of global warming (and potentially new war because antartica is now habitable, many country wants that oil) or the risk of starvation, I would prefer the last.
Since you can't grow crops under ocean water. And also politician (the people who hold power of the nation, and oil company) really don't care at all about global warming.
Instead it seems they want to melt the ice of antartica, by ignoring scientists and call them bullshit.

From seeing this myself I'll share my experience. The very first one "Light Pollution" I live somewhere in the eastern USA that isn't even in the red. But, after going out west were there was none and seeing that sky. It is completely amazing and that is an understatement. Just seeing the Milky Way alone was mind blowing followed by the number of stars. You could literally watch a satellite go from one side to the other. The issue there is how many of those will be surrounding our planet one day. Was it Wall-E when they left on the rocket and shot through the layer or "bumper to bumper" satellites? Otherwise was just neat to literally watch one in orbit with nothing but my eyes. Great vid!
The disease map is really interesting now that corona has come around
I'm in zambia right now, there are less than 20,000 reported cases of covid here. No lockdowns, only precautions. Government is very quick to act as people are forced to follow.

But if I don't trust them enough to allow them to pump a genetically altering, barely tested vaccine into my bloodstream I'm an "anti-vaxxer" and now I'm personally responsible for everyone who ever died of covid.
That's not how responsibility works, and it's being pushed by people who refuse to take responsibility for their part in overseeing the response to the virus.
Furthermore, guilt tripping people isn't science.

On the plus side I am no longer a climate denier. After taking part in a study that monitors forest health since 1913 during in the field observations I was confronted with an undeniable trend. Tree rings are getting larger, and Bark Slip Seasons longer, meaning trees are growing faster. When you core a tree that is several hundred or even a thousand plus years this is undeniable. Granted many things influence tree growth but even a laymen can see the trends after coring a few thousand trees. I will let you decide what is causing the earth to get warmer, but make no mistake it is getting warmer.

The vaccine preventable diseases map pisses me off. Vaccinate your kid. If they can't be vaccinated because of health reasons, urge everyone else to vaccinate. I live in Australia, and if my kid dies from whooping cough or some crap that could have been eradicated if everyone vaccinated, I will go on a rampage.
@GLITTER BLITZ vaccines are basically modified versions of diseases that can't harm you so your immune system knows how to deal with the actual disease.
@GLITTER BLITZ That's not how vaccines work, they're not meant to prevent but to strengthen your immune system. Vaccines work by showing your immune system some part of a virus that is either dead, disabled or even just a strand of it, it's rare for it be alive though some vaccines do have but of course the virus has been severely modified to an extent where it cannot function to do what it wants.
Vaccines like measles vaccine are 97% effective, meaning you have a 3% chance of catching measles BUT at the bright sight if you do become that unfortunate 3% then the virus' damage is very minuscule compare to if you would not be vaccinated. Oh and if you are not vaccinated against measles you have a 90% chance of getting infected within 1 hour and have very dire consequences, such as death.

I think the vaccine maps is the most terrifying
It's certainly interesting how creators of this video didn't thought that the biggest migration movement in history, which recipient was the United States wasn't scary at all.
It's also interesting how anti-vaxxers in Europe get all the blame for dramatic increase in measles cases, even though millions of people of certain origin, where the disease is not eradicated in the least bit moved to Europe. Surely if Europeans are to blame for bringing diseases to America and that way eradicating 90% of indigenous people there, Africans that are moving into Europe would share some of the blame but somehow someway this aspect of the problem is not brought to light at all.
It is there fucking fault there's a measles outbreak prick
