Belle mise en scène très esthétique.
I know that there is a lot of criticism about the staging, but I actually really liked it. of course it's very big and very dramatic, but I think it fits the music. The old Italian Opera Seria is made to be grand and dramatic. This gives the endless aria's a wonderful, fitting background that sometimes manages to make the music more meaningful. I was especially touched by Unolfo's aria in the second act. The stargazing was a wonderful touch.
Wonderfully sung by especially the main characters and a great performance overal. I very much enjoyed it!
I saw both productions, French and German. It's a terrible and violent family story, in which a child has monstrous nightmares, because his childhood has been stolen... The artists are fantastic: tyranny, power, hope and love are wonderfully rendered. The French interpretation (Lille) is less violent than the German (Frankfurt), much harsher, but very good too... question of culture!
Thanks for uploading. Watched this on Spanish TV back in 2020 and had been looking for it since then. Love it!

Wonderful music and with very good performances, but a pity about the terrible staging!
I was there, and while staging was fine to me, the conducting wasn't. Ivor Bolton is something far a baroque musician
