- In this video I discuss the details of my new book titled "Mike Ben's Guide to The Spanish Language". Early in the Spanish learning journey I noticed that many topics were overly explained or explained in ways that were not intuitive for native English speakers. I aways thought that my fate would have me teaching Spanish in classes but earlier this year I decided to begin writing a book that I thought would be helpful for those that are learning Spanish. I dedicated the time and money to actually doing so and the result is here. I am currently in Ch. 5 of this book. I got it mostly because it is from a non-native speaker and the reviews mentioned how it simplifies things for learners. It is definitely that! I’ve actually replaced my previous textbook with this one. The sentences make more sense than other textbooks, and are more realistic. I love it so far!

Wow... I've only just discovered you today but you immediately struck a chord with me. I'm a teacher too, and I find myself rambling using a ton of words when explaining things too... I'm not so insecure about it anymore, but I used to be so it's a gift to discover another with the same characteristic.
Thank you for this book and video. To not only write a book for us to cut the fat from the entire journey you've taken, but also to assemble a compilation video reminiscing it... what a gift. All the videos you had to store, and organize, and re-pull... and then organize it into a beautiful video for all of us to enjoy - all without asking for anything in return but feedback ❤️

I love this bro the emphasis on the “English equivalent to Spanish” that’s what I been struggling with not knowing and sometimes not being sure how I should use certain words and phrases and the context of what is being said I find myself knowing what is being said but not exactly what context it’s being used
I hope it helps and I know exactly what you’re referring to. I’m shocked others haven’t addressed those equivalents before.

I’m in the beginning level. Been learning and teaching myself on and off for the past few years but really this last few months of this year I’ve been more serious I’m now paying for a tutor on italki. I purchased the madrigals magic key to Spanish book and I’m looking to make some new friend who speak Spanish so I can have someone to comfortably practice with. Been watching your journey for a while brother and I will be buying your books as well. I just started my italki classes last week and staying consistent with my learning plan I hope to be fluent by next year. Some books I would recommend from the 1990s are: Just Listen and Learn Spanish and Spanish for Gringos. I’m enjoying your book. One thing I would mention if you do a rewrite is talking about the weather. I was corrected by a Mexican. If it’s hot outside you say, Hace calor. You do not use the word caliente. It means you are hot/sexually aroused.

Hey Mike, you almost live as far out in the sticks as I do. Georga vs Alabama, lol. Just so you know you are helping me understand the why of Spanish but not really the how. I'm 58 so not even sure it's possible with my memory at this age. I was born in Spain but left at 2 so other than that I'm not even sure why I want to learn. I feel like a two year old with this. Where do you even start? And is it even possible to learn at my age. And don't let the bull knats tote you off they are terrible here on the water in my houseboat, lol. I want to get your book but I live on a very small budget.
You are a young man in the language learning world Dan. I’d recommend watching my video titled “How I learned Spanish in Less than s year”. That will give you a great foundation. From there you should watch my video titled “how I learn Spanish vocabulary without Duolingo or flashcards”. Those should get you off to a great start! Espero que te sirvan!
Hey Mike, I just watched an interview you did on another UA-cam channel. Excellent interview. Your Spanish is so good! Definitely goals. I am 2 months behind you in my Spanish learning. I was able to understand the entire interview but I’m not nearly as fluent as you in my speech.
Quick question. You mentioned that Steve Kaufman has helped you a lot. Did he help you through his UA-cam content or have you used Lingq? If so, are you still using it?

It is available on amazon in the UK I recieved my copy last week. Excellent book. There are pieces in there that I missed when learning certain concepts first time around, this book has taught me them easier than a Spanish book written by a Spanish native speaker could.
