    Hahaha! Never thought about slowing it down until you talked about the “3 dots” tabs....hit it at half speed right before you said “sometimes it’s really funny listening to me talk in slow motion”. Talk about great timing. Loving the videos by the way, my buddy Don C. told me about you and got me to buy my first banjo. Glad I did!

    Man I was wondering where you have been, been thinking of you lately jim! Ive already got this one but I have always loved this tune. Hope all is well up there! Ive been playing banjo lately but ive been on more of a cigar box guitar building kick lately. Got one in gonna try some new ideas on :) should be fun! I plan to turn one into a banjo one day, not sure how it will do but we shall see!

    There’s a way to slow these videos down when learning, when u watch these on the firestick, you hit a button and a menu pops up, when it does you have the option to rewind, pause or whatever, there is a symbol there that looks like a cruise control symbol, click that then you have the option to slow these way down

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  3 роки тому +1

      Yup, you can slow them down on mobile and in the web browser too.

    Hey Jim, thanks for the John Hardy lesson I'll get to it ASAP.
    The type of strap I have is a shop-bought one for a guitar. I had to cut it down as it was a tad on the wide side and have it set up cradle fashion. I mean it works OK, but that example from John-Scott Pipke does look real sweet. With Christmas just around the corner, I think I'll throw some hints at the bride and see what happens. 😉

    Jim, thank you for your passion and tireless banjo knowledge sharing but I'm kind of disappointed that tab I've purchased are inaccurate. It would be nice to have a choice to buy tabs for beginners or as you play.

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  4 роки тому

      The tabs for the songs I’ve added tabs for are pretty accurate. They’re more accurate than the Scruggs book, so I can’t do much better than that.
      But the big step you need to make is to really really really try to learn this stuff without the tabs. The info is all there in the video. Take your time, slow it down, and I bet you’ll surprise yourself.
      Also, if you’re able to spot an inaccuracy in the tab, then you really don’t need the tab.

    • @Bordo430
      @Bordo430 4 роки тому

      @@JimPankey for example second measure: you play in a C-chord 2---2-1-5-2-1-5 and second is hammer on. But tabs has 1-2-3-1-5-2-1-5

    Hey Jim! Fun little ditty I'll have to dive into later...wife's sleeping now...heh. Question without taking up too much of your time...are there any tips on mastering...or even getting kind of good at the different picking finger styles/techniques? I followed the "Cripple Creek" lesson and learned those fingering lessons, but like with this song there are many different plucking variations. Should I just work hard to remember thumb is mainly for the bass(3/4) and filler 5th, middle is for 2/3, and ring is 1? Is there anything fun I could do to learn this better and easier? I find myself, as a guitar player, being able to fret easily...but I'm fumbling a lot with my picking. Thanks!

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  5 років тому +2

      The best thing I can tell you is to take a couple of different patterns and get comfortable with them where you can switch back and forth without thinking about it. Once you're comfortable with that, then add another pattern/roll.
      I would never suggest relegating certain fingers to certain strings, as that's just setting yourself up for problems down the road. It's most important just to grind away the hours working on the patterns and "trusting" that they'll work.
      How long with that take? I'm guessing longer than you're expecting if you're already looking for a "trick" to get better. The trick is practice and a lot of it. :)
      You can do it!

    Hey Jim,
    I’m really getting into bluegrass banjo thanks to you. I enjoy tinkering with my cheap bottle cap banjo (insert joke here) as much as playing. I recently put a new Fiberskyn head on & now the bridge Is more prone to sliding around a bit. Is this normal or should I do something short of buying a better banjo to correct this? Perhaps you can recommend as couple of web resources for banjo setup that won’t get me into too much trouble?
    Thanks for your wonderful work.
    I consider it an honor to learn from you.

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  5 років тому

      The fiberskyn heads are just slick. Best advice is try not to bump the bridge. Mark where it goes to make it easy to slide back in place.
