I visited the Nikon Museum back in 2016 and it looks like the collection has grown a bit. I remember asking the young lady there about the Nikon FTN NASA camera and if it was an actual flown model. The tag at that time didn't mention Apollo 15. She went off to ask somebody "upstairs" and came back to tell me the person who knows for sure wasn't there that day. It's nice to see that the tag now says that it was. Thanks for the look inside. I plan to visit again when all this COVID craziness passes. And I'm one of those guys who like to scuba dive and still have my Nikonos V that I bought new up here in Aomori back in 1996. I totally agree with you about the look and feel, it's even better underwater!

Loved seeing the old Nikon rangefinder cameras. When I was a kid, an older cousin came back from military duty in Japan and gave me a Nikon S rangefinder. I have been a Nikon fan ever since then. I have owned other brands, but always come back to Nikon.

I use to own a Seiki Kogaku S-I at 3:23...miss that camera. I even got a hand drawn done in map to Seiki Kogaku's factory in 1945 (3rd stop from Shibuya) .
I've had several Nikons over the years including an FM, F3, 8008, and a Nikonos V. The Nikonos was a fantastic boat, beach and diving camera, but it also took great photos just about anywhere else. If I was going to Burning Man and planning to shoot film, I would take a Nikonos. Thanks for taking us on a tour of this museum. Now I want to go see it.
WOW! I was blown away with all gear that Nikon has actually made. Seeing this makes me want to go to TOKYO and visit the Nikon Museum once we come through this pandemic. I would probably spend a whole day there, so I would need a packed lunch....lol

Giving the Nikon F801 a bit more time and attention felt kind of heartwarming for me simply because it has become my favourite film camera. "But why the F801 if there are many other great Nikon cameras" someone night ask... Well, it was the first camera my dad bought after Germany re-united with the GDR and also the last one he used before he died back in 2000. Thank you!

I generally like all things photographic especially film cameras so this museum would be a mecca for photography nuts for sure. I started out with Nikon my very first film SLR camera was a Nikon FM with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI lens. This after much deliberation, studying of camera specs, and talking to knowledgeable folks about photo gear. Since then I've added an F (circa 1971), Nikkormat FT2 (1975), and FG (1985) and more Nikkor lenses. I also have a Pentax Spotmatic it too is a good camera but Nikon remains my favorite. I ever get to Japan I'll have to visit the Nikon Museum.

The AW1 they kind of tried but it was pretty rubbish. I would say with housings the way they are they would just prefer others to take the risk. Surely they could make a superior version of the Olympus TG-6 with a nicer lens and slightly bigger sensor.
The big fish eye lens is rumored to be the most expensive lens they made, it was also the red glowing circle Hal 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey. I spend a good half day there and really enjoyed it. There's also the JCII Camera Museum, but they are opened only on select days and I don't think they allow filming, but they have a much better collection of historical cameras and the whole history of the gold "Quality" seal that use to be on cameras in the 1990's. They also have one of the world's first cameras from France. www.jcii-cameramuseum.jp/top-e/ Canon's museum is just next door to Nikon, but there's not much there to see, left after about 5 minutes.
If you can house that contraption @13:45 in your living room in Tokyo, you are very rich indeed. Seriously, do you recommend budgeting 2 hours, or more, to visit this museum?
It's not about promotion it's about genuine value. Their mirrorless cameras are overpriced without justifiable reason. Like they don't have to fight to keep up with the market. Sony has amazing line-up of original and third party lens line-up, and they are pushing things forward in every respect despite having the most limiting mount. Canon? It's just there, they have resources and trusted clients, R5 and R6 are finally competitive high end cameras, their lens line up is more impressive, and still they have full compatibility with EF lenses. Nikon is just there standing, waiting, teasing another overpriced camera, and they still want everyone to be excited with Noct 58 0.95 - Ok, Nikon Leica made that many years ago. They screwed many pro users by not making adapter to support older AF lenses or auto diaphragm with even older excellent manual lenses - it's all possible, but they just don't give a shit about it.
Nice plays to be for sure. But they should take care a bit more about correct names (or rather correct spelling) in a museum: The Hermes ist not a "Tesser" type, it's a "Tessar" type probably. ;)

I know that digital isn't your bag, but I'm sad you didn't mention the Nikon DF. A very excellent digital camera, made in a classic style.
