Count Dankula is a Scottish shitposter who started a series a while back called “Absolute Mad Lads” where he talks about batshit crazy people from history or recent events. His most recent mad lad was this guy. That series is absolute gold. I would recommend the episode on Killdozer. 10/10 👌

Worth noting that Japanese bath water is relatively clean, usually.. You wash yourself off before you get into the bath. That sounds weird but remember that normal Japanese baths are meant to be shared, the big public ones, but even at home you make the bath once for the whole family, then people take turns taking a bath. You pour water over yourself outside of the bath, use soap and whatever, then wash that off, then you go in the bath. Depends as modern bathrooms are not always traditional, imported "Western Style" furniture and house designs are increasingly common, but potentially the bathwater was almost clean.

Yes, a lot of them were still affected and even permanently disabled, but only 12 dead out of around 6000 poisoned? That’s insane!

The story of this cult is so fascinating. Thank you for a nice rundown of the story of Aum Shinrikyo. I also think about the executions of the cult leaders. What were going true their minds when they met their faith? It’s just so crazy.

By the way: Shoko Asahara was a good friend of the beloved Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. The Dalai Lama even wrote recommendations for Asahara and AUM. (I happen to have authentic copies of those writings right here. So it is not at all a conspiracy theory.)

To anybody interested, the influence and terror of Aum and Asahara is still not yet gone. On January 1st, a car driven by a 21 year old supporter of the cult dove into Harajuku’s busiest shopping district of Takeshita Street. 9 people were injured and 1 was in critical condition. A tank of Kerosene was found in the vehicle and traces of the chemical was found on the clothing of the attacker, and the police assumed that the attacker intended to light the vehicle on fire, causing more damage. Fortunately the fire didn’t happen and nobody died, but when he was captured he proclaimed that he conducted a terror attack in retaliation to the death penalty and later claimed to be a member of the cult. Now considering the fact that in 2018, all people executed were high level Aum Shinrikyo members including Asahara, it’s not surprising to assume he did this attack in retaliation for the cult, although some investigators are considering whether or not he actually attacked for the group. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported thus far and many Japanese seemed to not care about these fanatic idiots much, as thousands of Japanese later visited the nearby Famous Meiji Shrine, to pray for a good year; a thing that happens every year in Japan.
This attack that I heard of in Japanese news was shocking to me at first and worrisome as I graduated from a nearby university last March and I had a lot of dear friends in the local area. It also was shocking for me as I spent my New Years often in harajuku and omotesando area to party and drink with my peers. Fortunately nobody I knew was hurt, but it was upsetting at first that a nobody from Aum in Osaka drove up to Harajuku Tokyo and intended to kill en masse.
Well that’s my two cents, awesome content as always!

You did pretty well on the pronunciations this time, man. Just remember, the whole language is fundamentally phonetic: it’s spelled like it sounds and it sounds like it’s spelled :)
And yes, my Japanese wife and I had a moment of respect for all of Aum’s victims the day they announced his execution. America barely blinked, but there it was momentous and a fitting end to the man.
