Thanks, glad you like the video. The mount is super low-tech - sorry I don't have a photo but many ski/board backpacks these days have a shovel holder on the side, just two straps holding the shovel handle vertically. My camera is on a pole so I slip the pole into the shovel handle. I wrap some tape around it to hold the pole steady. There are other ways to mount it too but my way makes it easy to set up and take down.
As of last season, this area has been closed off to sleds FOREVER. The area is called Sproatt/Rainbow Maountain and was accessible from Brandywine parking lot. But just like Callaghan Lake a few years ago, Sproatt is now off-limits to motorized vehicles. Damn!
The area is closed because the watershed (the area all water flows to) is used as a source of drinking water for a part of Whistler. A small fuel or oil leak would ruin the drinking for many people for a long time.
Thanks for your comments REDROC44. Yes, I agree...there's probably more oil spilled on the streets of our city from the cars and trucks in one day than all the oil from sleds and dirtbikes in their lifetime.
@armadatilem my backpack mount is simply the handle of an avalanche shovel in its holder on the pack (so the open end of the shovel handle is pointed up). The camera pole slides right into the shovel. If you have an email address, I can email you a photo.
I'm just so fed up with the BS surrounding the removal of snowmobiles from riding areas for "the sake of the public and environment". Be it some endangered species, watershed, wilderness recommendations... all emotional environmentalism squarely not based on facts. I am an avid dirt biker and I can see some summertime trails being closed since some jerks want to tear up the area "just because", but we are 8-10 FEET above flora/fauna doing zero damage. It's the lowest impact mechanized sport.
This simply is NOT true. The amount of dilution among the BILLIONS of gallons of snow-water-equivalent is such that standard air pollution from cars and coal fired power plants deliver extremely larger particulate levels. Snowmobiles and winter enthusiasts contribute a negligible level of pollution and disturbance to the watershed. We should start calling this what is really is: environmental elitism. Certain groups don't like what other groups do and use the environment as a proxy to stop them.
Damn thats some deep snow, GREAT footage!
Remarkable video. Thanks for sharing it.

cool video
is that sled to big fro you lean into it big boy
Could go give me more informations by PM about your homemade backpack mount ?
True or not it is the reason the area is closed.
I have a Polaris mountain sled and its an 800cc
where can i find a good mountain sled for about 5k
how big 800?
I know it´s a Summit 144. but is it a 600? 800? 04? 05?
try craigslist but fat chance for 5k you could get like a 2000 RMK
why would they close such a beutiful place
If I were to hit that much powder with my 550f I would be stuck within seconds.
what kind of snowmobile?
