It's actually very interesting, these plays represent how Charlie saw the world and the people she new (Maxwell and Winona for example) and how she accepted being the queen of the constant
It's interesting to see Charlies "perspective" of the events leading to Don't Starve as well as Don't Starve Together. I understand most scenes and what event they represent. For those who haven't seen all animations/ comics: The doll (Charlie) meeting the king (Maxi) and wanting to learn magic from him (as his stage assistant), she discovered his hidden room (seen in a comic) in which she learns his 'secret' to his magic. The king "flees" (actually Maxi and Charlie get pulled into the Umbrex book by shadow hands in the last performance Maxwell and Charlie give) and Charlie is following the survivors Max lures into the constant to find the throne and take it for herself. This is how she ended up being queen. Even though we see Max "dying" (he turns into dust as he is freed from the throne) he gets "reborn" in the constant (like Wilson does when he dies) and meets Wilson there. After some time they join forces and build a rigged portal (probably in hopes of escaping the constant) but Charlie is taking the portal over turning it into the florid postern and joining all survivors (who until this point where in seperate constant worlds) into the same (dialog with the mirror from the play is hinting that she did this in hopes of "repairing the mirror") We don't know yet what exactly the mirror stands for and what it means to repair it. It's likely that the mirror represents 'Them' in some form. Also interested is to get a glimpse into the interaction between "the mirror" and Charlie. Up until know we only knew that Charlie found Max's hidden room, was shocked and scared by it and fled his appartment, in the comic showing this there was nothing hinting that Them already started to influence Charlie. But what I don't understand is the very beginning. The doll coming to live is Charlie being born, the blacksmith wanting to protect her is Winona taking care of her baby sister, but why is the protection (symbolized by the armor) of Winona shattering Charlie? What does that mean? Was Winona overprotective and it shattered Charlie's self-esteem? Or what is this supposed to mean? I am very intrigued in future speculation videos of our fellow content creators of how this scene is to be read :D Also thanks to Catperson for posting the whole play! :)
Wait if this incomplete update is about charlie and there still no reward for fi finishing thr play could it be Are we nearing the end of the current dst story
I don't think the mirror represents Them. I think it represents a survivor, of a sort, of the ancient race that lived in the constant that made the ruins and archive. There is a big connection between them and magic. With the ancients learning how to use the fuel from Them. The Them that we have seen so far are the celestial Lords. With their titles hinted at in the updates. The first was the Lord of forbidden knowledge, who is the source of all the tentacles and represents the purple gem as well as the one of the phases of the celestial champion. The second is the celestial Lord of forgotten knowledge and it the moon Lord. With his gem being the moonstone used to unlock the archive. The last Lord hasn't been revealed yet but judging by the information gained by the celestial champion my bet would be that it is the sun itself.

so we can all agree this is charlie's retelling of all that's happened, right? porcelain doll/the queen: charlie the blacksmith: winona the king: maxwell the mirror: "Them" the fools: all the other survivors i won't retell the story with this contextualization because someone else in the comments already has, but it's definitely an interesting development. what is charlie trying to do by telling her story to the survivors? (also, two lines i found particularly amusing were the king/maxwell going "you wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?" considering by the time he became maxwell and met charlie, he had ditched the glasses, and the fool saying "suddenly i feel like i'm being shadowed." ha ha, dual meaning of shadowed.)
So many names with a leading W, all of them taking an L Meanwhile a doll with a leading C has herself draped in Ws All up until the point, the shadow portal/mirror is repaired and the true battle with Them can start.
Cool note about the script/strings for the game: There's some dialogue that seems to appear if you have certain characters watch the play: End of Act 1 Scene 2: Winona: "Sis... are you tryin' to tell me something?" End of Act 2 Scene 1 Maxwell: "Is that really how she remembers it?" End of the Reunion between the Queen and the Blacksmith: Winona: "No way, it can't just end like that!" Also, a brief note if you look at Wes' section of the non-costume character dialogues: "Essayez-vous comprendre mes pensées?" "Ah, comme c'est gentil à vous!' "Je suis flatté. :)" (Are you trying to understand my thoughts? Ah, how nice of you! I am flattered. :) )

This feels very much in the same spirit as old dont starve to me, the macabre backdrop, gathering of these very specific and time period appropriate items needed for a play, and the fact they the survivors need to willingly surrender themselves to Charlie's influence so she can direct her theater play, having their bodies pulled by strings of shadow. All this recent stuff with the ocean, I mean I liked shipwrecked as much as the next guy, but you gotta admit, these recent updates dont exactly feel like Dont Starve, all the new lore with the moon, Pearl's quests, the addition of monkey pirates with wooden swords, it's all just a bit too... bright? The book on the setpiece will tell which roles have to be in play. Each role has a different costume, the doll, the blacksmith, the king, etc. There's a separate setpiece where you can find grass-hounds that you kill for the other costumes. They respawn every day. Get the right costumes for the act (told by the book) and check the book again for the next act when that one is over with.

what i really think is that this is the past, before willson came to the constant, and how it all starts. It can also be seen as what happened with maxwell, willson and charlie. But it seems more like what happened with these 3, is just history repeating itself.

Fool: Cheer-a-lee, cheer-a-lone,
the King's so glum upon his throne!
Cheer-a-loo, cheer-a-lay,
he's sent for fools, to watch us play!
from far and wide he's called us there,
we'll perform for the one who sits on the chair!
Doll: The King has grown bored, has he?
Perhaps he's grown careless as well.
If I follow these fools,
they might lead me straight to him...
Foll: How strange, I suddenly feel like I'm being shadowed.
It's probably nothing!
10:44-12:16 Final Act, Scene 2
Bird One: Act 3!
Bird Two: Scene 2!
Portal: Though the journey was lang.
it was just as the doll had predicted.
the doll followed the fool
all the way to the King's throne room.
careful to keep out of sight.
King: Fool!
It took you long enough!
I'd grown weary of waiting.
Fool: My King!
Allow me to entertain you with my merry foolery!
Whoops-!
King: Nooooo!
Portal: In their excitement.
the clumsy fool knocked the King from his throne.
It seemed that the years
had not been kind to the King.
for when he hit the floor,
his frail body burned to dust.
Fool: Oh... I suppose I'm the King now!
Doll: There's been a fool on the throne long enough.
perhaps what this kingdom needs...
is a Queen.
Bird One: The special effects are getting better.
Bird Two: Wish I could say the same for the actors.
Both Birds: HA HA HA HA HA!
12:17-13:40 Final Act, Final Scene
Bird One: The final scene!
Bird Two: Of the final act!
Both Birds: Finally!
Doll: It is as you said, mirror.
I've become so much more than I ever dreamed...
but why do you remain broken?
Mirror: Alas.
I was shattered long before I met your king.
Even with his power,
I cannot be restored.
Doll: I made you a promise, mirror,
and I will see it through.
I will find the power to fix you
and repay you for all you've given me.
Portal: And so,
with the treacherous King gone and forgotten,
the little doll became a just and formidable Queen.
the people rejoiced across. the land,
and the magic mirror knew
They had finally found the one who would set Them free.
Bird One: I love a happy ending.
Bird Two: I'm just happy it ended.
Both Birds: HA HA HA HA HA!
13:41-14:27 Act 1, Scene 2 as Queen
Bird One: "The Reunion"
Bird Two: Ooooh, sounds juicy!
Portal: The Blacksmith had been searching for the doll,
and at last her journey came to an end.
Blacksmith: Little doll, is that really you?
How you've changed...
Doll: It is me,
but I am not the little doll you once knew.
you were right, Blacksmith.
The world is too dangerous for one made of porcelain.
But you need not fear for me anymore.
Now I'm made of something stronger.
Bird One: Oh, I was wondering what happened to the blacksmith.
Bird Two: It's nice to have closure.
14:28-14:52 Tree
Bird One: "Ode to the Scenery"
Bird Two: Oh, this is going to be good.
Portal: The tree stood alone.
In resoluble silence.
Not doing much of anything.
Bird One: That was my favorite act so far.
Bird Two: Bravo! Bravisima!
{The curtains closed}
bro take a break
You deserve a medal
I might suggest this to my brother's middle school as a play.
Я не знаю зачем. Но спасибо
13:23 Is that a capital lettered Them i see here?
Well, now we know Charlie's objectives ^^
so we can all agree this is charlie's retelling of all that's happened, right?
porcelain doll/the queen: charlie
the blacksmith: winona
the king: maxwell
the mirror: "Them"
the fools: all the other survivors
i won't retell the story with this contextualization because someone else in the comments already has, but it's definitely an interesting development. what is charlie trying to do by telling her story to the survivors?
(also, two lines i found particularly amusing were the king/maxwell going "you wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?" considering by the time he became maxwell and met charlie, he had ditched the glasses, and the fool saying "suddenly i feel like i'm being shadowed." ha ha, dual meaning of shadowed.)
my eyes widened when i realised what this is about, i asume the mirror is the portal in the atrium, maybe it's tricking charlie into fixing it.
Nope the mirror is them
So many names with a leading W, all of them taking an L
Meanwhile a doll with a leading C has herself draped in Ws
All up until the point, the shadow portal/mirror is repaired and the true battle with Them can start.
Huh I didn’t know Shakespeare was still alive… and playing video games of all things!
I'm so excited about the full update because of the QOL and because the Maxwell update could get quite interesting in a few months!
Can't wait for modders to hack in plays for Shrek and Bee Movie.
Or that one DS creepypasta
The bee movie play should just be the entire script
Cool note about the script/strings for the game:
There's some dialogue that seems to appear if you have certain characters watch the play:
End of Act 1 Scene 2:
Winona: "Sis... are you tryin' to tell me something?"
End of Act 2 Scene 1
Maxwell: "Is that really how she remembers it?"
End of the Reunion between the Queen and the Blacksmith:
Winona: "No way, it can't just end like that!"
Also, a brief note if you look at Wes' section of the non-costume character dialogues:
"Essayez-vous comprendre mes pensées?"
"Ah, comme c'est gentil à vous!'
"Je suis flatté. :)"
(Are you trying to understand my thoughts?
Ah, how nice of you!
I am flattered. :) )
Those mask are quite literally the most terrifying thing i have seen
Clear my djb have never seen Ur own mother before haha sender was so scary when we were win the. Bed 8 month ago btw how r u gon the phone so early I need to tell her that it's unhealthy for someone so young to use phone bruh

Why hello there
@@bluemoth6983 Hello, Blue.
All this recent stuff with the ocean, I mean I liked shipwrecked as much as the next guy, but you gotta admit, these recent updates dont exactly feel like Dont Starve, all the new lore with the moon, Pearl's quests, the addition of monkey pirates with wooden swords, it's all just a bit too... bright? If that makes sense?
Yeah i know what you mean.I had the same thing in my mind.Dont starve gives off a darker separate theme compared to dont starve together.Sometimes i even go back to dont starve to this day sometimes with dlc
Ode to the Scenery has been the best play out of all of them, thank you for blessing us viewers with such display of magesticness and beauty of nature!
This is is obviously the story of charlie, since she meets Maxwell until she takes control of the constant, we know who each character represents, each except the broken mirror
The broken mirror is them
I'd love to see the character specific plays like Maxwell's or Wigfrid's or even others like Wendy, Wert, Wilson, or Wortox.
Wert💀💀
Honestly i feel like they could easily add to this and expand the lore as new updated come out.. at least that's what I'm hoping for
Wonder what would happen if Wes is the performer
the mockingbirds will probably mock even harder
Not now, bun bun. This is the theatre.
doll = charlie
king = maxwell
blacksmith = winona
fool = wilson
mirror = the shadows
that is what i seem to get from it
Damn they did wilson dirty
It's always cool to get more stuff relating to Charlie
Wow, it looks so perfect!
So Charlie is warming up with the survivors huh? Even giving some useful supplies just for acting her stories.
I love the masked birds and their commentary
I wanna see if Wes can do this!
Pretty sure he was on a couple of the scenes
You're missing one: there is one for the king, solo
How can one see it?
@@nathaliareis1618 You have to perform with the king costume complete, alone
When I did it I had completely all the other canon acts, I don't know if this is required
Maybe something special happens if you play the intended character for each costume
Those two birds remind me of Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets.
juicy lore right here folks
Epic strat to put the video out before everyone else
2:02 grass gecko
Okay so this stage appearing the lore for dst in wierd way and nothing happens apon finishing it
And with its look and the look of the wierd hounds that show up and the fact there stage hands I think this isn't just going to give us lore but also might lead to charlie but hey you never know might just be something klei put in for fun
WAIT I DIDNT KNOW THIS IS A REAL SOON TO COME UPDATE!!! HOLY SH-
That capital T "Them" at the end hit different
So "Them" was "broken" even before Maxwell
from the ancients if I had to guess
Me at act 3 scene 2: this is bait Charlie isn’t it?
did you try an act with the king and the queen, maybe?
will this be in my old world when the update goes live?
The birds look like hollow knight characters
can you write down the summon command for blacksmith's costume? i just can't find it and tired of grinding for it
how do you guys move the mannequin to the platform I havent been ablo to move it or put it into my inventory etc
how to make a mannequin?? I wonder what the reward is
Top tier update.
Very linked to the moon quay update i see
Yo can u get the turf for our own builds???
Yes. Klei is adding those turfs, the ruins ones and a few more*
But this is only on the beta branch yet
@@CatPersonDST I'm aware of the ruins turfs but I read nothing about those. Those will make a nice addition to some builds that I'll probably revisit
@catperson you should make a vid on character specific stage acts
I cant find any video on it, and you would be the first
How did you get all the other costumes? i attack the rose bush hound things and they only give me 3-4 outfits. i can't find the others anywhere
Especially the mirror
@@themediacandy The briar respawns every day. Gotta keep killing them until you get all outfits
where is the briar is in a separate biome?
@@CatPersonDST ohhh i guess i was being impatient. thanks so much! great video!
@@zach202359 it’s usually fairly close to the stage play, at least by what i’ve seen
Birds best character.
May I ask how you got it to play them? When I try it only does the character speeches
Ah, I may just have to reload the world, my stage had no book
I wonder if the tree has a meaning xd
the blacksmith has to be winnona
hhh, as nice as this is there really ought to be a version with other characters, the preformance is hurt with only one true actor
We tried it with other people (and characters) playing the different roles on the stream, the only difference is that speaking sound/instrument each character has
Every character had a unique play when interacting with the stage without costumes, but it's mostly poems and a few jokes
@@CatPersonDST nice! it's mostly just the fact that the mannequins in the play dont have voices and dont emote like an actual actor, yknow? it's small it just bugs me a bit really
it would just be cool if like, you had a version where it's like, winona playing blacksmith and maxwell playing the king and wilson playing the fool and etc etc, yknow? just would be cool
@@CactusCompanion who would play the doll? I think Willow or Wendy
what i really think is that this is the past, before willson came to the constant, and how it all starts.
It can also be seen as what happened with maxwell, willson and charlie. But it seems more like what happened with these 3, is just history repeating itself.
anywhere I can find the transcript
yknow i shouldn't be asking for shakespeare in like a bit of side content, but i wish the writing was a bit more interesting
the tree bit is funny though, i like that
now do the ones for characters
oooh that's ominous
i think your harp broke
at least klei might give us some points...
it's still beta, they give out points in the actual update
nice stream, and nice vid as always, "dress me as a doll C-catperson-senpai 😳"

Im still sceptical about this update for now. Maybe more content will come in the beta later
well you can get free stuffy by performing without any costumes
Nice
is it a modification?
No
What exactly is the purpose of this? Is it a minigame? Setting the stage update? Neither and just weaving lore into actual gameplay?
it's just lore but doing the performances can net you some extra resources from briar hounds that spawn
Is this a mod?
No
Can't believe they added charlie propaganda films into this game
