    Definitely add the butter!!

    Great comparison study. And yes, butter makes it better! I am betting that the difference between the all purpose flour and the self rising flour, other than the salt, is the type of wheat used. Around here, Indiana and Kentucky, self rising flour is made with a soft wheat which has a lower protein content. All purpose flour is usually a hard wheat with a higher protein content. Bread flour has an even higher protein content!

      Oh that's so interesting, Kym! That could be the reason, for sure! Bread is such a simple and yet such a complicated thing!

    I love your videos, Mindy, and thanks for showing all these different ways to make this bread. I bet I would have to figure out each of these different ways at different times since I rarely have self-rising flour or butter. I'll have to try this out with the way you recommend, though, as it looks delish. Thanks for doing all of the experimentings for us!

    I feel that what commercial SR flour has that the home made one does not is baking soda that is why the store bought flour rose more than home made. I would add between 1/4 and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the 3 cups of AP flour along with the 4 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and salt. Let me know if anyone tries this 😊

    I have a question. the one with self raising had time to raise when you were making the one from scratch didn't have any time to rise like the other two did. just a thought. Good comparison. second question how would it test and bake with the butter mixed in?? I understand how you child was thinking.. walking past, oh so good smells and dang that loaf jumped right out and hit me and I saved it from falling and a little bit fell off and I saved it. yes do

    Love your videos-just watched Emergency Budget Meals, but PLEASE PLEASE STOP USING THE TERM ‘food insecurity’ !! It’s so insulting to people who are just plain HUNGRY and embarrassed. Now you are making it sound like we should’ve ‘insecure’ about it as well. PLEASE spread the word to STOP using this term. It’s very degrading and unhelpful. I’m begging you to help stop this term. Thank You For All You do.

    • @SeeMindyMom
      @SeeMindyMom  3 роки тому

      Linda, food insecurity doesn't describe the person or the way they should feel, it describes a very serious situation in which access to appropriate nutrition is compromised for one reason or another, often at no fault of the person or family. It is the term used in professional circles including philanthropies that address the issue. "Food Insecurity" actually lends more seriousness to the problem than the term "needy", which was commonplace even just a decade or two ago (and much more condescending and unfeeling in my opinion).
