Man, I really needed to hear this. As someone who's felt insecure and shamed about my interest in "childish" things, it's nice to have a community of people with the courage to say "no, I choose to hold on to these feelings and comforts." The world is already bleak as it is, what's wrong with cultivating something that's pure and simple fun?

Thanks to Magical Girl Media, I get to go to school to study Sequential Art, and now I get to make my OWN Magical Girls! :D A lot of people forget that as much as it's aimed to kids, it's adults that are just as passionate as kids are making Magical Girl Media! I love your channel so much, please never stop shining ✨

I'm glad you made this video!!! You're never to old to watch any type of magical girl show! A lot of the time, magical girl media enjoyers watch it because it helps them mentally and emotionally, it also amasses a community where people can feel like they belong. You're never too old, too black, etc. to enjoy MG media

To be fair, Doremi flopped in the US, for reasons too long to put in a short comment.
I think, oftentimes the people saying we shouldn't watch this or that because we're too old (or we shouldn't play video games...) are just envious that we have found something that brings us joy, and they don't have the same. So we should just enjoy ourselves, and hope for others to find their happiness too ^^

    I’m in my (early) 40s 🫣
I spent my childhood and early 20s taking care of my family instead of being able to just be a kid and anime lets me heal my inner child that had to grow up too fast. Also I love seeing people in their 20s doing the things I didn’t get to do. Love your videos! 💚

I just turn 30 not that long ago… growing up as a gay Latino I loved watching Magical Girl anime especially Sailor Moon and Wedding Peach. I do remember ppl in school/family members making fun of me bc of my interest so I kept it a secret later on. I just got back into watching Magical Girl anime and “OMG” I’m so in love!! Especially with Precure!! I’m so mad that it took me so long! But now I’m not ashamed of it and little by little I’m getting my collection going. Haha 😆 Watching your videos is really inspiring and motivates me to express my interest even more. So Thank You💖

I wonder how many people came out as queer thanks to the representation we see in magical girl shows. Madoka Magica was a huge part of how I grew into myself. I’m sure there are others out there who share this experience.

I am 35. I grew up with Sailor Moon and CardCaptor Sakura. They will always hold a place in my heart. 💛 I even watch the new My Little Pony generation. I don’t care what others say. We can all use some magic and wholesomeness in the world.

This hits home, especially as someone who grew up with My Little Pony and Bluey, two kid oriented shows with adult appeal like most maho shoujo series. Even back then at 10 years old, people thought I was too old for ponies.

As someone who has been watching magical girls since 13, this hits hard for me. Because magical girls changed my whole personality. Magical girls made me feel like I can do anything despite not being able to transform or having my own little fairy. I feel like my own magical girl in the sense + doing cosplays and collecting merchandise. Magical girls aren’t just meant for kids it’s meant for adults, so many magical girls have topics meant for adults. That’s why I I think it’s important to know magical girls. Btw love the vibe of your channel. Been watching since last month. 💖

seeing another black girlie love the same things i love makes me feel so happy and assured in myself 💗💗 ANYBODY can have fun with cutesy magical girl anime and cartoons!!!!! please keep doing what you do, Imani🎀 your content makes me and many others feel so great. i wish i met more people in real life who still embrace their “childish” interests without feeling limited by their race, age, etc. i often feel embarrassed to like what i like when people say things like “aren’t you too old?” or “you’re so immature/childish..” even though i’m just in high school, so it’s hard to stay true to myself - it’s people like you who help so much with this. i feel like i’m going to cry writing this. thank you so much. we love you💕😭

Cutest ever! I feel like there is a point where we try and dull ourselves down to be more palatable to a wider group of people. But it leads to shallow/empty connection etc.

As a 32 yo who has been an avid fan of magical girl shows since childhood, I have to say this video resonated with me in a way I wasn't expecting. I have never been able to find friends who share this particular interest IRL... Years ago, I was able to find like-minded people online and I truly enjoyed that time in my life. It has been a while since, due to life, job, responsibilities, but my passion for magical girl media and my inner magic has not faded. I still watch and collect when I can. This video was a nice reminder that we can find community when we need it. Thank you ♡︎

Thank you for making this! More people need see more videos like this. Speaking as a 37 year old straight guy with autism, I’ve always been amazed by the magical girl genre of anime ever since I first discovered Cardcaptor Sakura during my teen years. Granted it was through the Cardcaptors dub by Nelvana but it was still my introduction to Magical Girl anime nonetheless. Since then I eventually got into Sailor Moon, PowerPuff Girls Z and Pretty Cure to name a few. In fact, as I’m writing this I’m currently watching Ojamajo Doremi(Near the end of Sharp) and been enjoying this more slice of life take on the magical girl genre. Ever since 2010 when I first watched My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic I’ve been a firm believer that as long something has good writing, it can appeal to anyone outside of the target audience. And this includes magical girl anime. I mean, granted there are some magical girl anime out there that are aimed at older fans of the genre like Madoka Magica and Gushing Over Magical Girls but that’s a different discussion for a different time. But no one should feel ashamed or embarrassed to enjoy something that their attached to. Watch what you want, like what you’re into and most of all, be proud of who you are. So once again, thank you for making this. We need more content like this on this platform and I hope this reaches out to more people.

Thank you for this! It's so important, especially as we get older, to live our most authentic selves, and magical girl shows have that spark of innocence, love, and happiness that just keep on giving. I'm 36 and I have a Clow Card with Sakura on it that I keep in my wallet, so I can remember a quote from her: "No matter what happens, I'll absolutely be alright." and it's gotten me through some hard times. This video resonates with me for sure, I found the 90s Moomin anime years back as an adult, and although I didn’t grow up watching the show, it just brings so much joy, whimsy, and peace into my life whenever I watch it. Sometimes I would feel a little self conscious when telling people about it, but the animation is so beautiful and it usually has very touching/hilarious messages in it. I just had to accept that I wouldn’t let it stop me from enjoying something that brings positivity. Highly recommend the show if you haven’t seen it!

What's especially important to me in the maho-shoujo genre and in shows aimed at children's audiences in general is that the authors aren't afraid to talk about important things and serious problems that all people face in life (this applies mostly to anime, unfortunately in Western children's animation everything is very refined nowadays). And even more importantly, when the authors talk about these problems, they also talk about hope, love, and different ways of solving problems, albeit in a simplified way.
Even in a fairy tale, the world cannot be perfect, because then there is no point in its existence. Both the world and the humanity that inhabits it are not perfect - and this is in its own way beautiful and terrible at the same time. And the sooner you realise and accept this, the easier and freer your life becomes.
I wish I could have realised this when I was just a young fella.

I relate a lot to this!! Anime in general is such a taboo topic because of how many people consider it to be "cringe" from the pandemic days, so most of the time I even struggle to talk about that. Whenever I do find the courage to speak about it (99% of the time it's because I'm around other people who watch anime) I usually just talk about the trendy shounen/seinen series like Demon Slayer, Spy x Family, Bungo Stray Dogs, etc. and while I do cherish those series a lot, magical girls will always be my #1 favorite genre. It's really a taboo topic within another taboo topic so lots of times I find myself keeping quiet about it even around other fellow anime fans.
I'm way past the target audience for most magical girls shows and I don't really find myself enjoying the goriness and fanservice of those targeted to people my age. I've always used mahou shoujo as some type of escape from reality where you don't have to worry about making friends or building a career, and you can just watch some teenage girls (and sometimes boys) fight crime in the most wholesome yet powerful way that's very hard to describe. It brings me comfort in a way that no other type of media has, and I will always appreciate it for that.
I'm still hoping for the day where shows like precure and ccs get more popular so I can actually find merch of them at my local anime stores instead of having to import them directly from Japan, as well as having a much larger audience that can relate to this type of media. Because I feel many topics in these shows can be relatable to lots of people, but unfortunately not everyone has the resources to go find these shows, much less the open-mindedness to give them a chance. I just hope one day everyone can be interested in what they like without being judged for it

I love Magical Girls series because they give you a lot of hope, especially in dark times.I wish we had adult shows that teach people about hope and overcoming life's problems. Too many of them only talk about the 'cruel realities' of life as a terrible remember. We need more hope in our lives, especially as we get older. So yeah, magical girls give me a lot of hope to overcome life.

I really appreciate this video. As someone who has spent more than half of my teenage years watching Mahou Shoujo and subsequently strived to become a better person because of my favourite characters like Doremi and Hana from Hugtto, I resonate with what you had to say in this video. The points you bring up about how enjoying Mahou Shoujo shouldn't have anything to do with your age (or really whoever you are) actually fits well with themes found in the genre. I've been watching Comet-san recently and there was an episode all about this; the whole idea that we shouldn't let go on that joy and wonder we had for things when we were younger. Mahou Shoujo is so unbelievably awesome and I'm very proud to be a fan!

When it comes to the discussion of "You can't do X thing because Y" I always feel very lucky because, despite external influences telling me otherwise, when I was young I internalized very quickly that it's better to be judged for who you are than not living your truth.
Whenever I see people say that they struggle to accept who they are and who they want to be, I always feel sorry for them. Not in a pitty sort of way but more like in a "I'd want to give you some of my resolve" sort of way.
I think I also have an easier time not getting influanced by others since I'm a loner at heart so I don't feel the need to share what I like too much. However both through diving back in to the magical girl fandom and other personal experiences, I've understood that community makes memories and I find that wonderful. Also I might not NEED to talk to other people abit what I like to enjoy it, but if you give me a chance to talk YOU CAN BET YOU'LL NOT HEAR THE END OF IT XD!

I didn’t grow up watching magical girl shows when I was a kid kid so I don’t have nostalgia for the genre or a particular show, I actually first got introduced to the genre through the more dark magical girl/tragical girl sub genre with shows like Madoka Magica and Yuna Yuki is a Hero! I still love both of those shows and they are still so fun to rewatch, discuss and analyze! After quarantine, I ended up so enamored with the more glitzy, cheerful, and magical part of the magical girl genre!!! It’s just so fun to reconnect with my imagination, creativity, and care free nature that yes, most would also equate to childhood. But we should never forget excitement and joy, creativity and connection! As we get older, connect more with the world and with people in our lives, we should carry with us a sense of love and whimsy!! I love us magical girl fan! Go forth and live magical lives! ❤

I finally took a dip into Precure with Hirogaru Sky Precure, and even as an adult I could apprciate it for being real, and honest and hopeful. It was free of the cynicism and irony that a lot of modern anime (and media in general) are full of. It was really refreshing, and I had a great time.

Honestly needed to hear this. People can be so mean about your interest. I'm personally non-binary and some people like to tell me both to grow up and that makes me less valid as a non-binary person. Even though magical girls are widely known for some characters not accepting gender norms and accepted by lgbtq+ people. I really love all of your videos you're a joy!

It’s not exactly the same thing but I as a trans man have been so stringent on what I’m allowed to like since I came out because I was worried that indulging in the things that I loved so much as a child and the “girly “ cutesy aesthetics would invalidate me as a man, but ever since finding your channel and a few other things in my life happening I’ve decided that I’m allowed to enjoy these things especially the things that I grew up seeing because they make me happy and that’s all that really matters, all that I guess to say, thanks for being so open about the things you love it’s a great thing.

This is something that I needed to hear I started watching precure when I was 12 and now I'm 19 and I still feel like I'm not alone and for some reason I'm thinking that precure and pokemon would work well together

I only started watching magical girls shows after reaching adulthood tbh. Even though I can't fully suspend my cynicism, it's fun! and pretty! and energetic in a way i cannot muster for myself!

I havent even watched the video but I just want to say finding your channel has been really comforting. I grew up watching magical girls whether it was Sugar Sugar Rune or magical idol anime like Pretty Rhythm and it was a source of comfort for me! I loved the colorful outfits and the girls' unwavering hope for a better world. I'm in my early twenties now and I have reignited that love for magical girls. It is really nice to see others do the same and I don't have to feel alone anymore. Thank you from one magical girl fan to another ଘ(˵╹v╹)━☆•.,¸,.•*¯`•.,¸,.•*

HI HI!! Sorry to waste your time and I really hope you'll get to see and answer my question, so, I've been a huge fan of precure series but I got lost since I didn't know new ones existed, my bf got KINDA interested in it too, we watched the movies and he said he would like to watch a series with me if I want to, so, be loves action and I want to ask you if you could recommend me a nice series that has both action and cute transformations, I wanted to watch Kira Kira Precure A La Mode, but the transformation look honestly pretty basic and I saw comments saying that the fights aim more for children :(( could you help me please?

i’ve loved magical girls since discovering “Sailor Moon: Crystal” and reading the manga as a tween. i wanted to watch more magical girl content when season three ended, so i saw “Glitter Force” on netflix. i loved it at the time, but it helped me discover precure. the characters, themes, costumes, friendships, everything is just so wonderful about them 🩷

i’m turning 21 in november. i love magical girl and idol shows. always have, but i forced myself to try and like other media for years. i tried to like more western live action shows like gossip girl or general hospital or vampire diaries. i tried to get into more shounen anime like naruto or dragon ball or jujutsu kaisen. no matter what, though, something always felt missing.
magical girl shows lowkey raised me. winx club, h20, mlp, precure, sailor moon, madoka magica, aikatsu, love live, and more: these shows showed me that my softness could be my strength, even in world that sees my exterior and demands that i must live a life constantly hardening my heart.
finding your channel was like finding an oasis in a desert, no lie. i don’t know many other black girls who like anime, let alone mahou shoujo or idol anime. i started to believe it wasn’t okay to love these shows or express femininity in my own way only because of my age and my race. it was so healing to see someone who looks like me embrace something that i thought i should be ashamed of. thank you for being you. 🩷🌈✨

    This video touched my soul.🥹
I think the big reason why most of us love and still watch magical girls as adults is because they represent hope and love! Just like you, I loved magical girl shows growing up like Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Magical Doremi, Mew Mew Power, and Winx Club. In early 2019 to mid 2022, I mainly watched/rewatched magical girl shows, which became a huge comfort to me due to my health declining and being in and out of the hospital. Despite how depressed I was and fed up with my health, I remember when the first episode of Star Twinkle Precure dropped which motivated me to keep trying to get better and fight for my health. (along with “I can’t die! The Sailor Moon movie hasn’t come out yet!”🤣) It’s been two years since I had my operation that saved my life (a complete hysterectomy for SEVERE endometriosis) and I’ll forever be grateful to magical girl shows for giving me hope that things would get better.🥰 As well as helping me find my career as a full time costumer and tailor!💕💕
Thank you for always making such fun, thoughtful videos! I watch them as soon as I get the notification!! 🥰 Also, the bracelet came out so sparkly and magical!!🤩
