The rink is so empty. I am envious. In here it's always packed and also random hockey lovers train next to you which is scary
We are fortunate here to have two year round sheets of ice. I filmed this on an adults only session, so it was nice and quiet. I get it with the hockey players, their style of skating sure doesn’t mix well with figure skating.
At least you have a rink. Where I live we only have outside rinks which off course are only open in winter(usually around christmas time), and they're not maintained that well. So I only get very few skating sessions every year😭 I'm so sad about that.
@@purpledawn2727 well, we are into hockey and figure skating. It would be strange not to have one. But still feels like we don't have enough. They are always packed)
@@viktoria8189 "we are into hockey and figure skating, it would be strange not to have one"...? I don't get what you mean. I'm also into figure skating, but that doesn't mean that there are rinks available to me. Just because people are into figure skating(or anything else) it doesn't automatically mean that there are facilities available.
oh man! I totally get you! in the city next to us is ice ring with public skating in winter months and its always packed! sooo many kids, so many teens playing "catch me" even adult men with kids doing stuping things... worst skating ever when grown ups with kids are skating reclessly around you, not caring if you can stop or if they don´t run under your feet... :( I always loved figure skating... but after mild winters last couple of years there is no other chance to skate, only in hockey rings inside... :(
I don’t know why but lately I’ve been so interested in figure skating and I really want to start doing it, I’m 16 and it looks so cool and fun
It is cool and fun!!! It is never to late to start, so give it a try! 😄
I started skating like 2 months before i turned 16, ive been doing it for like 9 months now! Its so much fun
ThriveDiaries I’d love to start but I live an hour away from the nearest rink and my parents don’t want me doing it (im 15)
Not Me SAAAAAAME! I have been watching so many skating videos lately! My whole UA-cam history is BTS vids and skating! Lol (I’m 13 tho)
Me too and I’m 17
Love all the adults skating in your rink! Adults skate too!!⛸🏆❤️
Isn’t it great?! We have a great adult skating community here, as well as three “coffee club” sessions a week that are adults only.
was there some idea that they don't?
@@blitheringape5321 Yup. I'm 12 and everyone says I started too late and that I'll get nowhere. Jokes on them I go once a month and I'm improving quite a bit! I wish to go more often though.
@@quokkarii its NEVER too late if you're dedicated enough
As a 60 year old who just learned to skate again 2 years ago, this is fantastic thank you! I now understand what I need to fix to get my crossovers and some backwards speed!
You are welcome! Glad you found it helpful! I love hearing about adults getting into figure skating!
I wish I did it
I'm 39 just started ice skating again after a 21 year break...I'm on my 4th skate session in 2 months I can forward crossover decently I did 2 backwards the last time but only skated backwards a half lap 3 times...I only ice skated 4 hours before the recent sessions
♥ Im 58, a beginner. Some childhood speed skating experience caused my several falls for a start:( . But I still want to continue
I'm 65 - I started ice skating for the first time in January 2023!
My mom is a coch and I’ve been skating with her since 2 and I’m 8 and I just landed a axel and dubbel toe!!
Congratulations! That’s awesome!
that's impressive. I'm 13 and still cant balance on ice
Keep skating and stay in school!!
well done!!!!! :))
You're gonna go far in your life!
I skated a bit as a teen and now aged 73 I just picked it up again (restarted after lockdown). You're never too old! I love these tutorials which are so helpful as a foundation for practice.
Oh I love hearing stories like this! Thanks for the positivity!
Very similar experience. 58, your message is encouraging to me. Tks~~
Want to try too at 60 but my knees are bad. Would love to try again.
i'm working in my roller blades on land, and trust me this is working perfectly for getting the skating-backward skill. Thanks from Chili
Glad to hear it’s helping! Hello to you in Chili!
@@sharlyne9701 rollerblading and ice-skating are pretty similar but rollerskates can be slightly different
Backwards crossovers are much easier then forward ones lol ive now learnt all my crossovers on my rollerblades
Is there a pill at Walmart I can buy that would automatically let me do these moves?
Lol. Wouldn’t that make it easier. 😆
if only. they only sell them at target. if you're willing to look though, some places sell pills that let you land all your single jumps!
@Jessy D I've fallen about 3-4 times I'm considering wearing a helmet to ice skate I skate decently fast(can forward crossover backwards a little bit but slower and can stop from a low speed) but still have trouble stopping
You're just getting too good at this video instruction thing... What a great resource for your students and everybody else on UA-cam wanting to learn moves in the field in easy to understand directions & concepts! Great work again Julia!
Thanks so much! Glad for your continued encouragement. I am definitely feeling more and more at ease with this whole video instruction thing. 😁
I've been skating for 10 months so I already know how to do these BUT I learned a lot from your tutorial! Like I'm def not using my inside leg as much as I should. I'll have to make more of an effort to do that and see what difference it makes!
Glad to know you were able to get something out of it!
Yes! Most skaters don’t receive the more important training on the inside leg to generate speed and smoothness
Man, why I'm watching this. I dont even practice figure skating LMAO. but loved it
Maybe because skating is fun as a participant, or as a spectator. Either way, thanks for watching! 😊
She makes it look so easy. I'd be tripping all over the place.
Patti Carey awe, thank you! I’ve had lots of years to practice.
I thought being 26 would be too late for me to take lessons, but seeing those older women skating so beautifully I definitely dont want to give up my dream. I always loved figure skating and hope one day i can improve my skills. Great video!
26 is definitely not too old to learn! Go for it!!
Im 25 and just started training in a program for adults. Go for it, it's so fun😄
I'm 42 and just started adult classes at my local rink. I'm loving these tutorials :)
I’m 41 and I got started last year !!! It’s never too late to start learning anything as long you have passion for it
Your description of scooping with the inside leg blade instead of just sliding it out really finished this skill for me, helped me shift the weight, and feel more balanced.
I am so glad to hear I could help you!
OMG THANK YOU , IM A BOY WHO IS 11 AND USING MY SISTERS ACCOUNT LOL . BUT WHEN I WAS 10 I STARTED TO FEEL LIKE I WANT TO BE A FIGURE SKATER :D
Just turned 49. Haven’t really skated since I was a kid. I don’t know what came over me this past Xmas, but I took the fam to the rink to do something together. I forgot how much fun skating can be! Started taking group lessons a week ago; now I’m obsessed with wanting to learn as much as I can. Your tutorials and Coach Mary’s are really good. Can’t wait to practice :)
So much fun! Welcome back to the Ice!
I’ve been skating for just over a year now, and I’ve been really struggling getting my backwards crossovers. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I can’t wait to try these tips next time I skate!
Happy to help!
The part that knocked me out was how she purposely clinks her toe picks and doesn't go flying. What unbelievable control.
Awe, thanks. years of practice.
My skating coach corrected my backwards crossovers and now I can get so much speed it can be very scary. I’m working on doing them slower, with more control, so I don’t have to think about them. Nice video.
Thanks I appreciate that. Glad to hear your crossovers are coming along.
Lol I was going super fast with backwards crossovers, wasn't bending enough then my foot tripped over my blade xd
you can guess what happened after LMAO
I have been teaching myself for about two years, only to learn I've been spinning and jumping opposite ways. I neglected to learn crossovers on both feet so now I have to start from the beginning to get my counter-clockwise scratch spin down. Your video has really helped me and I feel confident I'll be back to learning spins in no time.
I am so glad to hear my videos have helped you! I love hearing to positive feedback. I will get more tutorials up for you as soon as I can. 😁
I'm starting figure skating (pretty late, I'm now 14)
But I do know some skills. I was working on my crossovers but I struggled, then I came across this. I'm excited to be at the rink again to try this!❤
It is never to late to start figure skating! Glad you decided to give it a try.
@@CoachJulia I would also LOVE to start it. Unfortunately, every teacher I asked said, that with 15 I'm to old for this... Do you have any tips for me? I would really be happy to learn it.
Lovely Greetings.
Same! I always thought I started too late 😂
It’s never to late! Give it a try if it is something you are interested in!
Pau Valdemar you are only late when you are 120y.o. If younger, everything is fine;)
This is very helpful as I’m learning to skate. I’m glad to see this tutorial and find Ice skating, interesting. Thanks a lot Coach🤗
I just taught myself forward crossovers tonight. Will try this tomorrow. Thank you so much!!!
Wow such a clear explanation, thank you
This is one of my favourite ice skating moves! I am still at level 2 at the moment but I can’t wait to be able to do these and feel like I’m flying around the rink. Gotta keep practicing! Thanks for all the tips, especially about weight placement and inside and outside edge. Helps so much with my skating.
Before i started figure skating, I always watched your videos and they’ve helped me so much. When i started figure skating i have already knew all of the beginners moves thanks to you so it was easier for me to move to the more difficult moves and it took way less time than it usually would!❤️ Thank you for helping us❤️❤️
Oh I love hearing that! Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on starting figure skating!
Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. Thank you for helping all of us learn
Thank you so much. I am glad to hear you enjoyed my tutorials.
Thank you Coach Julia!!
i already know how to do them but still, i want to have perfect basics technique and sometimes i struggle with them, your videos are so so helpful!!!
I’m not new to ice skating but I’m definitely rusty at it since I haven’t done it in like two years. I know I’ll remember things I learned cause muscle memory, but I find this video as a refresher. Thank you
You make it look so easy!
i love ice skating with my whole heart. I’ve been using my roller blades to practice since I can’t go ice skating everyday, but ive made improvements!!!
Thank you Julia for all the great very well explained videos. We are a group of figure skating beginners with mixed levels and we all use your videos to correct our misstakes or watch it to get behind the technics. You are explaining everything step by step and encouraging us to just go forward if we feel comfortable with our progress. It really helps to do things on our own speed. So: Best skating tutorials i know!! We love you.
Honestly these videos are the best to help me learn thankssss
I am so glad to hear that!
Thank you for this. I just learned this today and it was so helpful to review
Glad it was helpful!
After watching this countless times I finally started to do it, still not as fast or good looking as you are doing it but still it's something!
I don't know why but I feel like the advanced one is easier than the normal one 😅
Hey, so exciting to hear you are starting to get this move down! And glad you found my tutorial helpful.
Truthfully it is once you get the hang of it and the feel of those edges!
@@CoachJulia your crossovers are beautiful!!... you look like an Olympian...I know this will probably sound funny but I find the backwards skating with crossovers to be fascinating as the best skaters build their power and speed as they round that curve in the rink ( I would crash and burn into the wall doing this I'm sure!!!)....
Best figure skating tutorials 🙏🏻 Thank you!
Glad you think so!
Stepwise, clear and detailed. Perfect teaching !
Thank You!
Really like your tutorials. It's always good to review the fundamentals, and break everything down. Thanks!
He, thanks so much for the positive feedback. So glad you enjoy my tutorials.
Thank you a lot! It helps to much so see the different parts that the crossover is made out of!
You are welcome! I am glad you found this helpful.
I’ve been struggling a lot with backwards crossovers - thank you so much for such a great video! It was definitely helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
This is totes improving my bcs!
This looks so fun!
It is fun!!
I love the way you teach is so well explained . thank you for teaching. Also makes my wonder about your rinks
Glad you like them!
Your explanations are so clear! I love this tutorial 😘
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
If you know how to free line on street free skates this will make so much more sense on how to transition in ice/figure skating. Thanks for this tutorial!
This is so awesome. I've always wanted to learn how to do this. I'm not ready to try yet but it's great fun looking forward to it.
Yay! Keep practicing and I am sure you will be able to pick it up soon.
Great stuff, finally a video explaining how to go backwards....can`t wait for the weekend to try it out.
Zuzana Hudáková I hope it goes well when you give it a try! Good luck!
You are the best teacher in figure skating I have seen on UA-cam. My backward Crossovers have been improved since becaue of your very good explanation . I am 65 years old. I thank you very much for your uploads. My Greetings out of Holland
I love the way you explain it’s really easy on the brain❤️❤️
Awe, Thank you so much 😀
Your videos are awesome and so helpful for this adult skater! I love to see the progressions and exercises, and listen to your detailed explanations. Keep up the good work!
Oh thank you so much for the positive feedback! I am so glad you are finding my tutorials helpful!! 😀
I think you've made the best and most helpful video tutorial for backwards crossovers I have referenced so far. Thank you so much for this!
Oh I am so happy to hear that you liked it! Thank you for the positive feedback.
Wow! The more advanced crossover looks so smooth and pretty. I can't wait to get on the ice this morning and try it.
Have fun!
This video helps me a lot! Thank you! I have never really learned how to do Backward Crossovers but now I feel like I can do it, thank you so much!
Yay! So glad I could help you learn!
I went ice skating nearly every day when I was younger for about 3 years and then stopped for about 2 years I started again about a month ago and im trying to regain my confidence and be able to do this again I can do forwards cross over just now backwards but this really helped
The rink just came back since it's winter where I am, and now I'm really interested in figure skating. If I had more space at the rink, I'd love to try this. Thank u for the clear explanation and tutorial😄
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial!
This is the best break down of a skating move I've scene. You really broke it down into manageable easy to follow steps. Thank you.
Glad to be able to help!
Wow you make it look so easy. I really like the way you break it down explaining. Thank you. I am looking forward to my next ice skating moment.
Glad it was helpful!
Your tutorials are gold!
Thank you!
I watched the forward crossover videos and the beginner skating video, and i was able to do crossovers for the first time on ice today! hoping to try more backward skating the next time i go to the rink 😊
Thank you so much for your coaching!
That's awesome! I am glad to hear it!
THANK YOU so much!! I've been learning on off-ice skates, and with the help of this video, today I just was finally able to do some backward cross overs! I have been wanting to do these for forever. Thanks again!
Fantastic! Glad it helped.
This is a great tutorial. I love that you explain each step and _how_ to do it. How being the key word.
I am glad you enjoyed the tutorial!
Best tutorial videos hands down.
Wow, thanks!
wow, this is one of the only videos that helped! ur a great coach
Glad it helped!
Thanks a lot ! My cross and rollover feel fine now!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
The best learning video! Thanks for that.
So glad you found it helpful.
I just want to say your videos are awesome, I'm on inline figure skates at the moment due to covid, and I was struggling until I saw your videos and I've finally got the backwards crossovers down right, keep up the awesome videos
Great to hear! So happy my videos helped.
Excellent breakdown of the movements and body positioning. I’ve watched many videos but none this clear.
i am so glad you found it clear and helpful!
I took lessons way back when in elementary school and never got to learn to jump. Your videos are great for reviewing what I remember and how to improve the abilities I lost. thank you for your content!
I appreciate that! Glad you are finding them helpful.
Omg that's the best Tutorial ever! Thank you!
Thanks. So much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this. So well explained. Thank You 😙
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Coach Julia you are the best I love ❤your videos and today I did my first crossovers thanks to you 😊
Congratulations!!!
thank you so much youve helped me so much with figure skating, im trying to self-teach myself in figure skating, so thank you for teaching us!
You are so welcome! I am glad I can help.
Thank you very much Julia!!!!🙂
Thank you. It's so helpful the way you break it down.
You're very welcome! So glad it was helpful.
OMG thank you very much, i wasn't able to figure it out how it was possible, your video will really help me in my next training session
Great to hear!
Thanks for the videos, they're a great resource
Glad you like them!
Thank you. Great video, best explanation I’ve seen. I think I get it now! I’m learning at 43 and I love it!!!
That’s so awesome! Go for it,
You are a great instructor. Thanks for posting
Thank you so much!
THANKK YOUUU my teacher taught me in such a different way I was so confused but they’re so easy now after watching this video
So glad to hear this was helpful!!
My rink is still closed for several weeks, but I love watching your videos to learn off ice! Thanks so much❤️
It will be so great when the rinks open back up and people can get back to the ice!
Your videos have been so helpful to me! I started skating a little over a month ago and since I wasn't able to find group lessons for a while, youtube's been my best friend. Your videos are very easy to follow and help me figure out things like where the weight should be, how the body should be aligned, etc.
I'm so glad they are helping you!
This is so well broken down. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
I finally understand the concept THANK YOU, I train alone, and this really really helps
I am so glad I can help!!
Thank you coach Julia! I’m taking a group lesson where a coach can correct my posture, but your tutorial is more into detail and step by step. It’s a really nice combo imo.
Sounds like you have a co-coaching situation going on. 😆 But seriously though, It is alway so good to have someone in person who can really see what you are doing and help fix things on the spot. I am glad I can come alongside and just help with clarification when you need it.
You super good, me and my son both think you are best in teaching of skating lessons. thank you
Oh, I appreciate that so much, thank you.
I just started playing hockey at 43 and am struggling with going backwards with any speed and this is so so so helpful. It now makes so much sense how some players can accelerate going backwards -- they are using the inside edge and doing that scooping motion. Thank you so much! You are a wonderful teacher, I can't wait to try this!
Good luck out on the ice! I am glad I could bring you some clarity!
Julia thanks to your 'zoom in' captures my clockwise back x have significantly improved. Had to go back to this video so I can work on counterclockwise.
Thank you so much and I am glad you are finding my videos helpful!!
You are a great coach! Please keep it up!! ❤️
Thank you so much!
Perfect and very complete training….too many skaters don’t get the basics on the inside edge to generate speed….the “scoop” method!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am just “restarting “ with ice skating and your videos are a real pleasure to watch
Thank you! Welcome back to the ice!
Great video!! When I do backwards crossovers, I tend to lean forwards. Trying hard to change that habit 😅
She skates well and she's pretty! I'm really envious!😍😍😍
You are so kind
Thanks for a great series. Very clear and meaningful instructions. Back on ice at 78 after over 20 years off ice...lots of work but your lessons are really helpful. Thanks!
Oh my goodness! Welcome back tho the ice. That is awesome.
I love the backwards cross-over it's my fave move on the ice
It's a great move! It feels like flying!
I’m excited it’s gonna be so much fun 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yay!!!
It's so helpful, thank you!
Such great and precise instructions! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Wow! Good tutorial for beginners. Our rinks here in Cebu City and Manila are always jampacked of unskilled beginners and that really frightened me to meet an accident on ice...LOL! Thanks for this video.
Glad you liked the tutorial! I hope it helps you
Clear explanations. Thank you from France.
So glad you enjoyed it.
