i agree. i was really disappointed. if you look at the Ratchet and clank timeline of games, this is a part of a decline in quality. even considering it's a reboot/remake. It's got a great coat of paint. but it's made of paper mache.
@@kaidos123 finally someone with a brain. The ps2 ratchet games were the best. The gameplay ( movement and weapons ) really dropped in quality in the ps3 era and I have every ratchet game that came out. I hope they don't make anymore because honestly the modern ratchet games just aren't as good as the ps2 era.
I just found your channel a week ago. I absolutely love your review style, you might be my new go to reviewer, man!! You are so rational, funny(you have Yahtzee level metaphors sometimes), and you talk about the sound and music!!!! I can't believe you do that! So many reviewers don't even touch that stuff, yet it is key to your immersion within the game. And your rating scale is sublime! Thank you so much for your hard work!
This is a really solid review! Although watching you whack those explosive crates instead of hitting them from a distance was a bit hard to watch, hehe.
I've watched a lot of reviews from multiple different sources and I have to say that this is one of the best written reviews ive ever listened to. You'd convince me of a purchase no doubt if it wasn't for the fact I'm already getting it. Smart, funny, and relatable you sir got my viewership from now on.
Your reviews always make me smile. "Buy, Wait for Sale, Rent, Never Touch?" is a much more relevant rating system than a "7.8-9.9" whatever rating system. You also break down each element of the games design and rare it separately from the rest of the product, as a Ratchet & Clank fan myself I can say for certain the games haven't exactly aged that well, but I still enjoy them on my ancient crap-tube tv! Thank you for the time you spent on this and I will be checking out more of your reviews in the future ^^!
I really hope you see this. but after years of watching youtube without creating an account, today I finally did. just to comment and tell you I love your reviews. Ive been watching them for awhile now. I watch alot of different reviews, but yours are in my opinion the best. No matter what the other reviews say I always watch one of your vids before a purchase. So again I finally made an account and your the first channel and so far the only one I'm subscribed too. keep it up your total awesome sauce!!!
Another thing I was kinda bummed got left out was the arena mode I was looking forward to playing another one of those. Hopefully they go all out on the next one and make it 60$ so they can make a full R&C.
the arena's didnt start until "going commando" and if they reboot that one then yes the arenas will be back along with those mini planets that were so incredibly cool.
+Madhusudana Sai Yerra lol cover shooter its more than that. theres platforming and puzzles so thats not all you do. the games immerse me better than any other game. ratchet and clank is good and all but never immerse me.
Your reviews are always my go to before I buy a game and the time and effort you put in to each review exceeds almost every other review I can find. Keep it up!
I don't have a PS4 and don't plan to get one but I just enjoy watching your reviews. Always very well made and I like how you split the review up into sections. Keep it up!
@@ACGreviews Hi, i'm from the future. This game totally passed me by when it dropped. Looking back on the past few years of games it stands VERY tall now that i've finally picked it up. Helped mostly in part by the excellent reviews you keep cataloged. It's a shame that these types of games haven't been as frequent now that we've been treated to so much high impact gore and grass textures. Hopefully this kind of design trends up again soon. Thanks for all the videos your about to make btw. Ya boi, Merlin Price
Watching footage of this makes me want an Earthworm Jim game done with the same exact type of graphics. The graphical fidelity of the old Ratchet & Clank games was still too "polygonal" to truly capture that Earthworm Jim style, but this would be perfect.
for some reason I've felt that the ps4 has Superman vs Batman syndrome where everything has to be realistic and serious which they feel equals enjoyment at least the games i own seem too and it makes me miss old ps2 games like this which were silly and fun simply because they were anyone agree?
I wonder if I'm the only one that misses the original music. Planet Rilgar's theme was so awesome , and now we've got some kind of ...blehhh in its stead :(
Excellent review! As a die-hard R&C fan who grew up on the originals, this looks fantastic. I would agree that certain aspects were underused, executed poorly, or simply fluff...BUT there are always patches to come I'm sure, and I actually wouldn't argue if they were to release, say, a Hoverboard Track DLC, ship customization, arena content, etc. The unlockable fluff is...well, fluff, but for anyone who's a classic R&C fan, it looks like it's the same fluff we know and probably didn't love all that much but is nonetheless there. This looks like an excellently done remake. Plenty of fan service (returning level designs, old classics like the bomb glove, "remastered" enemy designs), integration of successful concepts that came up later in the series (the sheepinator, the groovitron, Mr. Zargon(?), etc.), and new, fresh content (new levels, new enemies, a fresh story/context). I am very excited to play this game soon!
+Bakir AL-Fetlawi It was a pain being a huge fan and I never had a PS3 to play the future series. But this game did bring me back because I came back to PS after the 360. I went PS2 -----> Xbox 360 -----> PS4.
Fantastic review. Consistently clear, concise and honest. Sometimes I just bingewatch your reviews not because I care about the game but because your reviews are so good.
You mentioned Beyond Good and Evil. Do you think we'll ever see Beyond Good and Evil 2 in our life times? That game was amazing. An underrated masterpiece.
I’m currently revisiting this game again to try and get the platinum! This was my very first game I EVER played on PS2 on a demo disc way back when.. god those were simpler times.. but the nostalgia and the fun with this title is just awesome. I love it revisiting it just as much as I did the first time!
Awesome review Karak! Superbly detailed. "Aged worse then The Lawnmower Man" purely classic. Lmmfao, we all relate to that feeling especially after taking that trip down memory lane. My mang, str8 kilt it on details. Very impressed yet again. Keep it up home boi.
yours are among the best kind of reviews. Very witty and informative! Thank you. I'm gonna pick this up for sure. I can't wait for your Uncharted 4 review.
thank you for adding on game sound to your video. a lot of reviews leave that part out, but for me sound and music can make a game good to great. subscribed 😊
You know I never got into this series, I somehow missed it for whatever reason, but it seems like (at least from your review) this is a good starting point for working backwards. Thanks for making me spend more money Karak...
Thanks for mentioning framerate and audio! After being somewhat annoyed with R&C 1 and 2 (I only beat them recently on PS3 and felt like I played half the time at 15fps with the German audio mucking around) and still loving them, I was really curious about the performance this time. It will be a while before I pick this one up (I don't want to skip the originals) so smaller issues will probably be fixed by then. Really great review, overall, much more useful than others I've watched :)
my only issue was how frustratingly hard the last part of the game was.. took me like a half hour(or more) to get the last clank puzzle area complete and i was never able to beat the super difficult final boss
Wow, that's impressive. Everyone seems to hate the ships controls. I actually feel like the wrench and long jumps feel very bad in this game while the ship was very good. Also: the remove HUD option is bugged and the HUD comes back on every now and then. Like whenever you change planet or get teleported.
You forgot to mention the Holo card collecting. if you collect sets of cards you get bonuses, whether it's more bolts dropping, more upgrade gems dropping, and even a master version of all the weapons in challenge mode. I loved this feature.
+BigMikeSmoovee I discussed it at length during the lets play. To me it felt absolutely tacked on and worthless also the artstyle didn't match the rest of the game. It was throw away. BUt thats just my opinion.
Ouch only 8 hours of gameplay that's rough I made it to 2:20 and was sold on the game which never happens but after reading the comments ill wait for it to go on sale. Great review btw dude. I've boycotted ign and gamespot so it's nice to be able to rely on a credible gamers advice along with my own intensive research :)
Fantastic review as always Karak. Looking at some of these reimagined levels like Blackwater City and Metropolis brings a tear to my eye as a long-time Ratchet and Clank fan. Been following the series since its birth and it looks fantastic. Keep up the good work!
I expected all of the levels to be ported over. I may have not liked the green polluted planet but it's absence saddened me and so did the changes made to the robot factory. The puzzle elements were the slowest moments in the game and murdered its momentum. They made me say "fuck! Those damn puzzle again" during every playthrough.
I don't own a PS4 or plan on buying one but I'm always down to give the channel another view. I have really enjoyed your last few podcasts, I don't know how often you pump them out but it feels like it's been a while, do you plan on continuing them? Anyway keep up the good work, looking forward to some coverage of DOOM
if it only slightly lagged TWICE during an entire playthrough with those visuals even with hundeds of particles rendered at one time it really goes to show the passion and dedication put into it. Other devs should take massive notes
I have always been a huge fan of the Ratchet and Clank games since the PS2 days. I have the Ratchet and Clank collection on the PS3 (among other releases for the PS3), PSP and of course PS2. This game is definitely worth the $40 pre-order price tag (and even less than $40 for those who have Amazon Prime). Ratchet and Clank is an absolutely amazing game on the PS4 with gorgeous visuals (in terms of the levels, characters, particle effects and the overall graphical polish). The voice acting and story are both solid. The weapons are a lot of fun to use (which has always been the case with the series). A few hiccups don't prevent this game from being great. This game brings back some great memories that's for sure. I wished that older titles such as, Jak & Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Beyond Good and Evil and Syphon Filter would get more love and attention. I will be getting this game as soon as I can. Thanks for another thorough and solid review and God bless!
That's one series I missed at the time. Looks like I will gonna miss it again, since I dont have a PS4. It's things like this that makes me question my high end gaming PC (but only for fraction of a nanosecond) This game looks amazing.
+Ginsu131 I know, but it's expensive. Console gaming, here in Brazil, is utterly expensive. PC gaming may be expensive for the initial setup, but it is much cheaper in the long run (thanks to the many Steam sales) But I have gaming systems, may last one is a PS3, and it's a console I treasure because of Metal Gear Solid. By the way, Phantom Pain being on PC was a decisive factor for me to change from console to PC gaming. But hell, I really want to play Uncharted 4 and Star Fox Zero. If I could, I would have all the consoles and a PC.
Never played a Rachet and Clank game before... kinda looking forward to this. The airship part looks like it controls like Disney Infinity air battles to me.
ACG, I LOVE your rating of your reviews. One elaborate question, though: I bought Quantum Break and I enjoyed the CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE (despite the disappointing reviews in MetaCritic). I own a PS3 BUT not a PS4, is this the EXCLUSIVE that makes ya want to get a PS4 if you are a Ratchet and Clank fan????
To me it seems a lot like a mixture between the "funky" style of the original but with the dark and serious feel of the PS3 trilogy. Looking forward to playing this
One of my favourite UA-cam reviewers... I'll definitely consider picking the game up when it's a bit cheaper, but right now, I am waiting for Starfox Zero followed by Uncharted 4 next month. Oh, and then there is the small dilemma of wanting to pick up Mirrors Edge and Doom (depending on reviews), as well as Resident Evil 6 which recently got a HD re-release. So many games... So little time.
Can't wait until tomorrow! Ratchet and Clank was my first PS2 game, and I've bought every main title since (except All 4 One). I throw my money at Insomniac!
+Dylan Rayarel RATCHET AND CLANK. Just like mario in nintendo this is an exclusive.....let me guess...........you have a microsoft windows entertaining system
Never played a R&C game but this looks great, my son is five and was wondering would you say the games difficulty is a little too high for that age range? He can play the lego games fairly well and picked it up frighteningly fast (guess I'm going to be replaced soon :) )
Excellent review once again. My "go to" for game insight. You should do a review on Enter the Gungeon...curious as to your thoughts. I'm loving it. As always, keep up the good work.
I abandoned sony during the ps 3 era and have been an Xbot since the original...just have more games I enjoy. Your reviews are so damn enjoyable that I watch them all when available! really good stuff. The comment about George Lucas turning into Jaba....truth.
Tonight I bought this game. It was my first time playing ratchet & clank. 3 hours in, I've had nothing but fun. Was hoping for at least 10 hours of gameplay though...we shall see!!
Am I wrong in thinking Insomniac deserves props for charging less for the game, opposed to milking us for every last nut and bolt?
+wolfflow Maybe> It might also be connected to money they are getting for the movie allowing them to drop the price
ACG I for one still appreciate it. Especially in this day and age.
+wolfflow uhm ya I wasn't at all saying that it wasn't cool to appreciate it. It sure is. Just giving a reason on how it might be done.
If there was ever a game I wanted to be good, its this one.
+Goregy it is
+ACG- what about the boss battles
i agree. i was really disappointed. if you look at the Ratchet and clank timeline of games, this is a part of a decline in quality. even considering it's a reboot/remake.

3:52 - 4:06 is why your reviews are priceless
how is the checkpoint system?
yeah if you died during 5 minutes of the levels you start over. good times NOT
+Acrobat I want a challenging game like ratchet 2. I nearly pulled all my hair out from getting so angry at the game
+Ratchet Master Not like Tools of destruction i hope?
One of my favourite UA-cam reviewers... I'll definitely consider picking the game up when it's a bit cheaper, but right now, I am waiting for Starfox Zero followed by Uncharted 4 next month.
Oh, and then there is the small dilemma of wanting to pick up Mirrors Edge and Doom (depending on reviews), as well as Resident Evil 6 which recently got a HD re-release.
So many games... So little time.
+prankster101 thanks
Good stuff as always, Karak. I really want this game to do well, and your work will certainly help.
+Derek Casey thanks
Eloquent review, as always. Thanks!
This was my first game for ps2 back in the days. Memories man.

+darkmetroidhero thanks so much Dark
Can't wait until tomorrow! Ratchet and Clank was my first PS2 game, and I've bought every main title since (except All 4 One). I throw my money at Insomniac!
+Justin Rice go get it and enjoy
ACG Will do! And keep up the good work with the reviews.
Great to hear the remake is a proper one and not a cash-in movie-tie-in. Cheers!
One of the better titles in the franchise. Soars above Full Frontal Assault, All 4 One, etc. Solid game, pretty easy platinum.
Is this a ps4 exclusive? Or on pc as well
Ps4
I think it's exclusive :(
+Dylan Rayarel RATCHET AND CLANK. Just like mario in nintendo this is an exclusive.....let me guess...........you have a microsoft windows entertaining system
Nope its at the movie theatre as well XD
Not for the so called master race hehe

Just another Amazing Review from ACG! Keep It Up Man :)
Retail copies are coming out next week, right? Gotta pick it up. Love R&C.
+War624 correct
I must say you are one of the most professional reviewers going today. Well done.
Great review can't wait to get this tomorrow and I got it for 6 bucks can't beat that
+ferraro38 thanks
Is it short? How is the replay value? Is it one of those games where you play once and then shelf it forever?
+CoolestCatInTown I discuss that in the review with a breakdown of the time and the unlockables and how i feel
+ACG FIVE HOURS!!!!!!!! F I V E HOURS!
Never played a R&C game but this looks great, my son is five and was wondering would you say the games difficulty is a little too high for that age range? He can play the lego games fairly well and picked it up frighteningly fast (guess I'm going to be replaced soon :) )
+Rigged for Epic its probably a bit high
As always another great review!!
+BroadestHydra30 thanks brother
Excellent review once again. My "go to" for game insight. You should do a review on Enter the Gungeon...curious as to your thoughts. I'm loving it. As always, keep up the good work.
+Mooch 81 thanks mooch

+BeatupMckillyoustein thanks

I abandoned sony during the ps 3 era and have been an Xbot since the original...just have more games I enjoy. Your reviews are so damn enjoyable that I watch them all when available! really good stuff. The comment about George Lucas turning into Jaba....truth.
+Jesse Harris thanks brother
Great review! Thanks!
Tonight I bought this game. It was my first time playing ratchet & clank. 3 hours in, I've had nothing but fun. Was hoping for at least 10 hours of gameplay though...we shall see!!
