Remember Frog well. Growing up Frog and Airfix were about the only aircraft kits that I could buy in my community. Still have this kit in my stash among dozens of other Frog/Airfix kits.
I remember wanting to see a real Skua. Went down to the museum in England to see the one recovered from a lake in Norway. Hadn't realised it was displayed as it was retrieved, as a total wreck, posed as if underwater. Still a plane I really like.
The German plane being shot down is a Dornier do26 and the box art is a representation of a true event of an event which happened during invasion of Norway in 1940 by 803 squadron.
Eric "winkle" Brown's account of a dive bombing raid on Norway & dodging attacks by Me 109;s while flying a Skua close to the sea so it couldn't attack from below & near to a cliff so he could only be attacked from one side so the gunner could "give him a squirt if he got to close " is an exciting read
Great kit, I'd love that in my collection. The stand in the box is an Airfix one, not a Frog stand, you won't be able to put that transfer on the stand. The Frog ones were/are round. Rovex was the parent company of Tri-ang Trains.
As a kid I used to love FROG kits in preference to Airfix, the surface details seemed finer. Did you know FROG was derived from Fly Right Off Ground, in recognition of their intial products which were flying models and possibly the 1939 Skua you mentioned was one such model?
Nice unboxing video. Unfortunately, the Frog Skua is one of the most inaccurate plastic model kits ever made. The wings and tailplane are much too small, the front of the canopy is the wrong shape, and the rear gun never poked through the canopy. The panel lines are a work of fiction. No arrestor hook, no bomb recess, the list goes on.... Shame.
