  • I've spent some time driving the 2021 Audi RS6 Avant as well as the 2019 Mercedes Benz AMG E63S wagon and in this video we discover each car's distinct personality and I give my overall driving impressions. These German titans are the epitome of luxuriousness and performance but each manufacturer tuned there weapons differently. If you are seriously in the market for one of these, you can't go wrong with either one. But we'll discuss the differences.

Nice video Joe. I look forward to your E63S wagon video. The RS6 looks great....but my vote goes to the MB wagon aka Hooligan. I love the elegant yet sporty look of the MB combined with its “Sleeper” wagon optic. The RS6 more looks like a villain and something that may be very competent. I believe there are currently only three major performance wagons out there: E63S MB AMG Wagon, Audi RS6 Wagon, and the Porsche PannyPimpy Wagon. Sorry Porsche .. LOL.. I hope Audi continues to bring this wagon and more to the USA...but I wouldn’t bet on it. These wagons are great but they are very expensive, and thus buyers have many options...and only true purists will commit.

I hear you Mr MJ. I think the AMG wagon is phenomenal. The RS6 looks amazing and has performance to back up the looks. Both great performance cars with a dose of practicality. I hope people buy them both. Not sure though. I’d love for Audi to bring over the RS4 Avant, which will be less costly than the RS6. I applaud Mercedes for remaining faithful to the wagon format for all these years and continuing to bring them to the US. I hope Audi does as well.

I have a B7 A4 Avant S Line and have owned a B6 Avant like your wife's car and in the past owned a CLK55 AMG and I had always lusted for the AMG Wagon but the RS6 is the answer to every wagon lover in this country. Finally the top performing wagon from Audi is here and I want one very badly, but I still lust for that AMG wagon. So to have choices is what is great about being a car person today, we are living in great times to be a car lover. Keep up the Videos really enjoying your content.

Ordered a 2022 E63s but due to supply chain issues and COVID, a lot of options I wanted were unavailable so now I’m just playing the sitting game. The news of MB allocating the twin turbo V8 only to their S class lineage doesn’t help the case either lol

Oh boy, good luck. Hopefully manufacturing gets back on track soon and you can get the spec you want. Eventually!

Great video! The standard RS6 is not to be compared to the E63S in terms or power and sportiness though. The standard RS6 rival is the E63 and the RS6 Performance goes against the E63S. It will be a fair comparison when the RS6 Performance will be out and when Mercedes will be obliged to comply with newer emissions and noise regulations.

Gotcha! That makes sense. Thank you. At the moment, these are the only two variants available in the US. AMG doesn’t make the E63 wagon available here. I wish they did. Hopefully Audi will bring the “performance” version to the US, but that is very uncertain. So at the moment, these are the only versions available to US customers and that makes them direct competitors in this market. I hope we get more options at some point!

That’s a very interesting observation you make... Your point goes to a point I have been making recently.. The automotive industry is heading to a place that I am not generally happy about going to. I can see myself getting off the evolution bus and keeping/restoring some of the vehicles I have. Can you say “Old School Guy”. Never imagined I would qualify for that statement....

@@mrmj4952 Not old school at all. I believe older cars will start being sought after by more automotive enthusiasts for being less complicated hence more reliable, more powerful and with more soul. Who cares about outdated tech?

Yes, the Euro particulate filters are muting the exhaust sound of great performance cars. At the moment, the US doesn’t have those regulations, but time will tell.

@@Joe_Hutchinson I personally think regulators are right to enforce noise level restrictions even though I am a car enthusiast. I can understand how uncomfortable it can be for local residents to get scared and disturbed by exhaust notes sounding like a Kalashnikov having all of its bullets fired. In recent years it's become a real issue in suburbs. I remember seeing one night in Germany two Mercedes AMG SUVs disturbing a peaceful neighbourhood by revving and racing. I did not understand a word but an old couple passing by was obviously cursing them drivers.

@Joe Hutchinson , there is a reason why the RS6 sells a multiple of E63S wagons in the EU... its the total package... its actually comfortable, looks amazing, better cross country car - I also wouldnt use the engine sound as comparison - the C8 A6 was built post the OPF release, so its had to be even more quiet than the benz or m5... when those 2 brands release their brand new equivalents, they will be much quieter too and also have mild hybrids... thats just the way things are going. Also, as you know, Audi will bring out a performance version, which will have 650bhp and be more hard edged... no doubt itll be much more like an M5 comp or E63s.

given I had a choice, I'd choose the Audi every single time. Dontt get me wrong the Benz is a great car but im not too keen on the styling points of the benz. when i drive a car whether its fast or slow, I want to make my presence known. exhaust note its amazing on the AMG but audi will take it again in that dept. because if youre daily driving the car or taking it for a weekend getaway, you dont want to have exhaust note seep into the cabin

The rs6 is a great car. Modern, powerful and well designed. The mercedes looks old and outdated. Good car under the skin but really looks from a différent génération

Why constantly make the same point about the ride and comfort? Ok fine but what about braking, driver interface, seat comfort, in-gear performance, usability, options, running costs, etc.? Maybe next time 😉

Thanks for your comments. Very helpful as I work to improve the content of my videos. The intent of this one was to highlight the different “personalities”these cars have when driving them. You make a point that I could go further with other details and that’s fair. Thanks for watching and for you let comments to help me improve.
