It's a goddamn shame Huawei phones are banned in my country Australia, but man do they make great devices. The engineering of this is insane!

Another remarkable device from Huawei 👍👍. It's great to see them tweakng these devices for the better. Hopefully at one point foldables become less prone to damage. Also become more main stream and affordable. I luv the concept of foldables and it's great that Huawei Are still investiing in the future of this technology.

@@rabbitazteca23 it is though when its pastic, the scratches to the display would get messy real quick unless you keep it in a sleeve
Great review and particularly relieved to hear your opinion on using a phone (even your previous XS) without Google services. It's one of the major considerations I have when looking at this phone and also the MatePad 11. 👍🏼

What I like about Huawei is every time it takes some surprising innovations to the world.
Huawei really are incredible at hardware
Its Amazing how Huawei is still pushing innovation on mobile tech despite being locked out of Google ecosystem

"despite"? You say that as if Google was necessary for tech companies to thrive. It is actually because of the ban that Huawei is moving forward
Regarding the durability of the screen. I have the predecessor the Mate Xs since a few years and at one point I was maybe a bit too confident in its protection and brought it to a beach trip (@TechTablets in NZ actually as I was living there 2020) which the screen survived fine but the sand made te protector very rough and outworn. At one point later (Actually when I arrived back in Germany) the screen protector began to peal itself off from the hinge. Finally at one point I just pealed it off completely. Since then (also almost a year ago) I am using the device without any screen protector but I keep it also in this nice case that you showed here as it became available for the Mate Xs back then when Huawei showed off the Mate X2 for the first time.
All in all even though its an outer display. I am amazed that it survived so long as I am using it just like any other phone nowadays (unlike the first few months where I kept it in the leather pouch that it came with)
That's good to know also maybe you can get a new outer screen protector for it?
@@Techtablets Yeah you can buy some to put it on yourself (which is a bit of tricky). Or you can go to a Huawei store for them to do it. Though I only have one store relatively close which is like almost an hour drive to get there. Probably as the device is a bit older now I even have to pay a bit to get it done.

Nice to see Huawei pushing on with the foldables. I really like the thickness of it folded, it's not brick like like the other variants with makes a more plausible everyday phone. Maybe huawei should consider a slightly smaller version, more pocketable and friendlier price and they would have a winner

How do you install Google play service on huawei phones?
When I tried to play UA-cam videos I can see huge black bars on the top and bottom which reduce the overall video watching experience and content display exponentially 😅 does anyone know if expanding the screen view while watching videos is possible by any chance?

Chris, absolutely splendid review as always. My only qualm is about gspace. Please do remember that it acts as man in the middle between you and Google. Therefore I would not recommend you to input your details. As someone who has been using Huawei phones without Google for 2 years, there is a better solution for this. Of course some of your Google apps will have to work without your profile but I think it's a good trade off. So two things... One is to download the aurora store for all your Google applications. The Other is to download and setup MICROG. Within this is a setting called cloud messaging. Go inside click on receive push notifications and everything will arrive from every single app that requires gms (besides Viber... This one you just have to keep in memory and locked otherwise no notifications)
Give it a try next time. I think you will be very impressed. There will be no performance hiccups, nothing like This. And you can update your applications as though you're using the Google play store.
Definitely the future , I'd love one but cant justify buying one for well over 1k for the device. The cover solution isn't good enough yet. At the moment I still use a phone Poco and tablet Samsung S8 ultra. I'll continue to wait .
Can we load full gms services.. I have installed in my huawei mate x2 but not sure if I can do with xs2.. N secondly pls do camera comparison of huawei x2 vs xs 2

For people that are afraid of how unprotected the screen of this phone is, I can tell you that you have nothing to worry about. With minimum care, you should have a scratch free phone for some time to come. The screen protector and the case do a good job and if you don't like this bulky case then there's one which sits firmly on the sides and protects the screen from getting scratched when putting the phone on a table for example. Outward folding phones are the future and the reason is, they are cheaper to make and a lot smaller than the inward folding ones..

Appreciate the video but and outer folding screen was a crazy idea the first time and Im shocked they did it again lol. Living on borrowed time until the screen gets damaged for sure

I'm not particularly keen on foldables in the first place, but I certainly wouldn't consider one with the screen on the outside
@Carl Gunderson screen technology isn't anywhere near durable enough yet for an outward facing screen, it's barely fit for the job on an inward facing one
@@parshakamarsh ngl I'm using the Z Fold 3 for like 6 months now and while the outer glass screen has a scratch on the protector, the inner screen is absolutely fine. Apart from attracting more fingerprints, it has no scratches. Probably because it's protected as its inward facing
isnt your normal non-foldable phone has a screen that's always exposed and outside anyway?
@@rabbitazteca23 he meant foldable screens are softer and easier to scratch. Not a problem if it's facing inwards, definitely a issue if it's outwards like this vid

You can update them via petal search it will fine new updated apks. I'm also seriously thinking about buying the global model once out in Spain the design is impressive. Wifi calling works yes but with which app?
@@Techtablets thanks so much for the info. It was wifi calling when you have no carrier signal. My signal at home is very poor. Seems there is a work around for almost everything. Haven't found anything for andriod auto, any ideas??

It is yes very certain of that it feels better and it's like what my Mate X2 has which is holding up so much better than my Fold 2 or 3 did.

Mine is coming in a week. I am actually still wondering myself why i ordered one. The screen being too exposed might give me anxiety everyday while owning this phone haha.. i don't see myself using the case.
How do you think the durability can hold so far? Though i am always careful with my phones. My fold and flip phones seems to be okay still after long period of use.
Also not having the playstore and those of google services will be something new for me. I hope i won't be regretting this knowing that samsung unpack for fold 4 and flip 4 is just in 6 days from now.

I think that this implementation of foldable phones is much better, for my opinion. Is more versatile and practical rather than the inner foldable display.
I think so it's the best foldable design and use of the screen. No need for two screens.

Material of backcover is fiberglass. It is lighter than leather. The main point is reducing the weight.
i can't believe the MS Duo didn't go with this design vs. the insane bad one they ended up with. even with hinges and a gap it would be fine.

Apps are slower to load and will sue a bit more battery if left open.
Huawei smartphone love it , good performance and spec but only one cons for all huawei smartphone is no google service embedded out of the box..

This is going to be the final form of foldables like this, I just know it. But not today, the screen durability isn't there yet, I'd be way too afraid to use this thing out and about.

How does this phone compare to the Vivo X Fold?
I like the design and software better. The X Fold is faster and has better cameras plus lastest chipset and 5G support

@@Techtablets I agree! you don't need the extra screen like you do on inward foldables. and, the phone can be thinner while the screen crease is less visible due to having a wider radius to fold around.
Plenty of phones have glass backs anyway, so I don't see the problem. I would only worry about dropping it right on the edge of the fold. otherwise it should fine!
I had this. Very nice screen, very light. Loved the design. The only problem for me, the selfie cam is so not acceptable....

It's a great iteration, but still, for a 2 in 1 device it needs more battery juice, and needs extra protection for those screens and edges. I would hate to shell our 2,000 euros and get it all damaged.

Yes i almost tried to in fold it but you can use to it and it strong enough that you wouldn't break it under normal pressure.
Can't wait for the day I buy a Foldable Smartphone when they come down in price.
I hope they do drop, but I also don't want to see this outer fold design killed off in favor of the inner fold ones only.
Fold phones are great if they close inwards.

It was covered in the video. Less bulk, smaller size and much better in the folded form as a more normal phone size. Downside is the phone is more prone to damage, but with time as the tech progresses with better stronger outer layers this won't be as big of an issue.
@@Techtablets I had the Mate XS a while ago. If you are carefull when using the device, there is no chance to damage it. I`m on a Fold 3 since November last year, but craving after fold from Huawei. In my opinion, the built quality and camera`s on a Huawei device are above what Samsung can offer.
About these foldables i wish some company came up with a Windows foldable 🤧
Outer fold is the superior version of a foldable. Now if the screen was more durable....
I really wish they’d have some flip detection and have customizable widgets on the back of the screen when folded, seems like unused real estate
Also I feel like adding the front selfie camera was a silly decision. I mean for real, you had a full screen phone and decided to add a fucking whole punch for literally no reason?

I really like the design but honestly, it being outwards folding it just makes it more fragile and not practical because of this. For 2000 euro, it has last years SOC which is not a huge issue, but no periscope camera and both telephoto and ultrawide could be higher megapixel for this much money. All things considered I dont think its worth it, I think the Vivo X Fold, Honor Magic V, Mate X2 and even the Fold 3 are much much better options and almost all of them are way cheaper than the XS2, especially the Fold 3 which can be bought new from Ebay for like a 1000 euro or even less.
Nevertheless great review though!
You have the Chinese version you can natively install GMS without the crappy G space that uses a lot of battery.
