Lifelong Milwaukee resident here, MPM was my everything growing up, and it breaks my heart that this current iteration won't be accessible to future generations. Hopefully the new location will be a fraction of its predecessor. Their staff is wonderful and brilliant, so I am excited to see what they build for us!
I’m museum studies student at UWM and have class at the MPM. The biggest reason why they’re moving is when the MPM was built, they built water pipers over multiple collections spaces, not proper air flow in other areas. It’s just an old building
I recall taking a field trip up there when i was in grade school (Lake Co, IL) around 1980 - need to make another trip up ASAP! Thanks for jogging the dust off my memory bank.
This is how museum suppose to look like. More taxidermy and less screen 🔥🔥 I'm soo happy you and Jack got to spend time together reminiscing your memories about museum 🥳❤❤
Born and raised in mikwaukee and the "old streets" exhibit was my favorite. Got to take my kids to see it years later..also remember the dinosaur exhibit was awesome too when i was a kid..
Getting rid of that is definitely a move to eliminate the history of Milwaukee’s traditional communities before the Great Migration sorta ruined what the city once was.
Streets of Old Milwaukee will forever be my favorite museum exhibit ever. I love it so much and I was so heartbroken when they announced that it won't be transferred to the new location.
I love this museum... The exhibits are so cool and well done. I was inspired as a kid and made tons of dioramas. I will be really sad to see it go. The museum belongs in a museum.
Recently moved back to Milwaukee after half a decade in Phoenix. Was able to take my toddler and nephews to MPM over the holidays and getting to see my son run through the Streets of Old Milwaukee before they are gone warmed my soul.
The pow wow worked a little before COVID happened. I did a sleepover at the museum, I was in the bird exibit but had to pass the pow wow to get back to it multiple times. THEY HAD THE POW WOW AUDIO GOING ALL NIGHT!
Thanks for sharing, Jacob. Great to see your brother Jack as well. Your visits to the Milwaukee Public Museum are always a lot of fun! I especially enjoy the Streets of Old Milwaukee. Merry Christmas!
Like you, this museum is a big part of my childhood. Every year in grade school a fieldtrip there, plus times there with my family. Thank you for making this video!
This is a core memory from my youth. Our school visited this museum back in the day. The old world streets was mind blowing to me. I thank you for sharing this ❤
My brother and I went there a month or two ago. The main exhibits never change but it's always like I'm seeing it for the first time. I saw the plans for the new place and ugh. It won't be the same.
Love these old museums also.Very cool village houses and displays. Love the diaremas. Truly an incredibile museum! It is huge! I see similarity in your brother.
I love your love for this museum! I was obsessed with it since I was a kid. Very very sad to see it go, but I’m glad I got to share it with my young niece and nephews before the big change!

Thank you for providing a visual record of the current museum. I’ll miss the things that aren’t moving to the new location, but at least I can see them again in your video
Thank you for the spotlight! MPM is seriously underrated. It’s a great museum and I really worry that the new building will be sterile and less engaging.
I absolutely love the MPM. I just moved to the area and didn't have the highest expectations for it but I was blown away by the collection, the information that's presented, the immersion of all the exhibits. Easily one of the best attractions in the entire city.
I've ALWAYS loved your trips to The Milwaukee Public Museum ❤ my favorite has always been the old time street display. It makes me feel all warm & cozy. Enjoy your Christmas 🎄 with the family. Merry Christmas to all. ✌️❤️🙂
I thought CB might be overcompensating for nostalgia, but this museum REALLY is amazing. Probably shouldn't have doubted the guy with an "eum rule". Thanks for the walk though!
I’ve so many fond memories of this museum growing up. Was obsessed with the streets of old Milwaukee. I jumped at the chance to accompany my 8 year old and her school for a field trip to the museum and got to watch her reactions to seeing all the great things this museum has to offer.
It seems kind of fitting that the box for your new laptop says in search of incredible, j Jacob, because that's exactly what you do. You search out all the incredible places in this great country of ours, and you're kind enough to share it with us. You have my sympathies for the museum moving. I can't imagine how upset I'd be if my childhood museums were irrevocably changing like that. Merry Christmas my friend and much love.
Sadly, it will be difficult. An old family friend worked at MPM and had opportunities to take backstage tours. He explained that Streets of Old Milwaukee has quite a bit of it as part of the building. The new MPM will have a newer retelling of Streets. I am looking forward to the new museum. The building itself will be amazing.
@@jbponzi1 no disrespect but despite the difficulties that does not mean cannot be done it is the will of the people let this old Milwaukee Street move to the new one the new museum Old Milwaukee exhibit is nothing more than a screening of Old Milwaukee Street it's not going to be a real life version like the one we have now
What I love about the MPM is that it's so big and the exhibits so elaborate, that you can find something new every time you go, especially in Streets of Old Milwaukee. I've been to a lot of museums and nothing compares to the MPM. The exhibits are so impressive, so full of life, that when you walk through it feels like you're visiting someplace else. I was born in 1952 and remember the old museum in the Public Library. I remember the T Rex eating the other dino when it was a new exhibit. I was fearful of mannequins but then I did taxidermy and had mannequins of my own in the 1970's. I was invited to the Museum art dept. where I learned how to make mannequins. This museum is a sensation of the senses. Should be designated a Historic Landmark. The unbelievable artistry and attention to detail in those dioramas is incredible. The whole ambient feel and discovering something at every turn.

I just discovered the creepy cat next to the barbershop after wondering where he was hiding and meowing from. The gory T-Rex display is stellar!

Been coming here since I was a kid and knew all these Easter eggs, everything just gives me such a warm feeling about this place. It definitely will never feel the same again
My favorite museum, too. The Streets of Old Milwaukee are too cool. And the European Village is very accurate as far as costumes, food, and surroundings are depicted. Thank you for the nice tour. If you want the butterflies to land on you, you have to hold very quiet and still, not turning round and round yelling How Do I Get Them To Land On Me. 😁😄
My grandfather was one of the artists who worked at the museum, and he died before I was born. Going to the museum and seeing the murals and figures he worked on was the way I connected to him as a child. To say I'm devastated that his work is going to be destroyed is an understatement. Thank you for sharing your fantastic videos with all of us throughout the years. I absolutely love your video of The Milwaukee Public Museum. I'm a lot older than you & your brother--but man oh man did the memories come flooding back. Love Old Milwaukee & the entire wonderful tour. I believe I was freaked out by the shrunken heads as a kid also. There was something there in one of the display cases that was embedded for nightmares in my overreactive brain as a kid. That was the little stone-like mermaid that was in a glass case. It was made to seem like it was real at one time & turned to stone....then again maybe my overactive childhood brain.
We’ve been visiting the MPM since the 1970s and continue to this day!! So many wonderful memories over the years!! I understand why they’re moving its location but it’ll never be the same!! 😢 Thanks for sharing!!!
Great old building the original front doors were where the butterfly wing is now. I have been coming to that museum since we could take the bus. We spent the whole day there then went to the old Butter Bun restaurant on Wisconsin Ace. Caught three 66 bus back to Cudahy. We did this almost every Saturday. We were probably about 12 years old. I’m 73 now so 60 years and what the heck. They don’t want to move the Streets of Milwaukee? That’s pathetic. Such a grand old place.
The Milwaukee Public Museum has been and believe it continues to be inspiration for natural history museums. The style is known as the Milwaukee Diorama.
Born and raised in Milwaukee. Made me happy when, The Vilolent Femmes - Childern of the Revolution used the famous dinosaur display in their video. Watch the ending if you don't know the song/video. It's a cover song.
Simba didn't live at the MPM, he lived on the fourth floor of the Milwaukee Public Library, which is where my wife works now. Timba was also displayed at the MPL before being moved to the MPM.

Milwaukee public museum is fantastic It’s a shame they’re gonna move and the streets of old Milwaukee won’t be there as well, but I can’t wait to see their new building.
when i was younger i have been there probably a good half a dozen times but i haven't been there in many years. I would say i haven't been there since around 1994-96 time frame. my dad did taxidermy on the side so i grew up with lots of that stuff in our house. lots of stuff i haven't seen but there is lots of stuff i remember too though. thanks for taking me back in time.
I’m early 1970s Waukesha-born who OF COURSE had the obligatory school field trips to MPM, along with occasional family trips (esp w/G&G.!) In the late 90s, after college & moving to Milw, the Butterfly Wing was new & so I suggested it as a 2nd date activity to a special fella I’d begun dating. Abt decade later, that fella & I returned to visit the butterflies, with our 7yo twins…. and 2 years after THAT, I was chaperoning our kids’ school field trip to MPM. It’s a super special place. Thank you for recording this. 🙂🙏
Fun fact my teacher assistant from elementary school said that since she was Native American the museum used here face to make one of the native Americans in the pow wow 47:17
I think I've been there. I REMEMBER THE BEAVER DEN!. One of the Buffalo used to have an arrow in its side... I feel like I remember the secret rattle snake button...
Been going there since 1977. I was a kid on my first visit. Brought my kids over the years and now I'll have to get my grandkids there this year. It's a great place! Thanks for the video!
I grew up in this museum. The T. rex used to scare the living daylights out of me, but I still loved her. It has some of the best taxidermy dioramas out there! My native Mestiza grandma would always MARVEL at the Pueblo exhibit, as it unlocked some old memories in her. At some points in my life I’ve been there so much I nearly became an exhibit. 😂Prehistoric megafauna & animals are a special interest of mine, as I have autism, so, while this is going to be very bittersweet for me to say goodbye to a place that has bits of my very soul ingrained into, I am also hoping to one day work for the new establishment in the near future 🦕 🦖
please don't ever take this video down! i am definitely going to come back to this once we can no longer visit this museum
The T-rex scene is a childhood memory that is burned into my mind forever.

I would say i haven't been there since around 1994-96 time frame. my dad did taxidermy on the side so i grew up with lots of that stuff in our house. lots of stuff i haven't seen but there is lots of stuff i remember too though. thanks for taking me back in time.
Amazing museum. Thanks, Jacob.
20:26 That creepy cat legitimately would’ve made me scream lol
I’m had no idea this place existed! 😮 I want to visit so bad.
thanks for sharing. makes me sad im missing places like this 😢 hidden gems across the continent that wont always be there
Fun fact my teacher assistant from elementary school said that since she was Native American the museum used here face to make one of the native Americans in the pow wow

Hey carpet bagger love your content . Would you consider visiting more museums. And zoos thankyou . Have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year
I think I've been there. I REMEMBER THE BEAVER DEN!. One of the Buffalo used to have an arrow in its side... I feel like I remember the secret rattle snake button...
I live in Wisconsin, it's been a long time that I've been to the museum. Your cousin Bren mentioned your channel
What a trip down memory lane!! Thank you for posting!!
Awesome museum, Jacob!!!
😂Prehistoric megafauna & animals are a special interest of mine, as I have autism, so, while this is going to be very bittersweet for me to say goodbye to a place that has bits of my very soul ingrained into, I am also hoping to one day work for the new establishment in the near future 🦕 🦖
lived in Racine and Milwaukee Museum was our annual school trip along with Milwaukee zoo
