Fire's light cav needing to jump on Modri's monk army early is just like Star Craft Brood War when Zerg and Protoss need to just throw unit after unit at Siege Tank armies to keep them from getting too huge to stop.
Red didn't optimise his eco at all. He had no idea what was going on. I was hoping for a second castle which he could have easily placed with his excess stone and treb the monks out of their range or something. He was clearly bamboozled by that many monks.

I couldn't help thinking that building mass skirmishers against mass monks would have been a better choice especially if you have the better economy. After all, they can only convert one unit each and skirmishers are less effective against themselves than light cavalry are.
Fire_de had so many good chances to engage against those monks, but kept backing off. It was painful to watch as he kept letting it spiral further out of control. ^^;
He was hoping to catch Modri while he was looking at his eco, but Modri always reacted nearly instantly. Fire_de was correctly dodging losing engagements. Those monk conversions come in faster than you'd expect. Fire_de should not have invested in armor or pikes, and probably should have gone for heresy, but monk pushes are difficult to play against, and it's easy to second-guess the pros after they lose.

is it just me or did red royaly fuck up? if he made some more light cavs in castle age and started going aggressive he might have been able to stop this. 4 more light cavs would make every trade worth it, blue loses 100 gold per unit, a resources that is not infinite while red only loses a renewable resource. the army he had in the end should have been in castle age. memes and cheese gotta be combated with memes and cheese
