This is the first video in a 5 part series of wrist shot training videos. Each video will target a different area of your shot to help you improve your technique and power.
In this video we are targeting the wrists, which are often under utilized. The wrists help add a little extra power and extra accuracy.
Thanks for the video Jeremy. My 10 year old son is starting ice hockey this year and he's having trouble getting anything into his shot. We're on our way outside now to give this a try and build from there.
dose he play for NHL now

I've been trying to teach my son how to lift the puck properly for months and he would just get frustrated. This video explains it better then I ever could. After watching it with him once, we went outside and tried this drill. Out of 50 shots he was able to get 40 of them over the 2x12 I put in front of the net. He even got a few in the top corners! Thank you so much for all the work you put into these videos!
This is an awesome training tool for my son who started playing hockey 3 years ago! He has a shooting mat with rebound and this is exactly what he needed to really utilize this tool! Thank you so much for braking it down and simplifying so they can really get the feel for the movements! Looking forward to more videos from you!
I don't know why I haven't found this video earlier, despite look and searching for similar vids. But this series is the best instruction I've seen on not just the mechanics of shooting, but how to practice it. Too bad it's midnight when I'm watching this, I want to go out and practice now!
Man I LOVE your vids. After being out of hockey for so long, and never getting the basics down, these have helped me so much.
7 years later and he still helping me
I need help. My shots off the ice are consistent and I am able to generate power. But on the ice it's a 50/50 chance I get off a good shot. Sometimes I'll roof a shot or snipe but other times it flukes and goes over the net or slides on the ice.
awwwww1231 don’t roll your wrist that’s what flick the shot just let it roll off your blade fast
Mysterious Bread not how it works
awwwww1231 you can keep rolling your wrist but point with the stick where you want it
awwwww1231 same
Thanks I appreciate this very much! I'm brand new at hockey and I've been trying to learn it all on my own. I've been thinking push and flick in my head. I guess that's right. I was thinking somebody had to learn all this in the beginning by themselves, but thank God I don't have to reinvent the wheel and have your excellent tutorials to guide me. Thanks again you're a huge help!!!
Out of all of them I watched this one actually explained and helped. Thanks!
Jeremy, I love your Hockey Videos! Am so excited to work on improving my shot! Last year you helped me score more goals! This year I'm hoping for more consistency & of course scoring goals!
Thank you very much, I do ice hockey since 5 years now and i always went in défense because my shooting was terrible, now that I understand how to shoot properly I can maybe finally go forward 💪💪💪
Hey Jeremy thanks man this has really helped me in game situations .
Amazing tips, definitely improved my wristshot! Great video.
Thank you coach Jeremy! This is very useful 🙏🏻
Loving the new channel!
Great video! I just started using it with my shooting pad in the garage and see significantly improved power and control.
Can you share a similar video on the backhand? Personally, I have always found it much harder to get aim and lift on the backhand.
should you practice taking shots with your gloves on? or doesn't it matter?
I think u should practice with ur gloves on
Yea you not gunna play hokcey wifout yo gluvz

Great work! The more Rupke the better! Hockey scores again with another great development site
Sounds like a book review, thanks Jim!
Hey Coach Jeremy I take your videos and your skill and your effort to teach very seriously, I am 12 years old and live in Madison, AL and I play at the Huntsville ice plex. I would really enjoy to meet up one day because you make up 70% of my hockey training, My name is Ethan and I'm a big sniper and playmaker and I would enjoy to try to train together one day, thanks.
How’s the hockey journey coming along?
Good video Jermey! I found this video really helpful and in working on my wristshot
hey jeremy thanks for all the video. it helped me alot
Great job Jeremy! Thanks from Kazakhstan!
Jeremy, when snapping the wrist, is it done only with the top hand like in stick handling, or do you want to use both wrists to generate the proper amount of power?
Thank you Jeremy! This video helped a lot and now I will use this lesson
Definitely thought it was closed, open, closed all my life. This is a great confirmation, thank you.
Jeremy, your vids are awesome, thanks bro, have helped me immensely
Great video! What happened to the garage synthetic ice setup?
Synthetic ice is in, dasher boards are on the way. I shot these videos while the garage was "under construction". I'll be doing videos inside and out.
okay sweet
Cant wait
+The Hockey Movement by How To Hockey Where should the puck be on the blade when starting the shot?
+hockeyrules9 99 It should be on the heel of the toe
Dude thank you this made me score 9 goals
That’s called an Ovechtrick! Look up the old Ovechtrick Verizon commercial. That’s some good stuff man keep it up
Thanks you
I have a a fastest shot competition and this helped thank you
Wow thanks man I'm a hockey player and now I score alot we won 5-0
this helps me do hokey a lot
Let's go 1vid from =awesome and the best hockey player
I watched this video when I was in novice and this taught me to shoot cause I could never lift the puck, first practice after watching this I could lift the puck. Now I’m in first year midget 10th year playing
Thanks for the vid Jeremy! I still have a doubt about the bottom hand, how stff should it grab the stick ? If it try shoot with the bottom hand a bit loose ( so the stick rolls a bit in my hand at the end ) the shot come off better and I have more accuracy, but I feel that I´m loosing some power, If I try to grab it harder I loose a lot of control and sometimes I cannot even lift the puck. Wich would be the correct way to do it ? Thanks !
same question here, the wrist snap is done mainly with top hand like in stick handling, or with both hands ? thanks !
thetazchan Both the power comes from your bottom hand, you want to yank your top hand back (not downwards) for a good shot. Better if you land your knee on the ice
GREAT VIDEO COACH. NEW SUBSCRIBER
Do you need a low or correct flex to get height in your shot? I am a beginner and when I bought my stick I didn't really understand flex at the time and I now realize I have a really large flex, and I can't get height to save my life, I have watched all of the videos and have tried really hard the techniques explained, and it seems so simple, just roll your wrists but for some reason it's just not working for me, is it as simple as it looks and sounds because I have put in some hard hours practicing just to get height, and still no height.
Thanks so much for the video and the videos ur going to make! Looking forward to it. I'm also excited cause I just got the new Bauer mx3
Awesome i will try it in my training now
Hi Jeremy, can we use soft pucks ?
Thanks coach!
When ever i shoot the puck i always flips and turns in the air, is that a good thing?
No
thank you this video helped me to get my first goal
Does it matter where you pull the puck from... heel vs toe? Or does it depend on the type of curve your stick has ? I'm only talking about initial starting position? I find based on different sticks I use I will have different tenancies . Just curious . Great videos!
What's the difference between the 2 body positions in this video ? The one facing the goalie and the one where you are perpendicular to it ?
Sweet, thanks
It’s been 4 years i didn’t do my wrist shot wrong holly thanks
Nice vid
Ive got to thank you for all the vids and the time you put into making them all! I've been watching your channel for ages and they have helped my shooting and overall game no end! i was just wondering about using roller skates to practice off ice, i don't live near the rink and I'm from the uk so we never get weather cold enough to freeze anything over. i live in a village with nothing much around other than a few car parks and some road, do you think using skates will help my ice skating?
cheers!
Roller blades will help you separate your upper body's work shooting while you stabilize your lower body. Can't hurt to try. I'm going to do it now that you mentioned it.
On those shooting pads when stick handling do the pucks stay flat
Hey Jeremy, I am a total newbie to hockey. I am right-handed and I like to know whether I should buy a right-handed or a left-handed hockey stick. I have been told both ways and I am really confused. Please advise and thank you.
Have you tried to get into the NHL?
Maybe that’s not what he wants to do in life
shit for brains facts
Hoping its not too late to ask,.. at 1.50 you start talking about the wrist.... is that referring to the top hand wrist (for you that is right hand) or bottom hand?
what type of stick are you using?
Jermey when's your new video coming out? Always something to learn.
Owen Oakley please sub to me if you can
good morning Jeremy oh plus thanks for the teachings
what are you using to put the puck on?
Sinthetic ice
Where do you get your shirts?
Omg! Now i have amazing wrist suot!!
Thanks!
You freakin rock.
Cool video
Just got back in to the fun of shooting some pucks and skating, just skated like 12 hours last week and I've been seeing my slappers increase, but my wrist shot has been dog water always
Great video! You know I realized something. This is the only thing I do when I shoot. Like I only use my wrists and I get no power. Maybe you could help with that?
kingofthed3 Stay tuned for the next 4 videos, you'll be ripping shots in no time!
Sir, do you use both hands to do snap motion? Or only botom hand?
And one more thing. Do you put strengh when you cap the puck from above or it is
a soft cap?
I want to be more then just "ok shooter". So i start with your step by step program.
Thank you for your vids, btw. That's the only source i can really get so then i can test my "backyard homework" on ice when i travel to other cities in my country :)
Go watch some Connor Bedard or Auston Matthews and you'll figure it out! They truly have mastered the art of wrist shot!
Is this an open air rink?
Do u go for chicago?
Wait till his balance if off on one leg shift body wait and push or just all out lay into him getting low first! Let's go
pozdrowienia z Polski Best regards from Polsand
The new video looks great.. is that a 5d mark II you are shooting with? looks great dude congrats on the new channel! --- Brent #uch
Nope, I couldn't bring myself to drop that much on a camera! I read amazing reviews on the Canon 70D for shooting video so I picked one up used. Really happy with it so far.
Cool... the canon 70d is what I shoot with... Well I shoot my head shot stuff with... the canon 50mm 1.4 lens works great with it... -- Brent
When you remove tape and it leaves the blade sticky does it ruin the sticks performance?
Robby Georgouses it doesn't ruin the performance and u should retape ur stick once you can see the bottom of your blade
Hey thanks you just changed everything for me you need more love🥰
1:40 Um... I thought shots aren't supposed to be "fluttery".
Mr. Master-Me this is showing how to only use the wrists / movement to control the puck. Notice the "step 1" part of the title. Watch the full series to see the shot progress and become more powerful
@@CoachJeremy Jeremy, most of your shots here aren't fluttery at all. I wish I could produce 20% of your art of wrist flick shooting
Does it matter what shot you take
what mat do you use
Pro sized shooting pad from Hockey Shot - www.hockeyshot.com/Hockey_Shooting_Pads_s/70.htm?Click=16883
The technique shown here doesn't look possible on ice. Is this only street hockey instruction? Do you stop, turn sideways, then take this shot?
great
Hey, I am looking for some solid tips for hockey. Embarrassing as it is, I am turning 16 soon and still have the worst time when trying to get some good height and power for a shot... I can raise the puck maybe to knee level... I have no idea what I am doing wrong, I've tried many, many times to flick my wrists quickly but the shot doesn't have ANY power involved!
It takes A LOT of shots to get the right timing. Not only does practice build strength, it also improves the rhythm and timing required to do it right. A lot is happening all at once so you need LOTS of practice.
Thank you so much for the tip! I got my EZ Hockey Net that you reviewed today and plan on practicing SOON!
And workout!!!
Thx
you did a flick on the wrist movement
am I to old to play hockey (start) if I'm 14
Chas Crowghost I started when I was 11 I score now and I'm 13 it shouldn't take to long to get good but I would say your still ok with starting at 14 good luck!
I started when I was 32. Any age can start playing hockey :)
Chas Crowghost I started when I was 6years old and now I am 11
Definitely not. My teammate just started playing at 16
Etherious What league are u in?
I've been trying this a lot, I follow everything he says but it doesn't work for me. Is it because I have a wooden stick that's too heavy and sluggish or is it just me? Thx
It could just be a problem with strength in general. You can make it a point to practice this for a few minutes before every shooting session. It will come with time.
Thx man. But is it definite that my stick is not messing me up?
Pikapoo76 the stick can also play a factor, wood sticks are heavier and will be a bit harder to get that quick movement. If the blade is broken that can also effect the shot
great video can you do another giveaway
Does the shooting pad move a lot when shooting? Thinking of getting one
Open, close, release! Aim with a flick of the wrist and I want a speedometer!
Quick question isn't that like just flicking it so how com you don't use your whole body to take the shot?
Дацук лучший
Can you make a new shooting video
Does this mean howtohockey is done? Are you quitting the old channel and moving to this one or running both at once?
Running both, How To Hockey is my personal channel, this one is more of a community, featuring and showcasing lots of instructors and creative hockey minds rather than just me.
Oh yeah sorry meant to say 'Stick' not shooting lol stupid auto correct ahah
