This was a great interview. Very honest. The one thing I'd say is that I don't think everyone knows what makes them different at first. I spent a year NOT starting my blog because I was trying to clarify my angle. Finally I said screw it and started writing. The angle came to me later.

The more I get closer to my calling, the more I actually feel similar to the many people I attract into my life also making me realize how connected we truly are! This mindset made it really hard for me to think of three things that make me unique - But here they are!
    1. I coach people on how to be their best selves on UA-cam!
    2. I started making candles because I loved to meditate with them, and now I make mantra candles that also have a mantra inside to pass on to someone else.
    3. I love making beautiful plant based foods - I also cater vegan foods & bartend at a vegan bistro called Sage in LA.

I haven't been connected with Marie in a while. This interview reminds me of why I fell in love with her videos! I want to finally start making a living with my passion and that is to also became a business consultant.
    1. I teach people for free all of the time and it comes naturally.
    2. I always make sense to people. I believe that it's because I deliver my message clearly and concisely.
    3. I am a natural-born problem solver.

I'll be launching a personal development blog in the summer this year. Three things that make me unique:
    1. I grew up in a foster home, and in poverty. At age 17, I left on my own and never looked back. I became at expert at personal development, living minimal and perceiving the world in new ways because of my struggles to find identity and peace of mind. It was no easy challenge!
    2. I have a degree in social justice and want to mix it with my personal development knowledge to help people start their own personal revolution.
    3. This year my husband and I are finalizing our location independent businesses so we can become nomadic. We are converting a shuttle bus into a traveling home by next summer!! I will have a UA-cam channel, podcast and blog to run all about raising consciousness and living intentionally with compassion and love.

What makes me unique is my experience in varied fields as a designer, an artist, a mother, a daughter. I have a natural ability for vision, light, flow and space. I am unique in my sensitivity to the environment around me inside and out. I have a natural ability to create with energy in how things feel and look. Thanks for the great interview Marie as always!!

I'm a passionate culture enthusiast. I know culture is the big to-do these days, but a few years ago, not so much. I've never apologized for loving the city and culture I grew up in (Los Angeles & Filipino). I started a couple of my business based on this confidence, even when many people, to my disappointment, wanted me to conform to their idea of what was acceptable or ok. I was almost defiant about it. Don't doubt yourself and your instincts.

Loved the video ladies! I think Grace is totally right about needing to figure out the thing that sets you apart from others doing the same thing. So in response to your question, Marie, 3 things that make me unique: 1: I used to live in rural China, 2: I am just as comfortable behind a camera as I am in front of one, and 3: I am creative and analytical - I can design a website but then I can also do all the computer programming to support it!

Thank you, Marie and Grace, for such a beautiful message!
Three things that make me unique are:
    1. I have an uncanny ability to help people look beneath the surface of who they think they are and uncover who they truly are. It is my mission to honor my truth by helping others honor theirs.
    2. I am a research ninja! I'm pretty sure I was trained from birth as an unofficial official CIA agent. All jokes aside, I truly love to go in-depth and learn everything that I can!
    3. I am a grounded free spirit who loves and values experience over anything else and am continuously challenging myself by welcoming new adventures into my life!

Natalies Outlet - How on earth can I get my hair to look like that Natalie darling? Have you done a tutorial on that style by any chance? My hair is definitely long and curly enough. I just wouldn't know where to start with it. Is it just a high pony that you've sectioned off?
Goodness gracious girlie, you're gorgeous! I watched the green smoky eye video on your channel just now and am now officially a Natalie fan. :)
I would have to agree with what you wrote (not that you were asking, but ...) You are very knowledgeable about beauty and I appreciate the way you marry that with your humor. I felt like the one video of yours that I've watched so far did bring me some empowerment in the sense of seeing a beautiful woman share her expertise, humor and passion for what she loves in such a powerful way.
Hey ... that reminds me a lot of Marie! :)) Power to you Natalie love! xo

    Bragging rights:

    2. I am a marketing coach and public relations agent from suburban Mississauga, Ontario in Canada.
    3. I like to interview people and even do so unintentionally. I am genuinely interested in my client's life and business. I have been interviewing people since I was 6 years old.

My question is for Grace (or Marie's team if they can answer it for me): When you mentioned you teach classes live where do she teach them? You don't have an office so do you rent space? That's what I'm coming up against with my teaching. I don't have a studio, don't really want one, but need a place to teach when I do teach groups. Thanks! (I realize this question comes months after this video was posted but I thought I'd ask anyways). Thanks for the great interview ladies, K.

This was SO inspiring - thank you! I used to work as a beauty editor at the South African edition of Oprah magazine, but I resigned at the end of 2013 to focus on my blog, For The Beauty Of It, full-time. I now also manage the social media accounts for several South African beauty and baby companies, as well as working on my blog and a relatively new UA-cam channel. What makes me stand out from all the other beauty bloggers out there? I have a background in magazines, I've recently embraced beauty-without-cruelty (so no more brands that test on animals will be featured on my blog or UA-cam channel), and I have a keen interest in yoga and all things spiritual. :)

    1. Creative - since I was little I was in art. I won 1st place for a poster contest in elementary school out of the entire school, my art was always voted and graded by the class receiving 100s on my work and I attended 2 semster of Art Insititue of Houston. I wish I had finished in graphic design b/c now there are all these bloggers / designers now with online business I could have utilitized years ago.
    2. Outspoken - Cheerleader, Drill Tea, Senior Spirit Club and dancer on a hip hop squad in Houston. Need I say more? I'm pretty darn outspoken with a down to earth personality. I always have something to say and love to converse with others. If it's positive news I don't just say "hey congrats" to a friend, I go further in depth about reminding her how special it is to come a long way from where she was to make the moment more special.
    3. Entrepreneural Spirit - I am a risk taker. Sure I've done some not so responsible things in my life but at least I lived and learned to FIX them, LOL:) I've always been a self helper looking for the information or video or podcast I need to turn myself around when things are mundane in my life. I"m glad i'm like that because there are some who just do not know how to get themselves out of a run or change their careers and they continue to stay unhappy. Our lives are meant to be lived, so why do the same thing every day for years and years?

First thanks Marie this was AMAZING and thanks Grace- been reading Design Sponge for like 7 years!
What makes me unique has to be my voice. I have a food blog, but it is not just about food. It has come to manifest itself in ALL my passions: fitness, food and craft beer with some inspiration too.
I bring the fun to healthy eating. My motto is healthy food with an attitude. I attribute the 'tude to how I talk and what I write about. It's a more fun and realistic approach to healthy living.
I bring a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to all I do. I loved how you talk about diversifying. I see my blog as mot a blog, but a brand and small business.
Be it a NY Foodgasm event to a TV show, the possibilities are endless!

I was dealt a very interesting hand in life. I have rather extreme weaknesses but also incredible strengths. It's as if my life was mapped out by an experienced tactician. My motto is: I'm slow to start but when I'm up and running, I'm very hard to stop. Speaking of which, here are the three things which make me incredibly unique:
1: I think with my ears. I swear, I have more neural connections in my brain between sound and learning than I can count. Music and sound of various kinds get all this machinery working in my head, from the depths of abstract thought, which helps me come up with really great ideas. 3 years of experience in sound design has helped to accentuate this as well.
2: People underestimate my potential all the time because my reserve capacity is tremendous and I call upon it only when absolutely necessary. Typically, this power manifests in response to a challenge, crisis, or a threat. I get tripped up over little stuff all the time but if you give me a reason to show my serious side, I will shock you with what I'm capable of doing. I can look a formidable challenge square in the eye and say "Challenge Accepted" if I'm determined to accomplish the thing I'm doing.
3: When I was 23, a marketing CEO once told me that the fact I had my head screwed on right at a young age is an enormous blessing, and he's not the only one to comment on that. I'm always hungry for wisdom and anything I can learn to better myself and help those I care about. I guess you could say I have an innate desire to learn.
Other unique strengths I have are a keen sense of justice, being able to bring out the best in other people, charisma that stems from my lighthearted and jesterly sense of humor, and an incredible depth of vision as to where I want to go in life. I plan to write and produce cartoons, and use them to teach people something about themselves.

I'm a craft writer and designer, and I loved this interview! I have been blogging for many years and have a number of print books published, but I have only recently started producing a craft-related video podcast. In the online knitting world, there are a zillion podcasts out there, so I felt like there was an unfilled niche for those who enjoy knitting but also other types of crafts like beading, paper arts, etc. So the idea of having something different to offer (as you discuss near the end of the interview) I agree with. However, what about the fact that maybe you still have to deal with competition? Or maybe you're attempting to fill a niche too early? I have a very small audience for the show, even though I've been working on promoting through social media, so these are thoughts in my head as I second guess myself sometimes.

Loved this interview so much! Love her honesty about just doing what she feeeeels like doing. Not totally catering to what others tell her she should be doing or what her mind tells her she should be doing. I'm in the science world. A biologist. I've done a lot of amazing things, participated in a lot of diverse research projects, traveled to all 7 continents and I don't have a PhD. I love education outreach, I love nature, I love science and I love inspiring others to think about it! Yet, It seems like the rules are defined for how you have to be or what you have to do in order to be a "successful" scientist and make change. I feel frustrated with that concept. and I'm feeling pressured to go in a direction I don't really want to go. I use these interviews as inspiration to continue following my gut. I want to make big impacts in the world and I don't believe there is only one way for us "scientists" to do it. Why can't we take examples from business entrepreneurs and create something different. Sometimes science seems stuffy and boring to me, what would it seem like to others? I am not that way at all. I'm colorful, I'm inspired, I'm random and I love showing others the things that I find fascinating (from macaws in the jungle, to the microscopic algae under water, even to what otter poop looks like under a scope!). I'm glad to hear Grace say she's just gone with whatever she's wanted so as a 23 years old, that was what appealed to her, and now that shes a 33 year old, things have changed. That gives me so much relief knowing I can really truly just be me and share my voice! Sorry this was long!! Thank you!!

I dont even quote my own quotes, and I dont get upset if somone shares or reposts my things even if I'm not credited because my drive isnt attaching myself worth to anything I create or even myself at all to what I create, my drive is to heal, inspire, free, and uplift people and if somone enjoys what I put out there, I dont say well that's mine, I say well then you see yourself in it so yes it's yours and you as well.

Marie Forleo! “Almost immortal”! Who is Powerful Woman was born Powerful? or there is a transformation in Powerful Woman. (?) I believe she does was born powerful. If I were a woman, I would Marie Forleo Cover. The women have all the accessories to be powerful. It's just a matter of Style. Hair, makeup, clothing, feet, hands, high heels and lots of charm. of course, “Self-esteem”. This is not difficult!! Simply being a woman!! Marie Forleo is extinction! Love you Marie Forleo! -I'm one of the few boys who does my kind of art
    -I'm disabled
-My style is different than most people who do my kind of art
lol not sure if that can be my selling points but the first and last are definitely two things that set me apart that can either help me or destroy me. Check me out on Instagram @crippledclay and let me know what you think?:)

Oh my goodness, because you asked, means you are. What did you want to be when you grew up? Think about it as you did in childhood.
What's your favorite color, smell, weather, artists, music, do you dream in color, what scares you, what comforts you, what makes you cry? See as you think about these things you will find you, and your uniquely special woven together greatness!

+Valerie Foster well isn't that inspiring) I found my thing - I'm good at English. so I teach and translate and have my own web site and community. but it isn't great. I mean we have to understand that any passion can't stay hot all the time - sometimes it's a dreading work.. and that's what upsets me.. and I don't want to change my stream, as I think we're good at many things - we just make a choice. so if I do find my new passion it won't last long - at some point i again will need to manage myself, to be disciplined, to do things and make steps... just saying

+KaterinaTalantliva you may wanna check B-School... I am currently doing it, and it´s a game changer. Many people attending the course (including myself) have this very same, or similar, concern. The course tackles this matter from the very beginning in a way and with tools I would have never imagined or come up with by myself. Just check it out. Weeks before the opening, Marie shares a lot of free content that, besides of being super useful, it gives you a glimpse of the course. It opens once a year and there are many ways of getting a scholarship if money is an issue.

+KaterinaTalantliva Ridiculous when I was 14 I thought that, then I realized how foolish that was as I"m pretty quirky. First it jumps out is- your name Katerina T... right away to me you are "special" as like wow so is she Russian what is her background her heritage? Sometimes we are too close to ourselves- ask a good friend, make a questionnaire like 3 questions to ask. You say you are good at "English" but what about it do you love and can you combine it somehow with some other love of yours, as it sounds like you might get bored and then feel burnt out as a result. Good luck!

It's totally true that where we are born, and what we're born into, is a big determinate of where we'll end up. It's still important to not give up on dreams, while at the same time being realistic about your dreams and setting smaller goals. Work at each small goal, be flexible on where you think they will take you, and keep eyes open to opportunities. It might not look as grand as one might want, but it can still be meaningful and change your life. Also, consider that we don't give credit to all the types of work we all do. There's taking care of your family, caring for sick people, the emotional work we do of listening and sharing with others, keeping our lives together and growing as people is work. Focus on the types of work you do now, and make that work meaningful too. Put your heart in what you do and do it with love.

I have no money, no sponsor. But i want a different life, so i work hard for it, even if it means work in three or four jobs plus freelancing. I believe that when u have money things are easier, but that doesn't mean that people without any money can't work hard and get there, at a life we admire and love.

    • @EllaBirt
      @EllaBirt 9 років тому +5

LilaLi Money can make things easier, but the challenge of building yourself up without money can prepare you for anything. I always think of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs - when you're busy fighting for survival (the first level of needs), it's hard to get the self-actualization levels (running your own business) going on. One step at a time! In life and business. I came from a foster home, and have been on my own my whole life. I spent most of it struggling just to survive, and teaching myself the emotional skills I needed to be a loving/giving being with awareness. This struggle is my unstoppable motivation!
Do you write LilaLi? Could you produce some passive income streams, like an ebook, to free up some time from working jobs?

    • @OriginelleProductions
      @OriginelleProductions 9 років тому +8

EricaFoppe I actually think Marie Forleo may understand more than most. She talks about having to work multiple jobs before landing the dream job all the time in her videos. I don't think that 99% of people have to do work that they weren't born to do for the rest of their lives. I think 99% of people choose to do work they weren't born to do. There are countless examples of penniless entrepreneurs who, despite all of their disadvantages, succeed at something they love. And, on the other hand, there are countless examples of men and women from entitled backgrounds who slave at jobs or companies they hate. Intention, endurance, and work ethic create opportunity.

    • @EllaBirt
      @EllaBirt 9 років тому +3

Originelle Productions Knowing what to do and when is important too. Opportunities and support systems are also crucial. The "American Dream" is really an American myth set up to make laborers work towards the goal of being having more/consuming more without understanding the effects of stratification on society. While we must take responsibility for our choices, and perseverance is one the most essential parts of success in any area of life, there really are many levels of oppression/challenges laid upon many folks. Success in business takes the back burner when one doesn't have access to a good education (even at the primary level), has no computer in their home, doesn't have any entrepreneurial mentors in their life, maybe doesn't even have any dream-supporters at all. While we can't chalk success entirely up to hard work, we can say that not dreaming and not taking chances won't up you to the next level.
