- On 14 Feb 1942, the Malay Regiment lost to the Japanese in a fight to the deaths on Bukit Chandu, which saw Lt Adnan slain.
We commemorate our fallen heroes on Total Defence Day (15 Feb).

Remembering of our fallen hero Lt Adnan Saidi of Malay Regiment fought brave until his last breath without surrender to protect SG from Japanese soldiers.
*To protect MALAYA and SG.
Us Malaysians really adored Lt Adnan and honored him by naming schools and road after him.
Lol got Lt Adnan road or memorial Park in Singapore?
There is a heritage centre at Bukit Candu dedicated to their contribution.

..so basically, malay guys had balls of steel and defended Singapore, while Singaporeans of today more-less, looking down on very malays...congrats to malay dudes who took fight as a real men..
Agreed. 👍
@Ecco … as a Singaporean and not a Malay it is bitter to read your comment … but at the end I accept that your comment is true [ just for example : I am ex-hockey player and hockey is one of the main sport in commonwealth countries. nowadays, the standard of our national team compared with our causeway neighbour is very far. it is sickening to watch our women team easily beaten by our neighbour. it is very obvious that our neighbour got many Malay girls (some even wearing scarf and tracksuit) while our team is mainly non-Malay. our neighbour is now competing at world level. I am asking myself why we did not give a chance to our Malay girl and give them proper training. for men team … our neighbour with their Malay boys are already world class. if our team lost by 10 goals margin, it is considered good ]
@@sunsuria1928 perhaps the malay girls in singapore dont like to play hockey ?? Since you are on the subject of sports....our men national football team is mostly malays...are we doing any better ? Please stop with your racial politics and narrative !!
@ECCO SABANOVIC....The regiment mentioned were paid soldiers under the British...not volunteers. It was their job. No one is doubting their bravery. Other races did volunteer to fight the japanese army....including my late grandfather. It was the underground resistence movement. Do some reseach to update your knowledge. And for your statement of "Singaporeans looking down on malays " ...this unfortunate behaviour by some people happens everywhere in the world . You think western europeans dont " look down " on those poorer europeans from the slavic countries ??😉
worst part is that they put most of the malays in scdf and spf what a shame
RIP Malay soldiers
Rest in peace all

My grandfather also same platoon with lt adnan but he die at bukit chandu i think.
These guys are as brave as they come yet were betrayed by gutless, poor leadership of General Arthur Percival who simply handed Singapore to the inferior forces of the Japanese army. I know there is the argument that he saved lives but if you are going to surrender your forces without a fight then why bother having defensive forces at all. It's a baseless argument and one that never even occurred to these brave Malay soldiers. Respect and RIP.
Percival is not to blame. He was given insufficient means by London.
@@stalinium4769 He is partly to blame, he's the one that authorized his men to fall back and leave the defence post
As Malay we are also proud that our 1st Malays Royal Regiment stand together along side British Forces.. also our fighter pilot fighting in European Theater...RIP for all those perish in glory!
@Schlomo Shekelbergtransgenderstein yes, that are true fact..but before me,my ancestor had keep fighting the colonist such as Portugese,Dutch and British..what made they lost the battle,it's traitor among us..their greed for money and rank..

I have read some rumor by Japanese army general said "if there were another 10 people like Lieutenant Adnan Japanese army likely will not be able to conquer Malaya at that time"btw i Malaysian (sorry for my bad spelling)
Indeed...
It's a rumor. That was said by a Japanese officer during that time
That's no rumour . That's a quote by non other than the " Tiger of Malaya " , Gen . Yamashita himself . And why not ? Their platoon , a mere fourty men , more or less , killed over eight hundred attacking enemy soldiers . Yamashita , commanding first rate soldiers , surely , was in disbelief at the resistance and the gallantry his troops faced . Again , that's not taking anything away from the Japanese soldier . He can stand tall despite his country's defeat in WW 2 .
They that the malay regiment was a experimental group the british thought the malay soldier are not good soldiers but the lft Adnan and his 42 men show that they are no joke and showed bravery

Its sad that malays indians/punjabs sacrificed their lives only to see their grandkids to be treated as second classed citizen. Chinese immigrants did not care less for this piece of land. Infact bringing diseases and drugs into the peninsular. 50 odd years and theyre still white worshiping when infact the whites left them to defend and die for themselves only to comeback when its safe for them. Its hard to swallow the treatment and lack of same oppurtunity given to the malays and indians in singapore. Bangkit lah saudara2 melayu kuu!

The Fall of British Malaya
1. Underestimated the Empire of Japan.
Not really. British forces is superior during early Japan invasion of malaya. Its just that british had to focus in the nazi in Europe which left them no choice but to prioritize the mainland from fascim.
Dalforce and the Malay regiment had to bear the brunt of the attack with outdated weapons. This was a mix of bad luck, incompetence, and a bit of inequality
