Fantastic video and lovely color. It’s hard to find someone on UA-cam that knows as much on E39 as Ryan.
it is so funny and pleasing to have every little piece that is missing and just go search it and install it :p GOOD CONTENT AS ALWAYS ! BMW FOR LIFE
Awesome detailed video . Keep up the great work . Bmw m5 is the greatest sedan ever for me . Greetings from South Africa.
Great video....I've been over every inch of my '00 M5 and this helped to validate or quash any concerns I had with things on mine. Great insights into the most random things. A+
Awesome video! How I never discovered your website until now is baffling. Need some moonroof parts!!!
Beautiful car too, BTW.
My 97 540I has nearly as many miles due to the insane care the original owner took of it, and still runs like a dream.
Welcome to the community! What sunroof parts do you need?
@@E39Source Thank you very much! So glad to be here!
I believe I need one or both of the drive cables because both the gear (which I have a replacement for already) and the cables have some damage due to the slippage over the years. I took the whole tray out and replaced most both the main and front sliders, as the rears are metal and are fine. I also created a leak by using WD-40 to clean the old grease off the cables and out of the tracks because the WD-40 dissolves the butyl rubber that's used to seal the metal-to-plastic interface of the rain gutters. That...was a big pain because I had to remove and replace all the old butyl 100% before I put it back in the car. One cable slides out the back, but the other looks like it requires drilling out two rivets to remove it. I can find everything but these cables- as I want to hopefully avoid buying a whole new tray.
If it's OK, I'll post a link to my Google Photos gallery for all to see of my progress restoring my 227,000 mile example that I picked up for exactly $0 dollars, and put about $500 and probably hundreds of hours of cleaning into so far.
@@theamerican7080 Unfortunately, replacing the entire sunroof cassette (tray) is the easiest solution, and what I sell the parts for. It's honestly easier to just swap out the whole thing than to try to rebuild a damaged one.
Feel free to post the link!
the color of this M5 is stunning.....
Thanks for the upload, very interesting to see through the camera as you did underneath the car and elsewhere in great detail, and beautiful car also - great rims BTW. Nice to know your car is in good hands!
Nice wheels, too.
Great video guys! A lot of info there, thanks!
When I was scrolling down, thought it was Verstappen working on his e39 m5. Had to click 😂
Awesome, thanks for the video.
Great video and seriously impressive stock of parts you have there. Makes me wish I still had one and lived stateside. (Though there's other things that also make me wish I lived in the Bay Area, but hey ho.) However, I have an e61 M5 now and when the SMG pump went, I called my guy and he came in a small car and borrowed tools and then "Have you got a 40 amp maxi fuse. I'll be impressed if you've got one of those!" Ta da. ... 'Is it likely to blow again? Well have a cheap one until we know...' Not quite the same but small things right!
There's no way he drove it to the moon dude. No oxygen in space.
Somebody is lying.
Yeah way man! I drove my '97 540I to the moon...and almost all the way back. lol
Great comment!
There is no moon!
Thats no moon, its a space station!
Great vid
Best educational videos with lots of nuggets! God bless.
Very nice video! I wish I had done an inspection on mine just to get more information. I did my own inspection with my limited car knowledge And it's worked out pretty fantastic so far I've owned my M5 for 2 1⁄2 years fix a few things I'm up to 196,000 miles. Purrs like a kitten.Just have to address the high pressure power steering fluid hose leak.
I would come to Ryan's to get an inspection like this on my 530i but I live in Romania so... 🤣
Yes Mate, have the same problem, I live in Australia
Hi Ryan, Great content as always 👍🏼 Just want to ask if you guys have ever thought of retro fitting a reverse camera using the original 16:9 screen? Would make a great feature for the M5
Thank you! And... stay tuned...
@@E39Source I do like the sound of that 👍🏼
Hey Ryan. Could you share the e39Source.com link to the production numbers spreadsheet that you mentioned in the video? I can't seem to find it on the website. Thanks!
It is the first link at www.e39source.com/downloads/
I still have my factory sub free for grabs
Where does it go?
14K ???? Wow I’m astonished
Who is that guy/mechanic? O_O
I know you’ve probably said it somewhere, but what software do you use to scan like you do? I use INPA but it doesn’t seem as in-depth. I have a 98 540i I pulled out of a field I’m restoring so those kind of codes would help
I am looking at INPA right now, but the error files I have are all in German, giving a language mismatch error (and I don't know German lol)
Emily1963eh there’s some files you can download and override the german ones with. I think someone did a whole translation for most of the normal codes a bit more recently. Some of the forums have it
I use PASoft/BMW Scanner 1.4. It is available online quite cheaply!
Youre documenting trim levels? Id be happy help you to give you my specs, unless this sheet is filled out entirely and its only to see what category/rarity the owners car is in. (Im still a bit confused on its purpose)
I have a whole spreadsheet with many pages of production statistics. How many in each color with each interior in each market. What options were standard, what % of cars in each market had them, etc etc. I think the document is fairly complete, though not with 100% accuracy. There are some 'un-documented' press and photo cars that throw off the official statistics by 1-3%.
I want some E39Source stickers... 🙏🏼 Ryan, I have an 03’ 540/6 with 60,000 miles. I am the 2nd owner and recently replaced the timing chain tensioner and it was shot. Oil recommendations for a M62TU?
I will add them to the E39Source online store soon! That would be fun.
I’d use 5w30 in a diverse climate or 5w40 in a warm climate.
Is this inspection service available to others? Where can I get more info?
It is! I offer the complete E39 M5 MPI for $300. Please reach out if interested ryan@e39source.com
@@E39Source Thanks, I will be reaching out! Where are you located?

I actually like those aftermarket wheels. Would get them if i couldn't get the real ones. What are they called?
they are MRR GT7 wheels.
Get the headers, it's how the car should have been delivered in the first place
5-30 or 10-60? Which is better? Thanks
It seems to be widely accepted that 10w60 is a better oil for the S62.
Daang you paid 14,000?
what wheels are those?
MRR GT7 wheels
I'm jealous ...can he do my e34 please !,
It sort of amazes me how close the spec this is to my car. I purchased mine fall 2019 and I'm super happy with it so far. Unfortunately the interior isn't quite as nice but it was sold by Crevier BMW and lived in Cali most of it's life so the body is spotless which I was most excited about honestly. Here's a link to my car! ua-cam.com/video/bO-luQ_HjAM/v-deo.html
I haven't officially unveiled the miles and price but I purchased it with 232k miles and payed 10,500.
That's a low price for a well optioned and clean 2003! The car looks nice, just needs some specific attention in specific areas- like all of them do. Enjoy it!
@@E39Source Thanks Ryan! Really appreciate what you do for the community and the hard work you put into your videos and your products!
