David Ruffin was undoubtedly one of Motown's finest singers of his era. Every Temptation's hit single where he was lead singer was nothing short of a platinum hit. His voice was unmistakably original that none could mimic. Sad he sucummed to drugs. His music will always live on and on.
Nothing ruined David's voice listen to him just before he died he sounded magnificent Eddie Kendricks voice suffered from cigarette smoking and lung cancer
David was raised in a supposedly religious household by his lay preacher father. His mother died when he was just an infant. His father was a cruel religious fanatic who beat his children, and particularly David, for the least infraction! When David became big enough to fight back, his dad "farmed him out" to various acquaintances in fundamentalist churches, mainly for his singing ability. David being a man raised without love growing.up, was never able to feel, or show love to anyone! All he knew in interpersonal relationships was cruelty and physical altercations! Then came his addictions to drugs, which became his downfall! However, his beautiful voice never failed him! So sad!
Thank you for putting this out. I have talked about this man for years. What a beautiful voice he had. Whenever I hear male singers, very few have a voice is moving as his and none sound like him. Haven't heard one guy that even comes close. Yes I've mentioned his name many times when people talk about great male singers. What a tragic ending for such a man who had such a beautiful talent. So very sad. Even Sadder is nowadays a lot of people don't even know who he was and have never even heard his songs. We never even got to hear his full potential before he left. The gonna walk away from love song was just a taste of his talent potential.

As a therapist who's worked with MANY MANY addicts over the last 10+ years, one thing that has been a common theme among males and females was how much s--ual trauma they experienced in childhood/adolescence.😔 Admittedly, it's not something males tend to reveal as quickly as females will often do, however, it was definitely prevalent with them too. In fact, studies have shown how that particular trauma is probably one of the biggest feeders for long-time drug and alcohol dependency.... Which is why there's so much shame attached to addiction on multiple levels.😔 My guess is that in addition to the other abuse & traumas of his childhood, se---al trauma was undoubtedly a part of David Ruffin's addiction/undiagnosed mental health struggles....And sadly, that trauma was probably a part of other Temptations members' childhood history who likewise battled undiagnosed mental health/addiction issues too.🥺😔😢 We give thanks for the talents they shared with us 🤲🏽♥️🤲🏽...and we hope that their families will find or have found peace in the loving, good and happy memories they all left behind.💐🙏🏽♥️
I sometimes shock’s me how the reality harsh reality of the Mass Kidnapping experience and the subsequent un checked terrorism, lynchings and just raw hatred we have had to endure to survive. All these realities often get overshadowed when telling these stories. Then when the artist or subject of these clips, crashes and burns out, so many people make comments about being a good boy or good girl, don’t get in trouble or do drugs. Please, try to take a moment to really rationalize what is really going on here for Centuries. It’s SICK! Sundown Towns/ Lynching's/ Red lining/ systemic oppression, “Dixiecrats” Totally Disgusting!
I swear so many of out talented Brothers & Sisters were raised by rhe WORSE parents! No love, compassion, or willingness to NOT repeat the abuse rhey received from their parents... Although, many of rhem weere dealt some messed up cards, they STILL became GREAT, WELL KNOWN, & LOVED by ALL of us 💚🥹😏 IJD overstand it...Only The Most High knows...What's so sad though, is almost every one of our Greatest, met a sad demise😞 May David Ruffin EIP (Evolve In Paradise) for Eternity 💚 May he be at Peace🙏🏽
David Ruffin only knew 10 mos of his mother's love and she died before he could talk or understand ehat was happening. No one can take the place of a mother's love. David as Davis experienced "trauma" being separated from her at 10 mos of age.
i did a lot of reserch on david when i retired he had a horrible childhood he even told dennis edwards one day after i read it saddenedy heart i dont think he every got over it ! hamd his brother jimmy
His personal life was lacking due to his mother’s passing at his infancy, and his dad showed no compassion😢 It is unfortunate, that such a talent was not Nurtured by his father.🥵 so he used drugs as a crutch. His Soul will reincarnate by his choosing, Whenever he’s ready as he rests in Peace🙏🏽♉️🕉️🌺
It's so funky that when David really WAS the best and well deserving lead singer of the TEMPS , they were all great. The Miracles..then Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Supremes...then Diana Ross and the Supremes and others. I never understood except Otis Williams was jealous as hell!!!! He had no problem when they 1st got together to say his group were Otis Williams and the Distant. They were 1st the Distants but Otis put his name in front. I still wonder why they couldn't be David Ruffin and the TEMPS..Otis was self centered, selfish and jealous as "Ain't NOBODY COME TO SEE YOU OTIS". TOO true
David was awesome. Always will be.. those were the best days in secular music I miss them so much but I don't want to remember the memories that went with it..
He finally realized he needed the group more than they needed him. He started as background. Some singers could sing his songs better than David but none could sing Eddie Kendricks better than Eddie including Smokey Robinson. I still listen to the original 5
He had the emotional structure of a child . That was typical for the Jim Crow era he was raised in . He left home at 14 , he probably quit school at 13 . That was the South in 1954 . Drugs was the only friend for many black people who could afford it . That made any money a problem ...
@@debrablanton3037 Otis feared his talent so instead of promoting it he squelched it Otis worked against him his entire career with help from Berry Gordy

My man, David Ruffin! Words cannot express how much I enjoyed hearing his voice!
I still do and it seems to improve in some ways as he aged❤️
Loved his singing at any time ❤❤❤❤
David had a beautiful voice so sad he couldn't leave those drugs alone
He got addicted needed help
No matter what, he will always be the voice for the temptations, love his music
True
RIP to Mr. Ruffin and his daughter. Such a talented man.
We will always remember him❤

Right it just aged if you to the last song he recorded hurt the one you love he still sounded good for his age
I love The Temptations. I love all of their music.

I love those songs. The rhythm to them defined the 69s

Incredible story. Helping to build hitsville. Wow
I love the article. I miss David and the Temptations.

David is one of my favorite singers of all time. I think I have every photo David EVER TOOK. I even spoke with his daughter 2yrs before she passed.

He lost his mother very early, and his father was tough on him, no wonder why he went on drugs.
Keep away from drugs and alcohol then you will have a long music career if talented.

Motown kept him don’t and they did it on purpose because they didn’t want him to upstage the temptations
I have to wonder why so many entertainers meet their demise in similar manners. Violence drugs tragic accidents.

STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU DAVID AND THE TEMPTATIONS❤️
Most soul singers self destruct
The tempts would have been relegated to hand claps and back-up singers if it wasn't for David's vocal powress.

Became to cocky.

Some of this may be true, but David’s ego made it easier for the group to fire him.
Nixed muelerpolo g
He doesn’t look like Ruffin🤨
he looks more like genna too me 😮
His 3 daughters with his ex wife, Sandra, are his spitting image.
I loved David with the Temps, he made the group, it wasn't the same after they kicked him out!
He was PART of the GROUP liken the Heart is PART of the Human Body. The Heart is NOTHING without the OTHER Members of the Body.
Okay

As you already know, it wasn't the reason for the Temptation to break up! Thanks to the other four, they found Dennis Edwards.
