Silent Hiking Rwanda and Searching for Mountain Gorillas

- Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is one of the most unique places on earth. It's home to the endangered mountain gorillas, which were nearly poached to extinction until a monumental conservation effort has helped bring the species back from the brink. Rwanda is also home to Karisimbi, the tallest volcano in Rwanda. As the volcano rises into the sky, the vegetation takes on otherworldly qualities. The ecosystem here is unlike anywhere else I've ever hiked.
This hiking film documents my hike to the top of Karisimbi with a local guide, and my gorilla tracking hike to find the elusive mountain gorillas. This is made in the style of @kraigadams and @HarmenHoek , two hiking UA-camrs that specialize in silent hiking films.
This video has been re-edited from the version that is available in my super long-form video that compiles all of my hikes from 2023. • The Most Outstanding T...
Special thanks to Luc Alary for filming this, and to Kyle Miller for providing some music crafted just for this video.

Your experience brought tears to my eyes...one of the most exquisite creatures this world has to offer! Absolutely amazing!!
gorillas are so interesting and beautiful. The humanness in their eyes is something wonderful to behold.
This is extraordinary, Eric. Thank you to you and luc for sharing your journey. Just one question. Why the backpack?
Thank you! It never showed up but I carried a tent and sleeping gear for the night spent midway up the mountain.
Great rwanda experience
Rwanda is such a cool country
Great video! Gorilla tracking is on my bucket list. Could you please share the contact info (company or guide) for the gorilla trek?
Makes me want to see all the different Gorilla's. Their faces reflect wisdom and hope.
I'd love to visit other family groups and see more!

If you like this, Ryan Van Duzer did a bicycle tour of Rwanda and made a whole series out of it, it’s great!
oh cool! I'll have to check that out.
I really enjoyed this video. I’m glad you put in notes about the style. The hike was other worldly and the gorillas were magnificent. Like another commenter said, it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
thank you! yeah it's a different style, very quiet and thoughtful. Glad you enjoyed it!
What an experience to be up so close with them 😊 that little guy came to say hello 🦍
he was so curious!
How can I get in contact with the company/ local guide you used?
For mount karisimbi
Look too long at the mud and glance up - your guide has vanished! He was so hard to see, he blended in so well and then there's Eric in ORANGE!
I am gobsmacked. Gorrilas! 🥹 what an experience that must have been! Is that in a sanctuary, or did you just happen upon a band of them lounging and playing?
I am honestly green with envy. I so want to see gorillas.
it was such a wonderful experience! It's within Volcanoes national park which provides protection (they'd be protected outside the park too but that's just where they live). But yeah they move around all over the place and that's why we were searching for them and had trackers who monitor their movements and provide protection from poachers.
@@eric_hanson so cool!
