In some ways, Dick Grayson is very similar to Cyclops. His growth is coming of age story about kid overcoming his traumas and becoming a great hero and leader who, despite dealing with so much pressure that comes with the role, is always ready to do his best and solve the problem, inspiring others to follow him. This is why I always prefer his relationship with Starfire over Barbara Gordon, since Kory acts as contrast to Dick's upbringing and tells to be open about his feelings, to embrace his humanity.
dick and kory felt more like an actual relationship since the new teen titans being a team book meant neither one was a supporting character in the other's story which is the role barbara always falls into when she and dick are together
@StargoldGushes Exactly. This is why, in my opinion the best adaptations of Dick Grayson are Teen Titans (2003) and Young Justice, since he's a main character and has his own arc. As much I praise BTAS (and the DCAU as whole), their version of Dick Grayson never felt he moved on from Batman and was able to become his own character.
Dick Grayson, to me, is my favourite member of the Bat-Family and Nightwing is arguably *Bruce Wayne's Greatest Success!* The idea of Dick Grayson witnessing his parents die right in front of him due to the corruption and apathy of a too far deep within the pits of hell must and is a devasting event to witness and a traumatic experience that no child should ever have been scarred with. As such, Dick was fortunate to have a glimmer of hope in the bleak and dark world he was forced to come to terms with, that hope was a man who understood Dick's pain, and instead of leaving that child with no hope and no family, Bruce chose to do something he hasn't been able to do in a long time... and that's to care, to raise, to teach, to love an innocent child that still had the chance to view the world as not such a bad place. Bruce became the father that he lost so that this child could grow to become a man with a good heart and a noble moral compass, not only to be good... but to be better than Bruce could ever be. Dick Grayson growing to be his own hero and the leader of a team of young superheroes is a sign that Bruce did his job and gave a child a better life. Not only that but as such, he began a catalyst, sparking a match in the youthful eyes of Gotham, showing that despite the rapid siege of crime that plagues the street, it can be easy and grant you what you desire... there will still be a better way and route you can take. You may not be able to go around in spandex and fight criminals and murderers, but you can still be a person who doesn't view the world where your only path is through crime, racketeering, and corruption but through the helping and protection of others. Even though I do think Tim Drake is arguably the best Robin, Dick Grayson embodies that unwavering sense of hope, optimism, wonder and progress that inspires every other Robin and encourages other young people and superheroes like the Teen Titans or even members of the Justice League.
This is an awesome video. You really nailed Grayson's character and his place in comic history. I feel like Dick is in a constant tug of war between his solo runs, Titans, and Batman/Gotham comics. I feel like the character gets stretched too thin because of that. He has a sister through Melinda Grayson-Lin but that role was already filled with the criminally underused Donna Troy. He lacks a popular rogue's gallery, Titans villains don't have much of a beef with him, Dixon's villains are largely forgettable. I wouldn't exactly call any of his runs a definitive take on the character. I love The Black Mirror and Morrison's Batman and Robin but those aren't "Nightwing" runs. Wolfman understood him the best but New Teen Titans is a bit messy all in all. Despite all that he is definitely one of the best superheroes of all time. Great vid love your stuff!
Thanks! I definitely find it interesting how Nightwing is not only a well-defined character but also given more priority than Green Arrow or Aquaman even though only the latter two possess more than one definitive run. The only writer who even made an attempt to give Nightwing that was Tom Taylor, which is mind-boggling considering it had already been nearly 25 years since the character got a solo ongoing by the time his run started. I'm interested to see where things go now that Taylor's run is over and Dan Watters is building on it by keeping Melinda and Haley around instead of just starting over.

i wish Wally west was given his own name
I really liked the 90s Chuck Dixon cast of characters like the landlord Clancy and Amy Robach his partner
