    I have 2 queen Messor Barbarus. One only has eggs currently. The other already have larvae and pupae and her first worker nanitic ☝️ Nice nest setup for your Messor Barbarus colony 👌

    you did great connecting this up, when i moved house with my messor barbarus i had the pipes disconnect while in transit, i keep my setups on tea trays though, the cheap plastic ones from ikea, i find that really handy for containing escapee's and collecting them, and also moving the setup without disconnecting any tubes

    I have a Queen of this same species, had her for a few months and she's just not developing her brood, I originally thought it was because of hibernation with it been the colder months of the year.
    She's been laying eggs but she must be eating them.
    Placed food in her tube to keep her healthy and had the tube near a heat mat to try and create the right conditions for her.
    She's the only Queen I have had problems with.

      I didn't found this colony, but have heard that theyre very slow until they hit about 30 workers. Keep your patience and don't disturb her too much and you'll see some colony growth soon, I'm sure.

    Hey there I recently got a Messor Barbarus Colony and she currently has 3 workers and some larvae I have fed them some honey which the queen loved but I was wondering what I should feed them because they don’t have any majors at the moment so they won’t be able to crush the seeds what would you recommend?

    How much do you water the nest and how much ml of water?

    • @midlandants4858
      @midlandants4858  Рік тому

      Its only been set up for a few weeks. I was hydrating the nest weekly for the first couple of weeks but noticed the ants had moved away from the chambers closet to the hydration points so decided to do less ml and reduce the frequency. Its been 9 days since I last hydrated the nest. They moved back to the chambers a few days ago but I still see some condensation on the acrylic sometimes (which I saw the ants drinking, check out my latest short🙃) I'm using the ants behaviour to decide when to hydrate again.

    I love harvester ants I have a veromessor pergandei rn. I cant wait to see my ants up to that size. Gl on your messor i hope they doing well. You make attaching the nests so easy. Since I am in SoCal so many argentine ants. When i connected them, they escaped. When you do it there is only like 3-5 escaped workers. gl
