I just Picked up the "The big box "version of this game for €5 at a charity shop, and Your explanation And play-through really helped cement the rules in my head. Thanks so much.
Yet another excellent video guys. Before watching this playthrough, I wouldn't have given this game a second look if I'd seen it for sale somewhere, now I want to buy it!
Recently started re watching from season 1 and I have a question. Is there a reason Mark hasn't been on any new episodes recently? He's always been one of my favorite guests.
Actually, when you move to the fountain, you can decide which assistants you pick up again, thereby creating a tactic for your next turn to go to a space with an assistant already there.
Another great video from you guys :-) Just bought the game and came home to see if there was any reviews or game-plays about it and found that you had just uploaded your video 11 hours before, nice coincidence! Great rules explanation from Dave (as usual), I'm definitely taking notes for my first play-through.
I've had this on the shelf for months, just had a learning session in the week and the first game with the wife later this afternoon, hopefully it will become a fav as i think its pretty good
3:10 The rules state "Return any number of your Assistants to your Merchant stack. " They don't ALL have to come back. In terms of tempo, this makes a very big deal.
Falcon Say you have an assistant one or two spaces off from the Fountain. Your next move you can go there to pick him up and do the action and have a full set of assistants. Could even be stringed further as well if another assistant was 1-2 spaces away from the first one.
@@gobo2093 not only that but if an assistant is on a space that you know you will go to in the next 3 or so turns it is probably better to let them there
Could Nikki have won around 1:09:00 by going to the top right space? I think she had enough spices and so she would have both tiles in that area for a gem. Or am I misunderstanding something? Thanks!
Very cool play through and I like the discussion afterwards. I'm off to go play Istanbul now, and hope to implement some of what I've learnt from you guys.
This is a pretty fun game and relatively easy to explain as well. I played it for about 7/8 times so far. But it turns out I have learned the rules wrong. I always thought you had to pay one good to roll for the jewelry on the black market. But you also get one.
They point out to Nikki she can get the fifth gem finally!!! I've been so freakin confused why she didnt win TWO turns ago. She didnt have to got to the fountain if she went there the turn she got the green materials
Collect all the Mosque cards Guys! it gets you two gems!. Always get the red card first if possible it is I know you played this years ago but very useful when rolling die next the blue to give you that extra assistant and upgrade your cart as quickly as poss to get another gem then try and grab the gems from the jeweller and the Palace while they are still cheap! I know this is an old episode but.........
What if I want to move two spaces to take an action, but one of my discs is on the first space I move through? Can I pick up the disc on the first space as I move to the second space to carry out my action? These movement rules are a bit baffling.
No you can't. The movement rules are simple. You can move one or two steps (not diagonally). At the place you move to, drop off an assistant to do the action (or if one of your assistants already is there, pick it up instead to do the action)
Hello. I want to ask. On the prison and inn cards. It's like a card. Which has a yellow star on it. And in the instructions it says to play. Action or card? What action is it exactly?
Not sure which cards you are referring to, but I see a yellow star on the Tavern tile from the Mocha & Baksheesh expansion. At the Tavern, you pay coffee to do one of the three actions shown. For the one with the yellow star, you pay 2 coffee, place the barrier between two tiles, and do the action for one of those two spaces. There is also a yellow star on a bonus card from the Letters & Seals expansion. On that one, if you are at the Caravansary (tile 6), you can perform the action of the top card of the discard pile.
She did have an assistant available but the error was she did not drop it. After her next turn, if you look at the lower left of the screen which shows the jeweller when the camera is facing their side, the white stack looks 3 discs tall.
At 1:08:48 Dave wan't supposed to trade all those resources in. That card should have been put at the bottom of the deck on his previous turn when he took the exact same action before.
Played the game with friends and we liked it. The only thing we missed in the game was the oppertunity to reduce the number of goods your opponents have and so he/she runs away with the victory. Only played the short game with 3 players. But liked it and i wanna play more ;)
Well done! Nice video production. Good quality. Looks to me that 3 cameras were filming simultaneously: Overhead and toward players on each side of the table. Correct? What program did you use to pull it all together? I really liked the post discussions. Again, well done!
Go to Thailand, often they have a special holiday when gems are very cheap. Usually some friendly stranger on the street will tell you and show you a good gem dealer. I've been there three times and every time I've been lucky enough to catch this special holiday.
i just relistened to that situation a couple of times and it believe he just tries to say what he also says right after, "i'm going to pay you..." dave isn't laughing because of that but because he probably realized that he said "hooray.... to me" just a guess though
Based on what you wrote, if they made one mistake, the entire 1h gameplay must be done over? First of all, board games are for fun. They are games not a life. Second, this show is about showing the overall gameplay and then comment on the goods and flaws of this game. Stop being a Nazi over the rules. You are giving a bad rep to every board game players.
Yeah i saw that too ... made the video hard to watch for me honestly - not only was it missed a lot, it was inconsistently remembered. i think the game would have played out very differently if this rule was used consistently but it really bothered me that it was used a couple times but not used a LOT
Hi, guys, can you plz not jump the camera so much during rule explaining? ..would much prefer to have it focus on the board most of time to better understand the game, thank you!
I love that Game Night always covers the Spiel awards, including Kenner and Kinder. Thanks for giving a taste of these award winners/nominees.

You should do a refresher with the coffee expansion. This is one of my favorites, and I think it's my wife's favorite game.

Looks like a fun game.
15:36 am I the only one amazed by dave's shuffeling skills?
He is a pretty amazing guy overall imo

@@thetasworld For sure! He is definitely the star in GameNight.
ONe of the best if not the best rules explanation...simple and straightforward, plus the table banter and gameplay was fun - youve got be subbed!
i love this game. I love watching you guys play!

That’s a great point. Never realized that

colormage1 that was my thought also, she had max green and 4 gems at that moment. so yes, that would have been the game.
They caught that in her next move!
Love watching you guys as always

I enjoyed learning and watching you play :)
Hi guys, could you please elaborate on that odd German-English translation thing one of you mentioned at the beginning? Thanks.

Okay even before I watch this I HAVE to know Lincon where did you get that shirt
We still use Lira as the currency
1:00:56 Nikki had no assistants to drop but she still purchases a cart expansion. Is this allowed?
She did have an assistant available but the error was she did not drop it. After her next turn, if you look at the lower left of the screen which shows the jeweller when the camera is facing their side, the white stack looks 3 discs tall.

I'm pretty sure he didn't say how the game ends in the rules explanation. I guess I have to watch the entire video to figure it out.
It ends with the first player to get their 5th ruby (or 6th in a 2 player game).
You should focus camera more on the board in the future.
I was wondering how long it would take for a ban on that joke to be made, but I didn't expect it to be in the first 10 seconds!

***** I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but you do a great job switching between the cameras and bringing us into the game.
Also at 31: 12 Aron also should have paid Nicky 2 lira for his visit to the Tea Room !!!
What is a quick way to get gems? Any tips?
Go to Thailand, often they have a special holiday when gems are very cheap. Usually some friendly stranger on the street will tell you and show you a good gem dealer. I've been there three times and every time I've been lucky enough to catch this special holiday.
What does Aaron do at 24:40 that makes Dave laugh and say he does that all the time? Can't figure it out.

58:42 she should still have 1 red cube. Game is void!

Aw lighten up.
Diabolik771 AND even one Yellow cube :D She had two of each. just saw that misstake of hers.
+Simon Granbarr yeah, I was confused as to why Nicky just moved all her goods to zero. And nobody else picked it up.

At 24:10 Marc should've paid 2 lira to Nicky because he visit the warehouse were Nicky also is !!!
uuuhh play the big box edition :D
Fun game and well done all. The digital version is good and is on sale for half off on Steam today -10/25/2020.
Nicki spent way too many goods here 😣 58:48
Maybe it's just me, but it seams that you all forgot to pay 2 liras for being in the same space with other players, a lot.
Yeah i saw that too ... made the video hard to watch for me honestly - not only was it missed a lot, it was inconsistently remembered. i think the game would have played out very differently if this rule was used consistently but it really bothered me that it was used a couple times but not used a LOT
+DnaNaz I believe the rule is when you are in the same space as another player's merchant, not any of their assistants
@@Simon-gi8mz sure, but they didn't do that all the time
is the dude with the long hair even enjoying this? he looks so morose...>:(
great game though
Hi, guys, can you plz not jump the camera so much during rule explaining? ..would much prefer to have it focus on the board most of time to better understand the game, thank you!
Whoever does the best job avoiding spending an action at the fountain will win the game.
Lincoln looks like what I imagine Garth from Wayne's World would look like now....

13:01 hihihi ... NNN ... aka Nikki (k)nows nothing ;-) only making fun
This game sounded good but seeing it played it looks fiddly as all get out so i think ill pass
