This might be the best comment that sums up the Tomlin Era! this era has been the worst era in Steelers history going back to Chuck Knoll, lasting longer than the 80's drought. Rooney won't ever trade Tomlin because Rooney is too weak, but he needs to sideline Tomlin's ego of getting younger talent that threatens Tomlin's job, because it's ruining the franchise and it's already permanently tarnishing both Tomlin's legacy of being a HOF coach and The Rooney's legacy of being a beta male. They need to check or trade Tomlin. Get the lion's Offensive Coordinator and Flores as DC. Just have Mike be the figure head and pump up the footballs. If Rooney can't fire Mike, then just let him do press conferences, recruit free agents, and give lip service to the media and the team. No more calling the shots, no more imprinting a philosophy, No more X's and O's, and just have him sit in the draft room and call the players to welcome them to the team... If they aren't going to get rid of him the normal way, then Rooney should do it the Steelers way, don't fire, but silencently relieve them of their duties and and just keep him around since they are terrified of changing their old ways and the image that they feel they have to project as "The Pittsburgh Steelers." Things have to change yesterday!
The Steelers are regularly outsmarted by other teams. We could have Mahomes and Kelsey, Jefferson and Chase and the Eagles O-line - as long as Tomlin is the coach it wouldn't matter.

There was another Tomlin quote that made me laugh yesterday. Dulac asked him about how much they run on 1st down and why did they keep doing it when it didn’t work. Tomlin essentially said, “well, that was in our agenda so we wanted to do that”. Okay. I get having an agenda. But when your agenda WASNT WORKING…. WHY WOULD YOU KEEP DOING IT???? It’s literally the definition of insanity - keep doing the same things and expecting different results. Unbelievable.
They have run on first down almost every time this year. I guess they are trying to trick the other team into thinking they have to try something else eventually.
If your a Steelers faithful, then you know what needs to happen to better this team. We have a self centered head coach, it's his way or the highway. It's not rocket science.
I think staunch Tomlin supporters are finally coming around. I was talking to my buddy the other day. Big Tomlin guy. He said winning Saturday is all that matters after the four game slide. I kind of chuckled and said if winning playoff games was all that mattered, why is he still the coach?
His stubbornness is what keeps him form being a great coach. Cowher and Noll had defensive backgrounds who wanted to run the football as an identity, but they altered that strategy when they felt they needed to. Noll led a transition to an aeirial attack in the late 70s to 2 more super bowls in the 70s post rule change. The Steelers opened up the offense and brought the 5 WR look to the NFL in 95 after a conservative offense in 94 wasn't the answer for 95 when they fell to 3-4 and rode it the SB. Cowher also moved on from Ron E after the season when they didn't agree on the direction of the offense and promoted Chan G. The Steelers opened up the passing attack in '02 as it fit their personnel better that season as opposed to the more conservative approach in the 01 that got them to the AFC title game. In the 05 playoffs Cowher realized he finally had an elite QB and that their best chance in the playoffs was to take fhe handcuffs off the kid. Ben made so many key plays to help them get to the SB, because Cowher realized they had to make adjustments to how they approached things offensively. Tomlin is a wonderful human who loves football, but he also has developed an ego over time that comes off as him wanting to be right over anything else. It will be his undoing.....maybe not this year. Maybe not next. But eventually Art isn't going to have a choice.

I agree with you DK, this new stuff with Tomlin is quite a stunning revelation. It deserves plenty of commentary. It’s sad because he’s such an awesome guy, and now he’s holding this legendary franchise back.
I’ve been head coach fan while so many were calling for his head over the years. But this year has sadly opened my eyes with how this team has been coached and managed so poorly.
Missing blocks on sweeps left, missing pass protection when he's singled up on a safety, and catching 1 ball for 3 yards every other game. That's stretch in a nutshell.
Yikes DK. That is one of the most damning responses from Tomlin I've ever heard. They're playing to manage risk = playing not to lose. That is not a contender's mentality, leaving any stone unturned to fix things. It also screams inability to change gameplans or no capability to innovate, getting with the times.

Oh and BTW, credit to DK for your constant hard work, dedication and enthusiasm. You make this exciting even when its bad news....you were born to do this and Pgh is lucky to have a reporter like you. We like Ramon but you are good without him too!
Here’s an easy fix, stay in 12 personnel with DWash spread out wide, if they’re close to him run it , if they lay off, throw him a quick WR screen and at least twice a quarter, throw him an alley-oop either down field and or in the end zone, he’s unstoppable!!!!
Feels like Mike is feeling pressure for the first time since 2007. Instead of evolving and growing he is going to dig his heels in pout and hold his breath until he passes out
I don’t get it. You wanna be a running team but you don’t want Justin Fields as a quarterback because you picked Russ and now you wanna be right about Russ?
DK, you’re spot on with this take which is sad and concerning… I’ve noticed the stubbornness with our overall defensive scheme as well. We continue to stick to an archaic zone scheme even when we are playing “zone killers” like the chiefs and Travis Kelce. I understand the need to establish a consistent go to identity, but you also need to be able to adapt and change when it’s not working as well as it could/should be.
There’s a video of the beginning of the season with Fields starting and you can see how upbeat the team was. Fields was running passing scoring touchdowns and threw the ball to everyone. Fields represents everything that Tomlin is against. Creativity and unpredictable offense. Tomlin wants predictable offense and a 4 play rotation. Run run check down pass punt. Same formation to minimize risk but they’re fearless. Fire this man soon as they lose to the ravens don’t even let him back in the building
… after the fans called for Canada’s firing … even during a Penguins game. Of course, he seems to have turned Smith into Canada so it hasn’t really mattered.
Hey quick question that anyone can answer. Where did the Steelers rank league wide in rushing yards through the 6 games that Justin started and added to the running game? Because I'm willing to bet it wasn't in the low 20s. I'm not saying Justin is Lamar, that's a stretch, but he is similar in skill set and what he brings to an offense. I'm gonna keep saying this. Justin adds more overall to this offense than Russ does. Going into the off season the Steelers, and more specifically Tomlin, can't get caught up in Russ' history and make the right decision to let Russ go. Since they can't draft a QB without giving up a ton they need to prioritize Justin.
I think at this point there's lots of different things we can argue about the team and personnel, but does any of it even matter when the big picture will remain the status quo? We couldn't win with Ben, AB, Bell, and the best oline in the league. Justin ain't taking us to the promised land this year. Moving forward, yeah it's probably better to have a younger promising guy. But to answer your specific question I think we would do better in rushing but worse in passing and situational downs. Wilson does things presnap that Fields isn't as good at, and it's just experience level and mental processing.
12/15 series we started with a run. The defense knew what we were doing the whole time plus why don't we change up the game plan if it doesn't work 8 times doing the same thing
Calling out Rooney seems to be our last option. There is a tipping point with many things and I feel that the Steelers coaching situation may have reached theirs.
Tomlin forcing Najee injured into critical parts of games when Jalen is available reminds me so much of Shelty forcing Bednar to close games in 2024 when Chapman was available. Maybe there is something in the Pittsburgh water?😊

It brings joy to my heart that Steelers Nation is waking up to the nightmare.
Remember when the offense could basically score AT-WILL (2010 - 2018) and a smashmouth defense was a luxury (and made the game worth watching)😊
Isn’t “managing risk” the same as “living in your fears”?
Preach DK Preach!
When 22 was hurt they ran CP out instead of Warren. I'm still wondering what that was about
There’s a video of the beginning of the season with Fields starting and you can see how upbeat the team was.
The only one was firing Canada! May not have said he was wrong in hiring him, but he did say he was the one who did the firing.
… after the fans called for Canada’s firing … even during a Penguins game. Of course, he seems to have turned Smith into Canada so it hasn’t really mattered.
ESPN. It's talking about trade Mike Tomlin
There is a no trade clause in his contract, unfortunately. We’re stuck with this idiot.
@@deaj8450sign him to a 2yr deal ,
@@deaj8450 - well said on both points.
Tomlin’s quote you played sure sounds like someone living in their fears, contrary to his now famous but shallow sound bites 🤦🏻♂️
Oh Coach word salad is just full of it. He’s a dope
Fired Mike Tomlin
12/15 series we started with a run. The defense knew what we were doing the whole time plus why don't we change up the game plan if it doesn't work 8 times doing the same thing
U gotta love that Tomlin complains about starting slow when he’s the reason why we start slow
Calling out Rooney seems to be our last option. There is a tipping point with many things and I feel that the Steelers coaching situation may have reached theirs.
I'll believe it when I see it
Tomlin forcing Najee injured into critical parts of games when Jalen is available reminds me so much of Shelty forcing Bednar to close games in 2024 when Chapman was available. Maybe there is something in the Pittsburgh water?😊
Every decision this coach is making is the very definition of living in your fears!
