  • Even though Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny wasn't everything I was personally hoping it would be, I still think James Mangold is an incredibly talented filmmaker. I have been listening to his interviews and going through his previous movies, and they got me thinking about what we might see in his film about the Dawn of the Jedi!

Its crazy how Hollywood works. James had had a great career before Logan, but Logan gave him the cache for studios to believe in him. Im glad he gets a star wars movie, above other directors his vision on screen is perfect for the foe western/ Japanese cinema that is the base of star wars.

I think you had already gotten me with Mangold being the director, but the other part of this all that I think could strike to its success is the concept and plot. While we have seen Jedi a lot before in Star Wars, Jedi are a very popular part of this franchise. At the same time with this movie you are exploring a time that really hasn't been show a lot in Star Wars lore at least from an on screen perspective. I think it could spark way more interest that way. Granted idk exactly what will be inside of this regarding action, or anything like that. Like is this movie going to be a more drama and emotional based film vs a philosophical one that has a small amount of action.

Here's my idea on what I feel like the Dawn of Jedi should be like, taking in considerantion this idea of biblical epic:
We start with a group of Force users, and one specific (the protagonist) telling a little child about their history. We are at the very begining of the time line, so space travel is still very primitive. We learn that humans (and other species) would simply launch giant space ships and put its population in criogenic sleep, hoping that they arrive safely in a location, and that location isnt completely hostile. One of those ships reached that planet of the Force that we saw yoda going to in the clone wars. There, some learned to wield the Force (but probably with another name) they would summon those galactic whales like ezra, so they could travel faster through the space. They would go to worlds and help people by solving conflicts, epidemics, floods, droughts, hunger, etc.
But then the planet our protagonist is in is being attacked. We would learn that a human world (probably coruscant) managed to achieve hyper space in their ships (by killing and making brutal experiments with those space whales). This would lead to a human supremacist group, that starts to attack other species, and even other human worlds, in other to get resources. And the planet that we see being attacked is Jedah (again, probably with a different name). The protagonist manage to escape and save some people, but he discovers a kyber crystal, that when is hit, deflect eletricbbolts back to the attacker (eletric guns are the apex technology at this point, blasters do not exist yet). The Ruler would want to capture the "First Jedi" (he still wouldnt have that title) and would send a assassin after him, a "nightsister assassin". She would be very dangerous, nearly kill him, but he would be victorious in the end, but would spare her life. They would eventually become friends, and in the end, lovers. But he would hear a call in the Force and go to ach to. There he would have a vision about ashla and bogan (light and dark), on how ashla create life, and bogan take it, to then give ashla the energy to recreate life and so the circle of life continues. But bogan would be seduced by a servant into creating/perpetuating life by himself, and taking the place of ashla. Bogan would begin to swallow ashla and its domains, and then the kyber in the hand of the jedi becomes sort of an energy sword, in where he manages to control bogan, bringing back the balance, and killing the servant that corrupted bogan.
This would be the change in our protagonist. He would start to learn martial arts of the "assassin", would make a mask and robes (similar to the jedi temple guards, that is both inspiring and terryfing) and the first lightsaber.
He would return to jedha to challenge the supremacist ruler, and we would be talking about an epic fight. We are talking biblical epic, in the sense of an avenging angel destroying an entire army by himself. But we would understand that he could be far more deadly, but when is possible, he only knocs out the soldiers, allows them to run, to surrender, etc. When he faces the Ruler, his personal guards start to run, and this ruler simply shoots them, but the bolts are frozen in air by the Jedi. The Jedi gives a chance for the ruler to surrender, that too much death had happened. The ruler would pretend to surrender, only to give a treachrous shoot at the Jedi. The Jedi would simply deflect back, and instantly killing the Ruler. The soldiers would fall on their knees and worship the Jedi as some sort of god. Instead, the jedi asks them to bring the injured, civilians and soldiers, and would start to heal them. The new leader of this organization would be elected, and vow to unmake the mistakes of the previous ruler (we would be seeing the begining of the republic). The Jedi would see some following him, some would stay with their own interpretation of the Force (and this would be respectfully accepetd, aswe have to see a message of religious tolerance) and we would see a few years later several jeid building their lightsabers, of various colours, and this would be the dawn of the Jedi.
So if you have read it all what do you think?

    • @guilhermelobato698
      @guilhermelobato698 Рік тому +2

@@loveblanket6512 I think that the Jedi should not be the discovers of the Force, but only one of the many interpretations. Thats why we would see in a flashback people arriving in that Force planet (from the clone Wars) and we would already see people using the Force, but in a more "primitive" way but already trying to help others. That would mean that Jedi, Guardian of the Wills, and so many other light side Force users come from the same place, and should be respected equally.

    Wookiepedia's Information on Ahch-To's History:
The Jedi Order was founded on planet Ahch-To by the Prime Jedi around 25,000 BBY. The Lanais' secret songs recalled long periods in which there were no outside visitors and brief stretches in which a group of outsiders dwelled on Temple Island together. Some of them were kind, and others were mad-songs recalled years of fire and ruin that had forced the Lanais from their homes until things resumed their proper course. Due to its many secrets, the location of Ahch-To had been hidden from the galaxy.
    Sacred Jedi Texts Text:
The Prime is One, but the Jedi are Many. The Sith were Many but often emerge Ruled by Two. The Seeds of the Jedi have been Sown throughout the Galaxy, on Ossus, Jedha, Xenxiar, and Others. The Sith have no Seeds, since what they Bury does not Grow. They are the Despoilers of Worlds and have Laid to Waste once Fertile Habitats such as Korriban (Moroband), Ziost, Ixigul (Exegol), Asog, and Others.
The Je'daii and the Old Republic history are there. It's just has been untouched and modified a bit. Imagine the Tho-Yor rising from Ahch-To's sea before heading out to gather more future Jedi masters and students to rendevous at Tython. Since the Ten Commandments story will influence Dawn of the Jedi, I believe there will be a Prime Jedi exodus to Ahch-To (Mount Sinai) to learn the Force and later a final journey to Tython (The Promised Land). In the Prime Jedi's mural, we can see Ashla and Bogan as well as the balance between the Light Side of the Force and the Dark Side of the Force (Je'daii teachings).

I really enjoyed Dial of Destiny and I think Mangold is a great fit for a Star Wars film but personally I don't really want the Dawn of the Jedi film. I just prefer the mysticism of the Jedi and the mystery surrounding the Force and I fear defining both in the beginning, which this film almost certainly is likely to, will strip away those elements and I really don't want that personally. Mystery is good, it's what keeps the intrigue and I personally think that should be preserved regarding the Force. I prefer that time being vague and open to interpretation for people. I also don't like this idea of "the Prime Jedi" so I don't really want that to be an actual thing either. I would rather they just dive straight into the Old Republic or the founding of the Sith, where things are already established but still different and fresh from the prequels, with a new cast and a new conflict. I'm not writing off the movie at all, I'll still watch it, give it its fair shot and judge it on its own merits but it's just not what I would have wanted the next film after the Skywalker Saga to be so for that, it's just pretty low down on my hype list, even though I think Mangold is more than up to the task of making a Star Wars movie.
I also don't agree with the whole discussion about balance in the Force brought up here and how there's only one way to achieve it. That's a very black and white viewing. I believe it all comes down to what the person's intention is with the Force: is it to protect or to inflict harm on someone? That's the key thing behind use of the Force and the powers themselves, whether they be light or dark, are just the how. If you're acting in rage and anger, that's the dark side but if you're in control and in tune the whole time like a Jedi is, you're fine. It's a slippery slope definitely and difficult to master but that doesn't mean it isn't viable. And full disclosure I would have hated like 90% of what Trevorrow's script for IX would have done, I enjoy his movies well enough and absolutely no hate towards the man himself but I would not have jived with what he had planned. However calling his takes "antithetical" to Star Wars seems like a bit much, I won't lie and a sign of clear bias plain and simple.
I also get the preference for newer or lesser known actors but the whole "No known celebrities in SW" takes just make no sense to me. That's like saying "Star Wars is for everyone... until it's a famous face I recognise". If seeing a well known actor takes you out of the project, especially with some recent castings like Pedro Pascal in The Mandalorian, then that's your problem and not any one or anything else's. Star Wars shouldn't ever have to limit itself to such things

    • @The_blindpizzaguy1300

The whole point of Star Wars originally was that it was kind of supposed to be a black and white thing. That was what George Lucas wanted. Good versus evil, light versus dark. And the thing that I feel like we often forget is that Star Wars is not just for adults. But it is for those kids that are six or seven years old that play with action figures in their backyards. So taking that into account, we can’t dismiss the idea that. There isn’t a prime Jedi, and there isn’t a prime antagonist or sith lord. Also, when we take that into account, the philosophical stuff I feel like could go over a lot of peoples heads if it is not executed properly, which is why the discussion with George Lucas is so important. As adults we are more learned and we know these things but to a six or seven year old child who is just going to go see this film for the first time they have to be able to get it to. And I have heard George Lucas say this in multiple interviews not just one or two The adult stuff is only there so that we will have a motivation to take the kids to the theater to see it

Actually two friends/ brothers who both found the Jedi order (or Je'daii) and then grow apart over different philosophies, one essentially founding a proto-Sith order the other leaving more towards selflessness, sounds amazing. This could also be the story to draw in a mainstream audience.
I think in many ways streaming series have superseded movies as the geek thing: budgets and vfx are on a similar level to movies, you have more time to tell your story and you reach your target audience better. Streaming is essentially to TV/ movies what D2C shops and comic shops were to comics.

Besides the birth of the Jedi Order, and what might hint at the first cracks later on leading to the Sith Empire(s), what i'm looking forward to is how primitive the technology in that time will be compared to the civil war era. 25k years back in time is quite a lot...
I think if there is hyperspace, it's only in it's first steps, and quite unreliable. That far back you'd might even expect generational or sleeper ships. I'm not saying SW should venture too far into hard sci-fi, but space travel tech has a logical evolution, even in that universe. Especially if you're trying to put emphasis on the differences for the audience.

There's a "Dawn of the Jedi" comic series from 2006 where the ancient order is delved into, how they are much more grey than the later republic era jedi, and how they come to first come across something resembling a lightsaber. In those comics they're basically stranded in a single star system, they don't have hyperspece travel, but they do have basically jet fighters and spacecraft that efficiently travel between planets. It would be nice if they did something like that, I loved that little story.

I think that you could use the light side of the force to temper the dark side and thus become incredibly powerful by drawing on both. However, it comes with great risk of falling to the dark side, which is why the Jedi avoids the dark side and restrain their passions.
A story set before (or while) some costly lessons are learned about the nature of the force and the light and the dark could be very interesting.
I.e. believing that you can master both the light and the dark side of the force is dangerously arrogant and will inevitably lead to the downfall of whomever is foolish enough to try.

My issue with your budget comment: I think it’s because maybe you’re less familiar with old republic etc, but the technology of Star Wars always existed on Star Wars. It all came from the rakatan empire that existed long before everything so like while they figure out some new stuff or improve on it, the ships, droids, computers, artificial body parts etc all existed in Star Wars since forever. So idk what you can cut back on to lower the budget without risking not looking like Star Wars / looking like a fan film. Have to carry the same standard throughout even in the far past. Because the entire time of the universe they had all the same tech and everything, droids just had older looking designs or ships less sleek.

Trevorrow’s script for 9, while not perfect, was infinitely better than what we got and explored some really fascinating concepts. While I don’t care for grey Jedi, I still think it made a valiant attempt to explore a concept of balance and really try to close out the saga. If his version is explicitly wrong, what’s right? Isn’t it unfair to completely disregard it because Lucas at one point said something different?

Considering, that the new Indy-movie has so much negative reception (again, ugh!), I'm fearing people will hate this movie too and we'll all be trapped in an endless cycle of bad reception and negative criticism. Or at worst, Disney will try to get rid of Star Wars after receiving one negative box office after the other, considering that this movie also didn't do well with the money.

    • @CouncilCape897
      @CouncilCape897 Рік тому +1

Lucas himself has explained that balance doesn't mean the Light Side and the Dark Side being equal in power. The "Light Side" *is* the Force in its natural state, while the Dark Side is the corruption that upsets the balance. The point is that while we have to accept that darkness is in our nature, we have to reject the quick and easy path it offers through negative emotions towards our selfish desires because it'll lead to a downward spiral of destruction. The "Light Side" is harmony, the Dark Side is a cancer.

When I went to go see guardians of the galaxy three, they actually had a billboard with a poster for dawn of the Jedi so I don’t think it is years and years away as a matter fact, I think it is more likely going to pop up around May or December of next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a trailer around Thanksgiving, like they did with the force awakens. The Scripps have already been written in the story has been created. It looks like. I feel like they’re probably just working on script rewrites now, but the writer strike is slowing everything down. Also. Not to mention, Lucasfilm actually chewed out a couple of employees for announcing films that were in the works before they were ready to be announced. But I’m sure that they had to have approval in order to announce the film otherwise they would not have announced it so quickly at Star Wars celebration. And since James main gold was the guy who actually announced it with the approval of Lucasfilm, by that point, they would’ve already had to of had a solid script and story.

Raiders had a budget of $20 million and even when adjusted for inflation, that would only be around $66 million today. I get there's significantly more CGI (de-aging Ford had to be expensive) and that they can't do nearly as much practically anymore, but why in the world do they need so much more money these days to pull off movies in the same genre?

I was admittedly worried about the film when it said it would cover the origins of the Force precisely because of Trevorrow’s script and it’s good to know I’m not the only one. It ruined a script that otherwise had a number of cool concepts and a quite frankly a better movie name.
I think the best way I’ve heard someone describe balance in Force is not the Light and Dark sides being equal in strength but as STABILITY. Because we can see in real life how giving power to fear, hate, anger, and greed leads to political, social, environmental, and economic instability, making the world more dangerous and just a worst place to live overall.

It's against the hyper dogmatism of the Prequel Era Jedi and is anti-apathy.
