Mitaka? Who knew?..Well you do! I was only there briefly to see the Ghibli museum...I should have stayed for some ramen! Next time....mmmm! Great report!
I was born in Kichijoji, next stop from Mitaka. Grew up in the U.S. Would love to see you do a video of ramen shops in Kichijoji. Tsukemen Enji by the station was pretty amazing when I was there some years back. Keep up the good work!
Kichijoji has some great ramen shops! You were born in the right down 😊. A Kichijoji ramen video is on my long to do list. Thanks for watching and will keep it up!!
Wow, a fantastic range of ramen available in the Mitaka stretch of West Tokyo! Amazing 😁 My favourite would be the shio from Tori Koku Suzuki - Salty, rich with chicken and additional mackerel notes, white soy sauce - It sounds so delicious!
In West Tokyo, they don't mess around! I'm going to do a Kokubunji (further West) video in the future too. Tori Koku Suzuki does a mean bowl! Super affordable too - that's another reason why they have a line out the door.
Sounds good - added to my long list of video ideas! I wanna do a big one with regional styles I haven't yet had too (Wakayama, Asahikawa for example). So please standby as I compile 😊
Absolutely our favorite "Roving Ramen Reporter". That "junk yard" bowl looked very intriguing. Not your basic bowl at all. All the bowls looked great though!
That has a nice ring to it 😊, "Roving Ramen Reporter". That junkyard one is special - an oxy moron of sorts, a well thought out mess. But they're all great for sure!
I'm all in on the last Ramen. Im a tantan freak so I'm pretty sure I would love a sesame and chili oil Ramen. But seriously they all look delicious I'm definitely going to try the clam next time I come back to Japan
Haha, yes, you are the king of tantanmen! It's lighter on the sesame to let fish shine but there's just enough spiciness. That clam ramen is really special, one of the best in the category.
I've been to Sakurai and it is so clean and refined. I live near Mitaka and aim to visit all the others over the next few weeks. From a fellow 'half', cheers!
That's aweome! Sakurai serves such a great bowl. Let me know if Sakurai is still your favorite from the bunch (after the others). Cheers, fellow half 😊
6:38 But , Frank - you are a ramen reporter, bringing the good news to the masses! Also, I never thought I'd ever hear the term 'ramen junkyard'. I feel like I could just point to a board with all of these while blind, land on one, and be happy. That Stamina bowl, though, looks like a hearty challenge. That'd be fun to try.
Your dedicated ramen reporter 😊. Haha, never thought I'd use the phase "ramen junkyard" either. None of the bowls will disappoint, but that stamina bowl is def uniquely special!
Awesome suggestions! Mitaka is such a nice area to visit and explore if you're in Tokyo, I'll be adding Ramen Sukoyaka/Menya Sakura for my next trip that got pushed back till post pandemic.
First of all, how come this channel isnt getting the views it should be getting? You’re so underrated man, i’ve been looking for a channel like this for a long time, the editing, the details, its amazing.. keep up the good job, one day im sure you’ll get pretty up there with the famous guys .. and i just added Mitaka city to my places list next time im coming to tokyo, i really look for places like these, less tourists, great Ramen shops .. ;)
Thanks so much for saying that - it's comments like these that put a big smile on my face and keep me going! I'll keep the ramen content coming. And yes, Mitaka is a fantastic area of Tokyo, with a laid back, local vibe.
My favorute foods are french fries, bisket and gravy dish and ramen so one of these days ima combine bisket and gravy sauce broth with ramen sorta like a creamy chicken ramen with suuper fried fries sticking out the sides of the bowl like seaweed does...ill probrobly wrap the fries with seaweed and use eggs or water to make them stick to the fries
I'm all for the heavy/put you in a food coma ramens, so the Jiro style would be my top pick, just to try it out. I would want to eat at all of the locations you recommended though. Beautiful selection.
That last Jiro style bowl is like back to back food comas...followed by another one 😅. Great bowl. Mitaka does have a beautiful selection - great variety too, which you don't always get (my Hachioji City ramen video features mostly the local Hachioji style).
The stamina ramen manten suzuki bowl looks absolutely amazing! THAT's the kind of ramen I want to eat when I finally get to come back to Tokyo! ALL the toppings! An indulgent hot mess, and I'm SO here for it!
Ooo, I haven't really! I'm sure it would be a mish mash, maybe incorporating a lot of random things similar to the last bowl...or be a chicken leaning bowl. Yourself?
Mmmm chashu wantanmen looks suuuuper yummy. The staman soba looks like they put everything in the bowl, but the kitchen sink! Do you ever review ramen inside the restaurant or do most places not allow you to record?
The chashu wantanmen is awesome...and the most affordable! In some videos I've done the reviews inside the ramen shops, like this one: ua-cam.com/video/vM2WAHMzq94/v-deo.html * This is usually when I have a relationship with the ramen shop and go behind the scenes. On days like in the video, it's pretty tight as it is to get the footage and to visit multiple ones 😃
Thanks for finding me and for watching!! In this video, I featured a vegan bowl at the end: ua-cam.com/video/S4fPg8x2cX8/v-deo.html Feel free to have a watch 😃. In the future, I'll do a multiple vegan ramen shop visit!
"I feel like a ramen reporter." Um, yeah, that's kinda what you are. 😄 I wish we had known about these places when we visited the Ghibli museum 2 years ago.
Is there any chicken ramens that use dill to flavour the broth? It’s a staple herb for Polish chicken soups. Curious to see if Russian cuisine flavours creeped in anywhere.
No dill is normally used in chicken ramen here but it would be interesting to see - a Polish ramen! I had ramen when in Warsaw but they're sticking more to Japanese recipes: 5amramen.com/ramen/arigator-warsaw-ramen
That last ramen spot is a place id go every night if i had the cash becouse i like to drink and thats my best type of noodles when so fatty salty and full of protien my friends
They might not show up in English - I'm going to write up a blog post with the map links and will put that in the description. Will do this in the next few days!
Garlic ramen looked like Chinese style with dark broth, thick noodles and toppings. I didn't see the 3 quail eggs, were they on the side? All this ramen in one day is impressive. We're not worthy!! :P
True - it does remind of some Chinese style noodles dishes...sometimes these ramen make sure they go back to their roots! The quail eggs were at very top. It's like Where's Waldo, with there so much going on 😊. Thanks for watching - crammed in a lot of ramen into this one!
Here im telling you that you have to show when you are eating the ramen till finish. Thats gonna work for adding the viewer. For now your video little bit boring
Some ramen shops I have relationship with I'll film and review inside (when they're closed) - feel free to check out those videos. But it's otherwise hard to film in Japan ramen shops...because Japanese etiquette dictates that you eat and leave in 10 min (you might have noticed the crowds). That's just how it is here.
Went through a ton of bowls in #Mitaka! Which one's your favorite?
Stamina ramen with sesame & chili oil but I wanna try a vintage ramen of a classic chukasoba
The last one, tied with the second one with me, I like thinner noodles best 😃
@@ElbertTreble Great choices - both are light but so full of flavor, you could perhaps do them back to back 😃
@@stacyneuman8619 Two awesome bowls that are deliciously different!
I think I'd love to try to stamina ramen. I love garlic and I'd probably be unable to move but it sounds worth it!
Mitaka? Who knew?..Well you do! I was only there briefly to see the Ghibli museum...I should have stayed for some ramen! Next time....mmmm! Great report!

Mitaka and the surrounding area is definitely one of the hot spots for ramen in Tokyo. Great video!
Thanks! You know it - Mitaka is on fire, ramen-wise. Probably gonna showcase Kokubunji next.
Definitely bookmarking the clam soup ramen.
Amazing bowl! One of the best for clam ramen in Tokyo 👍
NOSFERATU ramen master Frank....the one with the chicken and chasu looked great....and the heavier ramen stole my heart....or stomach....lol
Lol, the ramen vampire. Stole both your heart and stomach 😁
I would love to go to Menya Sakurai. That charsui looks perfectly cooked. My second spot would be Stamina Ramen Manten Suzuki.
Both excellent choices! Nice contrast with those two bowls as well.
How am I just discovering this channel?!?!? Seen you on TabiEats, going to have to watch all your videos now...
Glad you found the channel - it's relatively new 😊. Would love to do another collab with TabiEats in the near future. Haha, please binge away here.

I really like your video presentation ❤️❤️ and the way u talk your accent 👍

Haven't really considered this sort of video up to now but maybe can tie that to ramen eating somehow - need to find some ramen baby footage 😅
