brother u have great knowledge i want to share my statement to find first second and third and so on.......... in salaries or marks tables or anything else you want to seach statement:- select * from table_name order by column_name desc limit 1; we will find the higest value of the table with all details (limit 1 shows that we want to see the top of the row in a table) same like for second highest select * from table_name order by column_name desc limit 1,1: we will get the second highest value (limit 1,1 shows we want to see the second row except first row) for third higesh value select * from table_name order by column_name desc limit 2,1: we will get the third value (limit 2,1 show we want to see third row expect first two rows.....in this way you can see your desired row)

we will get the second highest value
(limit 1,1 shows we want to see the second row except first row)
for third higesh value
